Halo 5 Beta

The Halo 5 beta was superb. It had fulfilled what most gamers wanted in the halo game and did not let me down at all. This is coming from someone who has been playing the halo games since Halo CE on the computer and even has played Bungies Marathon games.
It has come to the point where Halo needs the aim down iron sights and better weapon coordination. You can call it “call of duty” all you want but I personally am glad that 343I has made some major changes. I feel like the game is much more fluid and life like instead of playing like Arnold Schwarzenegger from terminator (it was fun in the past but now we need something different) .
If I could put my two cents in all I would say is make a section for gametypes with loadouts and another section without loadouts (because I personally think loadouts are atrocious). It would be neat if 343i did one more beta session before the big release and tweaked a few things like making the sights on the guns not being so neon bright and to replace a teammate if someone decides to quit a game.

The ability to rreplace quitters would be nice for those playing, but would suck for those joining. I would rather institute a handicap system or a point reward for losing a teammate. ADS and sprint are AOK in my book.

Thank you 343 for giving us the chance to play in your Halo 5 Guardians Beta. I have never been on a forum before but hope this finds you well. I have urged myself to come here and stress to you how important this game will be to me, the fans and the new players who pick it up this year. I did enjoy the beta. It has many positives and negatives to the multiplayer. First of all I would like you to know that I am a massive fan of this game. I have been playing since I was ten years old when it first came out on the original Xbox. I have a lot of experience with the halo games as I have played them all and raked up a hefty Gamerscore with it. I feel that Halo is my religion. I have read the books and followed the lore of Halo as thoroughly as I could whilst holding onto normality and yes I have a job. I’m not that kind of hard core fan with tats of Cortana blowing me kisses on my left chest… Anyways what I’m trying to say is I am not some punter just spraffing gibberish here. I am here to help and hopefully assist you in making one of the coolest Halo games ever. So I’ll start with the positives. Loved the maps, graphics (even in their early stages), aiming down the sights is good and familiar to us gamers. But the choice to not aim is also crucial to keeping the ‘Feel of Halo.’ Sounds are beefy and brutal. Love the new power abilities - Iron Man ground punch! Shoulder barge! Thruster and mantling ledges are awesome and useful. Slide is probably the most under used ability. But maybe I just need more time with it. I am happy that these were given across everyone so no unfairness. The medals that I came across were sick. Loved the ‘Perfect’ medal. It sounded sooooo satisfying. The shield not recharging is a clever idea to stop the runners but really makes it a challenge to get a proper frenzy or anything higher. Generally if I were to be raking up the kills the agro would get stronger and more enemies would begin to hunt me down. I always felt proud of myself in learning the maps and being a bit of a free running ninja to escape/out wit my opponents. Allowing me to survive another day and continue the fight whilst keeping my spree. So I am on the bench with this one. Don’t make it too hard to get streaks of kills as that is what a lot of us play for. Hearing the spree medals stack during a BTB was always what I aimed for. Other areas I was unsure of were: The intro clip of the map is cool but a group of SPARTANS waltzing catwalk like towards the cam was far to Destinyish for me to handle. Weapons felt beefy almost too powerful in some areas. But I’m sure you’re tweaking these. Weapons need to have a certain hierarchy. Otherwise no one will go for the power weapons or actually try to use some skill. As I witnessed often people just spam killed with the boring AR. Also from what I witness in the Master Chief collection is when voting for a map/playlist the BR playlist wins hands down 99% of the time. Rendering the AR playlists when chosen a big fight just to get a long range weapon to stand a chance of survival. Let’s move on to Kill cams and respawn cams. You gave us both with little time to comprehend what was going on. Kill cams were the only way I could learn how to get better during COD as they never really had theatre. This was the opposite for Halo. Theatre and respawn cams were how I learned what went right/wrong in a match. With most kill cams there is an option to skip it like there was for the H5 beta and COD. After a while I find myself mashing the skip button just to get back in the action. This was because I could not learn anything from the milliseconds we got on the kill cam. If I got stuck or sniped all I’d see was the death. A couple of seconds earlier and I would of understood what lead me to my demise and therefore be able to learn from it and avoid it from happening again. Then I would get seconds to quickly scroll through the players on my team to give shout outs but end up being spawned back in in a rush. I’d end up missing my opportunity to assist the team from my death. This was the only thing we could gleam from a death. If we don’t have this then we sit there mashing the skip button in frustration just so we can get back in and help again. Either do away with both or give us one or the other with a bit better perspective/time. Finally the major gripes. I shall highlight in bold to emphasise how ‘unhalo’ it made it.
The AI call outs might grow on me but it pulls away the chance for us to do the work. Being able to communicate is what makes a good team a great team. Don’t let us get lazy and rely on others hearing them as they my be listening to epic gaming music in the background. If you choose to keep them anyway please please please don’t make them sound so generic and cheesy like some of the lame voices in Spartan Ops. Think of some of the reasons we love SPARTANS like Chief. Voiceless faceless emotionless ruthless killing machines. Not your average Stormtrooper. Draw from some of the gritty voices in Reach. I know in Halo 4 you are letting marines be Spartans. But they have got to sound tough and experienced. Death Music! Why. This is sooo irritating upon death to hear this broken record over and over. We die a lot. Hearing this was demoralising and unnecessary. SPARTANS DON’T High 5! Upon winning or loosing we get another very cheesy clip of our team celebrating with fist bumps and high fives. We are not at a Basketball game. We just slaughtered the enemy or got slaughtered. No Spartan would ever show this kind of affection/team spirit on the battlefield. It’s just silly. Lastly and most importantly. Long waits in lobbies & Quitters don’t Get replaced. I feel like we are still in the stone age of matchmaking. I hate to say that if Halo is too long or people quit too often. I will stop playing. Possibly do something even worse. Put COD in and smash out game after game after game with the worst KD ever. I’m terrible a COD. I get put in teams of random ranks. But I don’t care. I get to play the game over and over. Ask yourself truthfully. Have you ever played Halo and had a fairly matched game. No. You haven’t. So do away with tight matchmaking or whatever it is that is holding us back. I want to play. And I want to play quickly and consecutively because It’s ‘my game!’
I hope I’m singing off of the same hymn sheet as others. Either way I love your work and will be buying it regardless. How much I play it and encourage others to pick up a copy will depend on what was discussed above. I still believe you can uphold this Mantle of responsibility with the HALO franchise. Good Luck. And Thanks again.

Regards

Chiefs Luck
