Halo 5 Beta Week 1 Feedback

Hello everyone at Halo waypoint and 343! I’m gonna share my week 1 feedback of the halo 5 beta from everything to gameplay to the maps, playlist and ranking system. Well lets get started, it might be a long read but i will add a tl;dr at the end.

  • Gameplay When i first jumped in playing Halo 5 beta i was impressed the gameplay felt smooth, energetic and faster than any other halo game i played before. My first few matches i played were fun, getting to learn the controls was little annoying cause i was trying to ground pound and i didnt know that if it lights up red you can’t execute the move. But after you get the feel of it you’re gonna have a blast playing it. The spartan abilities such as thruster, ground pund and shoulder charge are probably the best features in this game, it really changes the gameplay. I remember one time there was 3 people trying to kill me and i kept thrustering to avoid damage, I manage to kill 2 but the other one got me. Shoulder charge is a good move to finish off an opponent if they are running away from you, feels like your hitsticking somebody in madden lol, but it could be a little improve maybe a shoulder charge assassination? The ground pound is useful in certain situations, such as getting a drop on your opponent, navigate through the map quicker or getting away from damage. But there is some difficulties using it, sometimes when the circle goes to white and you trying to execute it, your spartan would just cancel the move. Sprinting is cool nothing really wrong with it, adding the ability where your shield doesnt recharge when sprinting is actually good. But overall the gameplay of halo 5 is good probably on the best halos yet!

tl;dr:
Gameplay: Good
Thrustering: Amazing feature
Shoulder Charge: Useful but could be improved
Ground Pound: Useful but could be improved
Sprinting: Good

  1. Weapons

The weapons in Halo 5 are somewhat balanced and unbalanced. When using the AR it feels great from shooting it all the way to hearing the sound of it, the ADS for it is pretty cool its useful when you trying to be accurate. The problem with the AR it’s WAY too powerful, the AR used in previous halos were for just taking down the shield and finishing them off with a beat down or switching to a BR to finish them off, not kill them all the way. I mean its cool to kill someone all the way with the AR but it shouldn’t take half the mag to kill someone maybe the whole mag or 75%. Onto another weapon that is kind of OP is the magnum, the gun feels great shooting it and hearing it but really its a sidearm DMR with less range. With the Magum if you’re really accurate with it you can easily kill people will headshots just by firing the weapon 5 times into someone’s cranium, I never thought of using the magnum to kill someone. It would be great to make at least 6 shots to kill someone instead of 5 or just lower the damage in general.

Currently i have nothing to say about the BR or the DMR cause its the same from the past halo games, 4 headshots and your dead except that the AR is stronger than them. The Grenade is a mini-nuke, 343 have we not learn something from the Halo Reach Beta? The grenade blast radius is too large and the damage from them is really powerful its bad enough that we don’t have a grenade indicator. It would be great to tone them down in the final game and a grenade indicator cause literally they’re so small you can’t see them or hear them. Lightrifle is still the same from Halo 4 its still a useful weapon especially when you aim down the sights. The Hydra rocket launcher. When i first picked this bad boy up it was terrible, couldn’t lock on, inaccurate i just decided never to use this weapon again, until one of my friends told me how to use it. Apparently when you aim down the sights the tracker comes on and this is where the mini rocket comes to play, just shooting 2 shots will kill your opponent! Another great feature if you get descope out of it the tracker stay on which is great. Moving onto the final 2 weapons or should i say one weapon is the Energy/Bane/Sword, this Halo you guys really turned down the lounge incredibly so you can’t lounge 10 ft away no more it actually takes skill to kill them. Aiming down with the sword increases its lounge by a good distance like in previous Halos but the disadvantage is your radar goes away and you can’t sprint out of ADS you’re locked in regardless if you’re getting shot at. The sword is a little too bright as well when using it you can barely see whats in front of you. Honestly overall with the weapons most of them needs to get tweaked, the feel and sound of them is good but most of them are OP.

tl;dr
Weapons: Alright
AR: Needs to get nerfed
Magnum: Nerf
BR & DMR: Good
Lightrifle: Good
Sniper Rifle: Add more recoil too easy to snipe people
Hydra: Alright needs a tutorial on using it
Swords: Fix ADS locked and Brightness on screen.
SMG: NEEDS A BIG TIME NERF( I forgot to mention it )

  1. Maps

The Maps in Halo 5 beta are pretty cool, from the environment, the design layout, navigating to interacting with objects for cover. Only thing about the maps in Halo 5, 343 Empire and Regret are literally the same maps! You guys couldn’t be this lazy adding a nighttime mode and more assets not gonna cut it. Truth and Eden basically ALMOST the same except Eden is more compact. I have yet play on trenches, but Crossfire is a cool design having to start off by jumping off those launchers is pretty neat. Overall the maps are good but 343 dont repeat the same design please.

tl;dr
Maps: Good
Dont repeat the same design layout

  1. Playlist

The playlist or should i say game modes on Halo 5 pretty good, especially breakout it really takes communication, teamwork and tactical thinking to win games on it. Team Slayer is still team slayer nothing much to comment on that except maybe adding another person to the list.

  1. Ranking system

The ranking system on Halo 5 is alright it could be improved, trying to get to onyx rank is by far the hardest thing for me. So everytime your team lose your performance goes down by ALOT it doesn’t matter how well you did but if your team loses your perforamance goes down tremendously. When you win your performance goes up by what +10 most of time which i dont understand. I would literally try to carry the team on my back going 1.7 K/D but if we end up losing my performance goes down? But overall the ranking system could be improved.

Well I hope you guys enjoyed reading my Week 1 feedback about Halo 5, overall this GAME is a blast to play! But still a lot of things to patch such as weapons to balance the game out! I’m out till Week 2 343 im looking forward to the new maps and game modes coming up next week! You guys definitely have my pre-order keep up the good work! And remember no more copy and pasting map designs please and thank you lol!

PS i left out some things such as grenade indicator, SMG is OP and clamber will be sure to add that another time! Hope you enjoyed reading!

Thank you on providing your honest formal feedback. It is much more useful to the community and the developers rather than those that just ramble.

Oh man no problem! I really like to go in detail when i beta test games so the developers can get as much accurate info as they can to improve the final game. I left some stuff though oh well.

You cant forget that the grenades launch players in random directions even tho that maybe be considered a glitch more than anything

  1. Gameplay

I totally follow you in the controller aspect. It seams that it could be improved but I admit I have gotten used to it after playing for a while. Some of he other aspects that I loved so far are the new medals like last shot. I have also found that when using ground pound, I am not always sure if I killed the target our not, and the medal takes a bit to pop up especially if your in a middle of a firefight. It would be cool and helpful to hear the announcer call out ground pound, similar to when they call out killing spree or assassination.

You must remember, the point of the spartan abilities of shoulder charge and ground pound are situational moves. The big idea behind them are high risk vs. high reward. I do think the recovery after the shoulder charge could be shortened a little bit. My reasoning be hind that is it is to easy to miss your target and your left staggering in the open while the guy you charged at walks around you and beats you down.

  1. Weapons

The weapons are not as far unbalanced as you may think. The SMG will definitely need to be nerfed or at leat the range and accuracy need a nerf. The AR could use a nerf, but the ability to mach someone using a DMR or BR still needs to be present. Many game types will not be BR load outs and with so few on the maps, you have to keep the possibility of being able to go toe to toe in an AR vs BR battle. The Sniper I agree completely with it feels that you can fire it with the same speed and recoil of a DMR, just with a whole lot more damage per shot. It also feels like the speed at witch you zoom with the sniper is too quick. The sniper is the king of all precision weapons you need to have every shot count when your shooting across the map. Last weapon I really like surprisingly enough was the magnum. In the past it wasn’t though thought of as a significant weapon. The range on the pistol could be nerfed but I like the idea that it is more effective at at least being a weapon you might use. I’ve burned though SMG mags quickly and when in a bind, instead of reloading, I will take out the pistol to finish off a target.

  1. Playlists

I understand that Halo 5 is trying to go more arena like, but I would love to see objective game types make a come back. So far in the Halo MCC there are no objective playlists and 85% of the time when in a playlist the party will choose a slayer game type (at least in my experience).
