Halo MCC is sure to sell millions. Halo 5 beta comes out a month later. If we really want Halo 5 to be similar to Halo 1/2/3, should we just boycott the beta?
343 will be paying lots of attention to our reactions to the beta, but if theirs sprint, if spartan abilities turn out to be disliked, etc, what if the population just dropped on the Halo 5 beta after a few days, and millions of players are still playing Halo MCC, 2A to be specific. I think that would say alot.
Millions of players will surely be playing the beta, but after a week or so if the population goes back to MCC, 343 will have almost no choice but to listen to the fans.
No. The beta should not be boycotted because it will be the main source of data used to develop Halo 5 multiplayer. If we were to boycott the beta potential game breaking bugs or features may go unnoticed and ruin the game. I understand that you want to try to show 343 exactly what you want, but in the end playing Halo 2 over the beta could have disastrous effects on Halo 5 because they won’t be generating any data or feedback on the game.
Just had that idea in my head, wasn’t sure if it was stupid or genius lol. The beta will be out for a month, after a couple weeks though im sure they’ll consider y IF the population drops significantly though.

I agree with Swag. The more feedback generated, the better. Boycotting would be a bad idea, but I understand where you’re coming from.
Halo 5 is supposed to be a different game than all the previous Halo games. Just because we like the older games better than the newer ones, doesn’t mean anything to 343i. They have said this before when Frankie was interviewed. He said, “We already know the communities thoughts on the previous Halo titles. We are only going to use the Beta as feedback for Halo 5.” This means, that if we go back to just playing MCC after a week, it won’t really matter. They are trying to put new things into the Halo franchise otherwise the game will stagnate and no one will buy anything other than a campaign.
People are always going to hate on the new things, but we shouldn’t boycott something until we realize we know for a fact that it’s not good. People hated Halo 2 when it came out because it was very different from H:CE, but was it a terrible game? No. People get mad when things change because humans are creatures of habit and despise change. There are going to be lot of people who dislike H5. It’s guaranteed. That is why the MCC collection exists. To give players what they want. Halo 5 will be the game 343 intends it to be, but only player feedback will make it better. Not abandoning ship. Then the kids who just like new flare will be in charge of deciding the direction in which the game goes.
How would boycotting the thing that 343i will use to make sure Halo 5 is stable, balanced, and fun going to make Halo 5 more stable, balanced, and fun?
That’s the whole purpose of the beta, to make sure it is solid at launch. Get things balanced and make sure new additions or changes work well. If not, they change it and improve it.
If you boycott the beta… you cut out any chance of them discovering how Halo 5 plays among the fans, and it ships without us having any say. Boycotting the beta is probably the worst thing you can do to make them do things differently. You kind of have to play the game first… don’t you think?
The OP has a point though. Betas really do nothing more than test stability. They aren’t to see if someone likes certain gameplay mechanics. What the community really needs is a Halo 5 Alpha.

When a beta is this early it is to do more then stress test.

As early as it is coming out it may as well be an alpha. This beta is going to do more than stress test, it will allow for the finding and fixing of bugs, allow for input on the balance of the game, and provide other important points of data for 343 to analyze and interpret. Playing the game and boycotting after one week will not help Halo 5 get better. You can stop playing if you think that will help, but 343 is not going to take Halo 5 and turn it into Halo 2 just because you stopped playing it. The only thing that will happen if you stop playing the beta is Halo 5 will not release to it’s full potential.
> The OP has a point though. Betas really do nothing more than test stability. They aren’t to see if someone likes certain gameplay mechanics. What the community really needs is a Halo 5 Alpha.
When they release a month or two before launch, that’s true.
However, a year before launch? 343i is doing this so they can get meaningful feedback and have enough time to use it meaningfully.
They’ve already confirmed that they’ll really be looking at the beta, especially how people play it.
Nope. You should play the living crap out of it in order to gain a very good understanding of the gameplay, and then give meaningful feedback as to what should be changed.

Not sure who these people were that hated H2 when it came out…
Plot Twist: Halo 2A is actually the Beta

Let’s see, they were Robert, Billy, Maria, Elizabeth, and Steve. Those five people.
There’re always going to be people who are dissatisfied with the next installment because, in their minds, it’s never as good as the previous one. It’s a trend that happens to this day. Although, there may be some more justification for it now. But yes, there were loads of people who disliked Halo 3 when it came out for ruining Halo’s game play mechanics, added equipment, etc. It’s a pattern. Same with Halo 2 (although to a much lesser extent.)
By boycotting the beta, you’d essentially be giving 343i absolutely ZERO information on how to improve their product prior to full release in Fall of 2015.
In simpler terms, you’d be making the game worse.
> Not sure who these people were that hated H2 when it came out…
You don’t remember “Halo2sucks.com”?
Being different and game-breaking are different things. If the beta is full of new things that actually work really well with Halo, then I think we’ll all be happy. If it’s full of things that do not work with Halo and hurt the game in the long run (like, you know, a button that let’s you speed up for a few seconds while sacrificing the ability to fight…cough), then we have an issue.
But if the latter is true, what good will a boycott do? If nobody plays the beta how do you expect 343i to do any fixing on elements of the game that don’t work?
Even if the beta’s terrible I’ll still play it a -Yoink- load just to see exactly what they did wrong.
The beta is used to allow players to test the game and grant feedback to 343 on what they should and shouldn’t do. We need a beta so disliked things and liked things will be noted to 343 themselves.
Boycotting something you don’t know anything about seems pretty silly to me. Furthermore, boycotting something expressly intended to help you, the consumer, is just plain dumb.
