Hi there!
I thought I’d make a feedback thread of my own. And I did, obviously.
Anyways, I’ll get on topic.
Weapons:
- AR - I’m really on the fence with this one. I don’t want the AR to be as weak as the Halo 3 version again since I couldn’t stand the AR gametypes. I want it to be “worth using”. However, I feel like it’s a bit too powerful at range. I don’t think it really needs a damage reduction. But it should be less accurate at mid-long range because that’s BR/DMR/Light rifle territory.- BR - It’s perfect imo. It’s not as easy as the Halo 4 version and the firing rate and damage go together perfectly with the game tempo.- DMR - I think DMR is fine too. It beats BR at long range as it should, but doesn’t really compete with the AR at close range nor BR at mid range.- Pistol - At first I thought the pistol is useless. But after a while I’ve gotten used to it and it’s a great backup weapon. I don’t think it needs any tweaking.- SMG - I feared this weapon would be too powerful, but after playing a few games I’m actually happy with it. It’s a pickup weapon, so it should be powerful. Otherwise it wouldn’t be worth picking up. It doesn’t compete with the mid range weapons in their territory but is certainly more powerful than the AR at close range(though AR’s effective range is longer)- Light rifle - Haven’t used this weapon much, but so far I haven’t encountered issues with it.- Sniper rifle - Another weapon I’m not too sure about. It feels slow and clunky, but I suppose that’s a matter of getting used to. I guess the purpose of its relatively slow firing rate compared to the game’s tempo is put more emphasis on skillful aiming because you usually get one chance to hit your enemy in the head before they can get out of harm’s way. Still, I am yet to decide whether I like it or not.- Hydra - I think the weapon is fine. With the thruster pack, you can avoid most of the homing rockets coming at you with good timing. But thankfully you can’t spam the thruster pack. In the right hands, this weapon is dangerous. But I can’t say it’s over-powered.- Frag grenades - Imo, the blast radius is too large. Even with the thruster pack, you can’t dodge a grenade that’s not even at your feet. And because everyone starts with 2 frags, pushing power weapons and tactical positions is very easy.- Plasma grenades - Can’t say much. Except that they’re fine as they are.- Energy sword/Prophet’s bane - Both are fine. My only complaint is that Prophet’s bane looks like an onion
Maps:
I think overall, the maps have been good. Although, I must say that on Truth and Regret there’s relatively little variation in color. The locations should be easily identifiable to be able to react to call outs instantly. Truth is easy to remeber to any “veteran” player who has played a lot on Midship in Halo 2 or Heretic in Halo 3, but it is kinda weird that the pink tower doesn’t have any more pink on it than the Carbine tower(or “big tower” in the beta).
Gametypes:
-
Slayer - Well… It’s slayer. Everyone knows Slayer.- Breakout - I was really excited to get my hands on this gametype. Sadly, I must say I was deeply disappointed when that moment came. It feels like SnD in COD, only without the bomb. Of course, whether it’s a good gametype or not is a matter of personal preference. Personally, I don’t like it one bit. However, I’d like to test how the gametype would play out with normal shields and maybe with BR starts as well.General stuff:
-
Controls - After getting used to the controls, I’ve really enjoyed the game. They’re very fluid and allow some interesting gameplay.- Assassination animation - I think assassination animation should be removed. What performing an assassination really does is put you into a disadvantageous situation. With the fast game tempo, you’re sacrificing precious time and actually putting yourself into danger while performing an assassination and some of my friends have complained how they accidentally performed such move and got killed for it. I’ve performed an accidental assassination move a couple of times too but have been lucky enough not to get killed. Shooting someone in the back is a smarter option than trying to back smack them, especially when you have the chance to flank several opponents at a time.- Kill feed - It’s a minor complaint, I know, but I think the kill feed should be a bit more visible(maybe a brighter text?).- Spectating gameplay - Trying to spectate a friend’s gameplay is usually pretty laggy. It also often causes my game to crash. So far I’ve really enjoyed the beta(good job 343!). However, as I stated above, I feel some tweaks are still necessary.
I may update this thread as the beta continues.
