Please only discuss if you played the beta, and can actually form an opinion on how the guns feel.
I, personally, preferred the loadouts in the beta, to some extent. I agree that Halo 5 needs a utility weapon, and this weapon in the beta was the AR. It had high bloom and recoil in hip fire, to make it effective at close quarters. But it also had NO Bloom on SmartScope, along with increased recoil. Meaning that you could duel a BR with high control of the kick and precision of aiming. It felt like a rifle. It was effective out to medium range. It also had shielded headshot bonuses.
The magnum was also awesome. Similar to the assualt rifle, it had bloom when shot quickly, and high recoil in SS, BUT it had an insane fire rate and a perfect kill time of less than a second! (.9333 or something vs current 1.2 s, too lazy to find source atm)
The smart scope was a little too nerfed on it, but other than that it was great.
Both weapons could be used effectively in close range, and with patience, in mid range as well. So really, a player had a legitimate preference over which one to use, unlike now where the magnum is objectively better except in close quarters (talking storm rifle or 2-shot shotgun range here)
Neither were long range suitable, so maybe that’s why they failed the test of ‘utility’ weapons. But, this could have been fixed by extending the Magnum’s SS zoom, but leaving the high recoil. Basically, encouraging pacing and longer ranges, and spamming at close ranges.
HOWEVER, i only played it for 3 weeks, in a limited map set and rotation. I love the magnum now, but I also have a great trigger finger and love autos as well. The AR was just a tad too effective, so I think reducing it’s fire rate by 5% would have been perfect. So those are my thoughts on how they should have balanced the loadout guns from the Beta,
inb4 you say noob, yes my favorite weapon is the STORM RIFLE. I am one of the best with it…check halo 4 stats (top 2 in the world…at least back in the day) But that doesn’t mean I can’t use precisions. I have 1737 kills with precisions, with a 77% headshot rate and nearly 10% perfect kill rate…(yes I’m a nerd and did that math just now). Also reached Diamond 3 in slayer.
I think 343i will go back this direction in H6…what are everyone’s thoughts?
