Halo 5 Armor Customization: Thoughts and Opinions

So I was browsing the forums here during class and saw a post about the Deadeye helmet and it for some reason got me thinking. I’m sure this is being or has been discussed somewhere else on here, but I was wondering what everyone thought about Halo 5’s armor customization. From what I’ve been able to learn, not counting color, we will only be able to customize our body, head, and visor… that’s a bit disappointing in my opinion. I’ll go a bit more in-depth about what I would want the customization to be, but I’m in class right now, so for now, what do you guys think? Are you okay with it? Disappointed? What did you wish the customization would be like? Also what armor do you want to appear in the game? I personally am hoping for the Halo Wars armor, or an armor similar in design to the Mark IV.

Honestly I would have been fine with just Helmet, Visor, Body and Shoulders. Personally I thought 4 had just the perfect amount of customization and I thought Reach had way to much.

Dude there’s never enough customization it’s what makes your Spartan your Spartan. I’m hoping to see some reach helmets making there return like the commando

Being the lore nerd I am, I only wore full matching suits in past Halos, so this doesn’t bother me in the slightest. And it allows for more complex armour designs. For example, look at Locke’s armour. There are no visible joins or breaks in the armour that could suggest modularity.

I love armor customisation, spent hours and hours in past halo games making the coolest looking spartan, really big part of the game for me.
Admittedly, other players sometimes had terrible looking combinations of armor BUT Keep in mind, to them their set looked amazing, and thats all that matters
Would have loved shoulders in this game, or even if they combined shoulders and wrists into one calling it arms. (hope they still do, or atleast shoulders)
Bus since the armor looks amazing, since there will be a huge amount of variation in the style and since there will be a huge amount of skins, assasinations and other things im not actually too fussed :o

I understand what the developers are trying to do but even with hundreds of armors most people will either wear their 5 favorite armors and slightly change them accordingly since theres no reason to select the other armors provided since they might be ugly or not as preferred versus their favorites so in this case more customization should be allowed so those pieces of armor you wanted from other sets are in with your main armor. Oh well as it stands its Halo 2.5 armor customization with visor and skins, with only a changeable head. Hundreds of sets that won’t be used since people all have their favorite and with this limits even more unless they plan to give accessories to show the different armors.

If the sets were designed with a specific look in mind why not just have full-set-only customization? For instance, Nightfall (ODST) body armor doesn’t really look appealing with any other helmet.

I just don’t understand how they can justify the removal of in-depth customization with the “the suits were deigned with a specific look in mind” argument when they still let you choose a helmet that might not compliment the body armor you’re wearing.

Commando is in. It’s now called “noble.”

I think this time around I’m going to pick the helmet I like and go with what ever body it comes with. Spartans never mix and match in the novels/comics, and I want to follow suit. SeewutIdidthar?

Armor customization is definitely a step backwards in terms of possible combinations, and I see quite a lot are displeased about it.

That said, it’s not enough to disappoint me. More armor just wasn’t the answer in Halo 4. I’ve said before that I prefer Spartans to look more consistent and that maybe if visor customization was taken out, that might have been the nail in the coffin for me, but…

We get something even better in return. Apparently Spartans can be turned jet black now.

I was disappointed at first, but got over it when I realized that I really just want to play the game.

But as for the armors that we’ve seen so far. They all look pretty awesome, and are way beyond the weird armors like Engineer, Tracker, Ranger in Halo 4 that seemed too strange to look good. And it looks like they’ve definitely improved the textures for the armor so they look much more metallic.

Also, there seems to be some potential for their to be an option to alter the color of your spartans upper-undersuit, which matched your primary color in H4. This is based off of Campaign images of Chief having an undersuit color matching his secondary instead of his primary like we’ve been seeing normally. Other Spartan’s like Kelly also show an undersuit that doesn’t match her primary color, but Fred’s does like we’re used to. If its an option people can go back to a Black undersuit if they so chose to. But the undersuit thing could just be part of the campaign spartan’s designs and doesn’t necessarily cross over to multiplayer.

Helmet, Visor, Body and Shoulders and more y like the customization

Can’t they at least give us the shoulders. I understand some parts aren’t visible and that it’s to make armors more complex, but being able to change shoulders allows us to make asymmetrical sets like Carter, Emile or Jorge

I just want a lot of armor choices I never really cared about customizing your shoulders arms and legs because it was a lot of work trying to find a combination that looked good. They are adding in different armor skins so that will be very cool.

I’m just hoping the armor will look better than what Halo 5 offered. I loved Reach’s as well and 4 was a good enough variety of customization for me.

Im hoping for Mark IV too!
and I think they could at least let us customize also the shoulders like it was Halo 3 (although instead of the full armor you could only customize the chest piece in Halo 3)

I don’t care for the quantity of things that can be changed, especially seeing the various “combinations” people came up with previously. I would just like plenty of quality options to choose from now. Halo: Reach had the most appealing sets in the franchise, and Halo 4 was very deficient in that regard. Given the Spartan models for the main characters, I’m optimistic on that front.

I agree with this sentiment, I would have just liked shoulder customization added in. I did LOVE Halo 4’s customization, but I loved/hated Reach’s. I liked the options Reach had like adding bits and bobbles to your helmet and whatnot, I wish that was in, but I hated that every chest was the same just they had added components. Like underneath the Commando chest you could see it was just the default Mark V chest.

This is also very true, customization really lets you show off what kind of Spartan you “are”. Sleek and stealthy, or big and bulky, etc. And yeah, the Commando is returning and the Air Assault is also in, I just want the default Mark V**, CQC, Pilot, and Military Police from Reach back.**

Its funny, I L-O-V-E Spartan customization, but I can also relate to this, I am also a Halo lore nerd and realize that most Spartans don’t swap out armor systems, but for me sometimes I might like only parts of a set you know? For example I really like the overall design of the Infiltrator set from Halo 4, but am not the biggest fan of the helmet. I also definitely understand the choice to limit the armor from a technical standpoint because Bethesda did that for Skyrim. With less things to load for the armor, you get more performance, can do more things, blah blah blah lol. Any yeah you’re right about Locke’s armor. Everyone’s armor really. Fred’s, Kelly’s, Buck’s, etc, the armor looks much more detailed than ever before.

hahaha yeah, I am sort of a snob in that sense, I love customization, but hated how some people made their Spartans. Like some people make them all black with the bulkiest armor options… I personally don’t like that look. I like the arms idea too, that would be cool if they did that.

Will there actually be hundreds of sets or just like a handful of sets but each sets has a bunch of skins? I literally want every kind of Halo armor from every game and then some new ones, lol.

yeah in the beta I tried rocking the Nightfall with the Recruit BRN and it just looked… off. Also the size of the Nightfall helmet was a huge turn-off for me. I think the limiting of armor customization was done in order for the game to run and perform better. Bethesda did the same thing with Skyrim. By combining armor pieces you have less assets to load and things can perform better I believe.

you are way too punny for your own good.

I agree with you. The armor customization in Halo 5 is a slight disappointment for me, but I am still freakishly excited for the game. And yeah, I was wondering if that was true, or just a glitch or something. Spartan Team Black here we come.

I like your investigation skills! The undersuit was never really a problem for me, but you are right, that would be for a customization option and also the suits that have been revealed do look amazing.

Yeah I would like shoulder customization back, because I actually do like the asymmetric designs of those Spartans.

I personally don’t think just skins will do it, like you said at the beginning, we NEED armor choices. If we don’t get immense customization, we should at least get an unprecedented number of Spartan armor.

MOARRRRRRR VARIETY!! And wait than what Halo 5 offered?

And why not right? We have the Nightfall suit in honor of Halo: Nightfall, Buck’s armor is obviously ODST-inspired, the Noble armor is honoring Carter… with Halo Wars 2 on the horizon, why not give us the Mark IV? Also, idk if you’ve seen or not, but in the back of the Art of Halo 4 there’s a gallery of armors they intended for Halo 4 and the Mark IV is among them!

Yeah some people did have dumb combinations, but I actually feel that Halo 4 had better than armor than Reach. Reach had a great militaristic look but I am someone that wants options, even if some options may not look the best, I love just having the ability choice and with more choices, you are less likely to run into someone with the same combination as yourself.

I’m disappointed i hope at least helmet, shoulders, visor and torso. That would be fine!
i’m waiting to 343i patch that later on
