Halo 5 and the Elite controller

I got no experience with this kind of controller and is curious about what it could add to the game. My first thought when I saw this controller was, great now I can put Ground Pound on one of the paddles on the back and not having it share a button with another function. Is this how it will work or will the paddles work like AXYB, just on the back on the controller?

Probably not because the game would have to allow for you to map the button layout. I don’t think it does

My cousin used to have a SCUF controller for the OG Xbox. He said he could play Halo 2 Multiplayer and not have to lift his thumbs off, which is quite nice if you’re an elite gamer.

I was going to get one of these until I saw the price. Honestly, I don’t think GP not being on Melee would give a significant advantage anyway.

The game doesnt need to allow button mapping. There is a special app for the controller on the Xbox One dashboard that loads the firmware and your customizations into the controller. Therefore working with all games.

“Cheaper than SCUF, built for a pro. Turn off the lights, watch how it glows!”

The elite controlled doesn’t make as big of a difference as it does in other games. Something like Halo CE or Halo 2 (especially with being able to aim while performing a BXR) is where the controller really shines, but Halo at its core doesn’t really need the extra paddles. It’s just a nice addition to have. I was hesitant about the $150 price tag as well, but a scuf, cinch, or battle beaver custom isn’t that far off the same price tag.

Plus think about it in the long run. How many new controllers have you bought becausean analog started drifting to the left or because they were worn. Now you can replace them for probably $5-$10 bucks and have them customizable too (they released images with gears emblems on them). You’ll spend probably $200 total over the lifespan of the controller if you take good care of it. That’s roughly 3 1/2 controllers.

So what I’m getting from this is that it only remaps buttons, not abilities? For example the X button usually “interacts” and reloads, so I won’t be able to just put reload on a paddle and keep “interact” on the X button.

From what i understand of what you are asking seems impossible…are you asking if you can map X for the interact button for every game by changing one setting? This controller adds 4 buttons that you can map to anything you want.

Definitely not… this is button mapping. What you’re asking is to change the game itself.

They’re the same thing in Halo, PC or console. You’d have to ask the game developers if they feel the need to use that possible option if available.

This controller will come in handy on a tryhard level. But if your just in it for fun I wouldnt waste your money. i will be getting one though.

I used to have a controller like this. It makes a huge difference. Especially with the addition or thrusters and AR/SMG aim. There are certain actions which you want to be able to perform mid combat without losing control of the right thumbstick (aim). Shoot (obviously), nade, Zoom (aim), melee, thrust. Things like sprint, reload, and swapping weapons are not as critical. There is currently no layout that allows you do all these things basically because there’s not enough buttons.

My personal preference is to play bumper jumper and map aim and thrust to the 2 main paddles. sprint and reload (board) can be mapped to the lower paddles for additional convenience. I’ve was bummed about not being able to play h5 the way I really wanted to. With AR & SMG’s having zoom/aim you really need a more dynamic zoom option other than the clunky clicking of the stick which throws off your aim. With this controller, it will be awesome!

I seen some clips from some of the 343 pro team talking about using the elite controller, they’ve got a few in the studios and have been playtesting Halo 5 with. Sounds like both have been working well with each other. I like the idea of and may try and pick one up myself. I’ve got a terrible problem with clenching in my thumbs and even protection doesn’t help a lot of the time :frowning:

On every control scheme for Halo 5 there are 2-3 important buttons that you need to lift your thumb off the thumbsticks to hit. The new controller will make it so you will never have to lift your thumb off your thumbstick, which will help immensely in gunfights.

I was thinking of buying a scum/cinch for halo5 with the new thrust and COD aiming. So excited for this as the third party controllers have dubious quality from what I’ve read.

I want this controller but I can’t justify the cost. I’m not an elite gamer. I’m good but I don’t play in MLG or anything. It would be nice but I need some convincing.

I’m kind of mad I bought a Scuf a little earlier in the year. Scuf is going to go out of business from this…

Anyway I’m buying an elite controller even though I already have a Scuf. I really like what I see in it.

those halo 5 controller the locke and MC are those elite controllers or just regular ones but just custom with halo design

The elite controllers look great and I’m ready for custom mapping and the durability/swap parts factor over the standard xbox one controller as well. Day one.
