Halo 5 and Halo TV show in fall of 2015?

Considering the Halo TV series has not started filming nor any actors casted yet makes me think the Halo TV show isn’t going to be released until fall of 2015.

Since Halo 3 (2007) came out two years after the xbox 360 was released (2005), I would not be surprised if Halo 5 doesn’t happen until fall of 2015 as well. I expect that at the 2014 E3 we could get some in-game clips and more info and images how the Halo 5 story could span over many different planets and other teasers but that’s it. We could see the entire Halo franchise updated for the Xbox one in 2014 (celebrating 10 years of Halo with xbox live) and offered as a special edition to fill the gap until 2015.

They have sated outright that our Halo experience on the Xbox One will begin in 2014. While it technically can be a technicality (like the Halo 5 beta launching in 2014, or some side game) other comments by Phil Spencer suggest otherwise.

TLDR: Halo 5 is coming out in 2014. We don’t know anything about the TV series though, it could lead up to Halo 5 or pick up where Halo 5 leaves off.

I expect something more like online-only Spartan Ops in 2014 to celebrate 10 years of Halo with xbox live, and to build-up the story for Halo 5 in 2015. Since Microsoft wants to sell as many xbox ones this holiday season, I expect them to be vague about what actual Halo game is coming in 2014 so consumers will fill in the lack of info with their own wishes. If Halo 5 was actually coming out in 2014 they would have been far more specific about it, but instead they are being rather vague.

It is possible the Halo TV premier (mini-movie) could come out in late fall of 2014 as an xbox live exclusive, then the tv series goes to all media platforms in 2015 to create Halo 5 awareness.

The more I think about this I believe that the xbox one ‘exclusive’ Halo game in 2014 will most likely be very casual by design and will most likely use the new Kinect to directly tie-into the Halo TV in a new multi-media experience. Most analysts predict that the Xbox one will not sell as well as the xbox 360 and Halo 3 sold better than both Reach and Halo 4 even-though there were far more xbox 360s total in 2012 than in 2007. Microsoft is going to want to expand the Halo brand to casual gamers and Kinect and the new TV show have to be part of that plan to create a Halo game that can outsell one made all the way back in 2007.

I’m expecting it to premiere around Spring 2014 or Fall 2015, but that’s just me being optimistic.

If we look into the past, every business that Microsoft has done with Hollywood has gone up in flames. Whether it be Peter Jackson’s abandoned Halo Movie, or Halo: Chronicles, they’ve always ended in failure.

While Halo: The TV Series is as official as it gets, there’s always the possibility and fear that it could walk down the same path as its predecessors.

A Father’s sins… Passed to his son.

If Microsoft is ever going to sell a Halo game that will outsell Halo3 they are going to need to attract a ton of new people into the franchise and I’m sure they think the Halo tv show is the way to do it. With all the competition that exists now, it is unlikely that the installed user base of the Xbox one will ever exceed the xbox 360, and if it does it’s going to take a long time because Sony is handling the PS4 way better than they did the PS3.

While true, doubtful with Sir Spielberg.

The only business model that could allow the xbox one console to outsell the xbox 360 is to create a subsidized model where and xbox one can be bought for $99 and subsidized by monthly installments through cable and satellite companies. Using this method with an exclusive tv centric Halo game designed for causal Kinect players would be used as the ‘killer app’ to sell this new interactive multimedia experience.

Spielberg has his name attached and probably nothing much more. And his work hasn’t exactly been shining examples recently either.

I’m guessing the Halo TV show might fall through. Besides, why produce a show which will most likely have a budget higher than the average TV production and only air it exclusively to Gold members? Just place this show on network or cable television for everyone to watch. It might even attract people to buy an XBOX ONE or the Halo games. If it’s exclusive to only the console and Gold members, than I have no hope for the show. It’s going to be as bad or worse than you expect and in my opinion, could even possibly tarnish the brand.
