Halo 5, and 343's statement.....

Okay, so first off, I’m gonna remind you all of what 343 said before Halo 4 came out. “We believe a good Halo game should be evolutionary and not REVOLUTIONARY”

Now, before anymore hate gets thrown 343’s way, I want to say they were correct in that notion, but the thing is, they evolved from the WRONG GAME.

“But Agent Knight, whatever do you mean?” you say as you sip orange juice with your cookies given to you by a blue Spartan in Mark V armor.

What I mean is, they should’ve evolved from Bungie’s previous games…not…Reach…

Now you’ll be saying “But Agent Knight, nobody wants a Halo 3 clone!” as you nom said cookie from before.

No, I don’t want a Halo 3 clone, but I believe everyone would be a whole lot more accepting of Halo 4 if it derived from the first three.

Proof? The success of Halo 2 and Halo 3…Halo 2 DID introduce a lot of new stuff (no fall damage, duel wielding, etc.) but it didn’t stray too far from that formula we all love, it IMPROVED on it.

My hopes for Halo 5, though it’s logical to assume this ISN’T the case, is that they grab at the originals for evolution to a new game…not…Reach.

Again, it’s logical to assume that they won’t, that they’ll just continue with this. Perhaps I’m wrong, perhaps they WILL do Halo 5 more like the originals.

So who’s to blame if Halo 5 dumps? Ironically, it’s Bungie…now finish that cookie and orange juice, he wanted you to have it in case he died.

It really depends, man. I mean you’re talking two very different variants that don’t seem like they’d go well together. So first off, what kind of cookie? And second, why can’t I have milk with it instead of orange juice? Cookies and Orange Juice just doesn’t work if the cookie has any chocolate in it.

Now don’t get me wrong, orange flavored chocolate is okay, but not in a bakery item. I could see orange juice working with maybe a nutty cookie, macadamia or something (almond?) but now we’re just desperately looking for something to fit.

Whereas with cookies and milk, it will always work no matter the flavor of the cookie or even what type of milk. Soy, almond, cow, etc.

My point is this: I think classic Halo, if Reach and Halo 4 hadn’t changed it, would be considered stale, redundant, old, etc, right now. However, since they did change it and it wasn’t very popular, and now there is such a demand for it to return, it’ll have a revival. (are you familiar with the story of “New Coke”?)

now I’m hungry

Are you referring to MP?

Because if so, I think 343i calling Halo 5’s MP an arena shooter is encouraging for those that enjoyed classic Halo MP.

Regarding the Campaign. There was little wrong with Halo 4’s campaign, and in many ways it was better than the original trilogy’s story.

I hope they break new ground. However, my personal desire is that they continue to place the focus on MC-117 as the playable character.

> Regarding the Campaign. There was little wrong with Halo 4’s campaign, and in many ways it was better than the original trilogy’s story.

I would disagree heavily on a couple of things, for example the original trilogy didn’t hype up a villain for 70% of the advertising only to send him out in a brutally one dimensional and anti-climactic way.

First things first, I’m surprised no one got the RvB reference…by (possibly) the most famous character in it.

Second, I am indeed referring to Multiplayer, but I have to agree that they did build up the Didact to have to him disappear (don’t believe he’s dead) but in all honesty, that opening cutscene that introduced him made my hair stand up on end.

Was worth hiding from the internet.

I got the reference (Caboose). I just thought it would be funny to have a reply talking seriously about only cookies, as if that was the issue. Plus it’s lunch time.

The original trilogy hardly had a set, individual villain.

The Didact wasn’t supposed to be killed, and there was no way to defeat the Didact conventionally.

You could also say that Bungie hyped up the invasion of Earth for Halo 2 and 3, especially Halo 2, and didn’t deliver nearly at all. We spent a total of 2 missions on Earth, which only made up less than a quarter of the game. The Earth plot was quickly abandoned, and it definitely didn’t feel like a planet under seige.
“Earth will never be the same.”
Halo 3 brings us back, Humanity on its knees, the seige of Earth heavily underway. And yet again, we hardly feel it. The planet is certainly in worsening shape, but the limited view we have and the shift of focus to the Ark again fails to capture that Humanity on the edge of extinction concept Bungie kept marketing.

But my thread is mostly about multiplayer, as a lot of people claim that “Come for the Campaign, stay for the Multiplayer.”

So, back to that >.>

OP: I got the RvB reference.

@MrMartini: Was that food-related post by any chance a metaphor?

@Teh Spearhead: I think his voice (and his music) made up for his QTE.

I agree with all of that, except the highlighted part. I’d LOVE 343i to have as much (if not more) focus on Locke as/than the Chief. I always love multi-perspective storylines. Just my opinion though.

I tried to make your point several months ago. As I see it, when 343i took ownership of Halo the first thing they had to deal with was Reach, particularly Reach’s multiplayer. Two of the most notable things they did was nerfing what was considered at the time the most objectionable Armor Abilities, and introducing FireFight Arcade. I think doing these two things had too much influence over what they did with Halo 4.

Reach is my favorite Halo game. Having said that, if I were in charge at the time I would have banned every employee involved from playing or otherwise having anything to do with any Halo game other than CE, 2 and 3. Why? Because Reach (along with ODST and Halo Wars) were spinoffs. Side games meant to keep your interest while the main game was in production. If you’re doing a game about Master Chief, build from the games that featured Master Chief and, by extension, have the multiplayer behave more like (but not exactly like) the Master Chief series.

Thing is, now I have no idea what direction Halo 5 will go. As of now it looks like they still like the idea of “chaotic gameplay.”

First: Who eats cookies with orange juice?

Second: I stated the following in another thread (which I believe is relevant).
“Halo can improve and continue to be unique without adding crap features; for example, Halo 3 was a huge jump from Halo 2, yet it only made simple tweeks in gameplay (ie. equipment, new weapons/vehicles, more dynamic maps), while making giant leaps in features (ie. Forge, theater, file sharing, vast custom game improvements). The past two major Halo installments did the exact opposite by making risky leaps in the core gameplay, while not adding new fun/unique features (besides firefight… which, by the way, was added in the Halo 3 spin-off game ODST). This is the problem.”

Basically, I agree with OP. 343 needs to build off of Halo 3, not Halo 4 or Reach. They should stress on making minor changes to the core gameplay, while focusing more on having fun new features. In addition, they need to attempt to split up the community by creating competitive/ranked playlist and casual/social playlist that both play differently.

Yes, but don’t let it push Master Chiefs humanity story arc aside.

Am I the only one who thinks Reach was a very good game?

I’m just visiting because I heard there was orange juice and cookies in here.

Well, at least I don’t go around knocking on people’s non-doors and promising them cookies and then NOT GIVING THEM COOKIES! I’M LEAVING!

Where did you hear this madness?

BLASPHEMY!

I found it fun also, can’t say it was better than previous halos but it was decent, 4 let me down.
