Halo 5 - Alternate Story?

First and foremost, I apologize if this topic has already been discussed. Still trying to figure out this forum after a long time not visiting.
But would Halo 5’s story and plot been better if instead of Locke and Fireteam Osiris hunting down Chief, Blue Team hunted him instead? If instead of blindly following him after Cortana (an AI I think none of them have worked with to my knowledge) they chose to follow orders and allow a separate team to bring her in, believing this the best choice for John’s sake? This could have created more chances for better characterization for the members of Blue Team and Chief as well, because he would then have to choose between tracking down and bringing Cortana home and losing the trust of his family he just became reunited with, or choosing to side with his Spartan brother and sisters and leave Cortana after everything they had been through.
Instead of a “Locke vs Chief” fight, we could have gotten a “Fred vs Chief” fight, with both of them arguing about following orders, loyalty, family, a “no one gets left behind” mentality, the strategic importance/value of leaving/finding Cortana, Fred taking a more logical viewpoint and John taking a more sentimental one, etc. as well as a more emotionally jarring and hard-hitting fight between two men who are basically brothers who believe that what they’re doing is the best (Chief finding Cortana to help with closure after her “death” in Halo 4 and Fred believing it’s time to let go as the best way of closure and stop living in the past).
We could have had some interesting dialogue between Halsey and Blue Team after finding out they let Chief go by himself, some more insight into the Arbiter’s friendship with Chief as he chooses to help them find him and they swap stories or something, Chief beginning to doubt himself for the first time after feeling like he abandoned his Team and feeling alone again without them, and then Blue Team putting all that behind them as they finally meet up with Chief only to see Cortana take him away for her “big plan” and now must rescue him like Osiris did when they teamed up with Blue.
I don’t know, these were just some of my thoughts. Let me know your own thoughts or opinions.

Usually I’m not a fan of alternate Osiris threads but this would actually have been fairly interesting.

I think the Hunt would have been a lot more interesting if they just stuck to their original guns and made the Chief’s intentions ambiguous for a while, so we are honestly questioning his motivations. As it was there was positively no drama to the Hunt at all since both sides knew his motivation from Mission 2.

How did you feel about the whole “Locke vs Chief” campaigning only to have them fight briefly and then team up?

I really thought it was a huge letdown after the massive hype of the ‘struggle’ between the two teams and their leaders. I was also very disappointed in how little development there was for Blue Team members not named John-117.

I like this. Probably would have been better than the garbage we got lol

Yeah that’s exactly it, the “Greatest Hunt in Gaming History” lasted for all of 1/3rd of the game and ended in a drunken bar brawl that really meant nothing since we already knew the whole story. It sure seems as though the rivalry was originally going to be a much bigger part of the story because with the Chief’s motivation unknown (the UNSC possibly believing HE was the one activating the Guardians), he would have actually been branded a TRAITOR (punishable by death) not just AWOL (punishable by imprisonment) and Locke very well may have had orders to kill. That would have been hella more interesting. But 343 may very well have dropped it because they got nervous that it was too shocking to the fan base. I wish they would have just stuck to their guns.

“The Greatest Hunt in Gaming History” was settled about as quickly and as irritatingly automatically as our hunt of Jul M’dama. I swear, mate, we’re too good at this job for our own good…

As for the story you suggested, that’d be pretty good though. I’d be down for that.
