Halo 5 Active Armour Properties

The one thing that I’ve always wanted within Halo is armour that features physical properties contained within the description. So EOD armour is more resistant to explosions, EVA provides greater awareness, and Scout and Recon are significantly better adapted at keeping your current location a secret.

I know some players obviously love choosing their armour purely for the aesthetic properties, and taking this route may rob players of that aspect. But there’s no reason why future Halo games couldn’t feature playlists that sport purely aesthetic armour modifications, and others for operational engagements.

It also takes Halo away from the ‘perks’ aspect which, to some, has proved unpopular, but it maintains an essential ‘Halo’ feel to everything within multiplayer.

With Active Armour Properties in future releases all armour types would sport individual properties based upon their original canon. Armour abilities would be replaced with bespoke options suited to the armour itself, and equipment could be dropped altogether or retained within multiplayer, depending on gameplay needs.

Here’s a brief list of what several armour options could provide for the wearer. Additionally, each player could also modify various parts for aesthetic reasons: visor, armour peripherals (TACPAD, Storage case, med Kit, Grenades, etc), and there’s the colour to think of as well.

EOD – Greater resistance to grenades and other explosions.

EVA – Greater spatial awareness.

Scout – Reduced radar silhouette and slight increase in speed.

Recon – Impeceptible radar silhouette.

Air Assault – Mastery of Air units and vehicles.

Gungnir – Improved accuracy with scoped weapons (increased zoom?)

Thoughts, opinions?

In my honest opinion, I think linking Perks with armor sets would be even worse than the current implementation of them.
Aside that Perks have been a game-breaking addition, armor customization should definitely solely stay aesthetical.

I think your suggestion would completely destroy the individualism and creativity of the armor customization because everyone would select or rather would be forced to select the armor set that gives him the “best” advantages even though the look of the armor doesn’t appeal to him in the slightest.
Even if it is only for a slingle playlist you would always have to change your armor before entering that playlist or you would end up with x-amount of different classes.
Besides, splitting Halo into Arena-based and Class-based gameplay is the last thing it needs in my opinion.

I think there is a lot of room for additions and ideas for the armory but those additions and ideas should solely be aesthetical and should not affect the game play, especially not the base player traits since Halo has always been about equal starts.

I hate when games do this since it forces me to always go against what I want my player to look like, just to pick the best bi uses which will happen if this was implemented. People would have all the same armour, pocking the best bonuses and the lower ranks will have a disadvantage. This would also cause problem in customs with people not being able to control peoples perks that they gain via armour.

Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes that would be a great Edition for Halo nice brain of your to think that lol!

Then I’ll shut my face.

> Then I’ll shut my face.

Well, it wasn’t my intention to shut you up or stamp down your idea.

When such an armor customization would be your personal preference then I respect that but it would definitely not appeal to me in the slightest.
I simply stated my opinion and personal thoughts about your suggestion like you have asked for.

Don’t worry about it. Just wanted to get a feel for the topic from the community. It has pros but it also features some enormous cons.

I just wanted someone to say it.
