HALO 5 - A Veteran Players thoughts

Hey guys, id like to start this off by saying ive been playing halo almost religiously every year, since halo 1. Few can say that and even fewer can say they were great players. Im a huge halo fan to story, multiplayer, lore and books. So everything I say is my opinion not, so not everyone has to agree. Also have played on multiple accounts.

Expired Exotics (current & last)

Now for the praise and criticism. Ill start off with the bad so we end on a good note.

The first noticeable change to halo 5 in the pace. Everything seems to be happening at very increased rate. Which is good and bad which is why I have this on my good changes to. But it can be easy to mess the halo forumal by changing key components. Halo has been a medium for pace for a shooter since CE, even tho slight changes were made to increase a slight bit, never has it been changed to increase the pace as much as halo 5 is doing. (Halo 4s pace was increased a vast amount also. But halo 4 is as fast as id like it.) It can get fusterating to have a enemy across the map firing at you to him/her flank you thanks to sprint and thrusters and vaulting over feature. This can lead to knew tactics and playing styles, but its just not what us veteran halo players are use to. And expecially MLG players the old MLG teams. Speaking of them, this game is designed for MLG esports, and the casual first person shooters such as call of duty. Which is wrong in my opnion because most people buying halo games are huge halo fans!!! Which are millions. But when we look at the Halo MLG players list there are only a few compared to millions. Why not listen to the people actually filling servers and playing everyday even after a new halo comes out? It doesnt make sense to me, halo 2 was made and designed for the fans who loved the story and gameplay. Why is halo changed to the point where its made for MLG broadcast? (Btw I love MLG and some favorite pro players. So no hate to the MLG). Moving on to the ability to ADS( Aiming down scope for you noobies out there). This is a poor decision made by 343 in my opinion, just to please some of the casual FPS gamers. So more people will feel more familiar with the game since their modernizing it. This ADS feature Is not a fan by me.( It looks cool to do of course but it doesnt seem like halo to me when used). Next is the lack of customization, I could be wrong due to not seeing full game. But since the customization of halo reach & halo 4, theres no reason to back track now. It was what gave us th player to express ourself and feel different. Unlocking things feels slow and so far alot seems similar with the designs and armor pieces. This is beta so might change and hopefully it does.

Now for the good. I really enjoy the map designs ive seen so far. Not to many obviously but the ones I have seen have alot of likeing by me and seem like a true halo map. Hopefully this doesnt change come the release date. Second is the shooting and gun feel. I personally love the time it takes to kill someone and how much you can take before you die. I feel in my opinion its a little easier to kill although not by much, but this is a good thing because it makes the game slighter more challenging and competitive. And the guns feel fantastic, snipers more powerful sounding then ever. Also satisfied with the BR look and changes. Hope the new weapons added and power weapons are balanced and keep great feeling too. Also Gameplay, the gameplay no doubt feels halos when it comes to maps, guns and atmosphere. The good thing about the fast pace is it makes things feel like your always engaging with a enemy, and theres not moments of boring looking for someone. Which is nice in a way.Lastly the ranking system is at the moment I feel misunderstood severely. Will need some work for sure but its a sold device for keep track of skill level and spartan rank. Which is two different things. But this reminds me a mix of halo reach and halo 4s. Which had very solid and balanced matchmaking systems. I hope this system carrys over to the full game.

So thats its my overall thoughts so far, could add alot more to both pros and cons but this is long as is. If you read the whole thing thanks for sticking around that long to read what I had to say. Your more the welcome to share what you think and if you agree and disagree with anything that ive said. More will be coming from me about Halo: Mcc and Halo: 5 Guardians.

I haven’t played it, but I will admit it seems the average Halo veteran player would have an issue with the pace. It’s the fastest that we’ve seen out of any Halo. As for MLG players this will test their ability to adapt. Remember that each Halo has a unique aspect/ feel to it. As for the catering to other people. That’s what Halo has to do. Call of Duty has ended and now 343 Industries wants their players= more Halo players. As for Aiming Down Scopes I don’t like the look of it, but on the other hand I do like how you can use it to perform a ground slam. I like how you were able to end this all on a good note. Many fans have over dramatized the Halo 5 beta saying “it’s ruining Halo”. Based off of gameplay I can say it looks weird, but promising.

This is true that most of my buddys (which are also Halo veterans) are troubled by the pace. The best way I can describe it is being confused. It has that halo feel with weapons and maps, but the pace very increased, so in my eyes its throwing people off by the change of gameplay speed. Which is not a bad thing In some cases. And yes the ADS is one thing id never prefer, not because its like COD or other games, just because its not halo. The ground slam isnt to appreciated by me but it could fit into halo 4s multiplayer so its not to big of a change gameplay wise. Just still prefer not to use it. And yeah halo should always end on a good note.“Hear that 343?!!” But people have seriously blown halo 5 out of proportion which its negative feedback. Its much of a change from current halos, down to minor things. That said its heading in a good path, just has to remember its halo. Dont try to make halo into something its never been. But appreciate the feedback man

If I were to remove anything from the multiplayer I would only remove the climb ability and the ADS. Yes, Spartans should be able to climb (after all they’re super soldiers), but in gameplay it looks awkward and clunky. It would seem weird to have to double jump like Mario to get up somewhere. As for the ADS it looks like it works better on some weapons than others. If anything I’d keep it on the original non-scope weapons (ex: Assault Rifle) and maybe the pistol if it feels like the Halo 2 pistol, but I’d keep the original zoom in ranged weapons such as the Battle Rifle and the pistol if it feels like the Halo Reach/ Halo 1 Pistol. Otherwise I think the ground slam looks like a cool, unique addition to multiplayer though I could see it maybe being overused. The thruster packs add to the blur that is the gameplay, but what I like about it is its power. In Halo 4 the thruster pack had a good concept, but I never used it because it wasn’t powerful enough to effectively use it. I wanted the thruster pack to project you further when you used it like it does in Flood. It seems Halo 5 Guardians got it right.

I agree with both of those things getting taken out, but the vault move over things to be isnt much of a gameplay breaker. It definitely does look akward when preformed, though is a slight useful to get around the much elevated maps. And yeah agreed with ADS on that it has to go not with all obviously not like the BR or pistol. But the ones that never had a ADS option. And the slam does look good id admit. But just a random ability thrown in there it seems, could have a way better more useful ability to take its spot. And yea truly do love the addition of the thruster pack. Works perfectly in my opinion and is a great tool for bad placement or situations.
hopefully alot of the communitys feed back is taken in by 343 and can work to Improve halo 5 for release

I’m sure with everybody’s complaining about how 343 Industries is “ruining the Halo franchise” and the civil war that has erupted on Waypoint, they’ll make changes. I’m fine with most of the changes and even the ones I don’t like that’s just from my perspective on watching gameplay. Once I’ve tried out the Halo 5 multiplayer maybe I’ll like ADS or vaulting. With how split everybody is on how multiplayer should be handled I think 343 Industries will have to make a playlist just to please the fans that believe the game’s being ruined. No abilities, no sprint, no climb, etc. Everything like how it was in Halo CE and Halo 2 which to me just seems boring. As for the ability I’d love to finally see teleportation. I know that originally they planned on having that in Halo 4, but they decided to remove it. Just to prevent it from being overpowered they should make it so you can’t go through solid objects, you only get one teleportation before your power needs to recharge, and the recharge time would have to be longer to compensate for how powerful it is

XBL Grifhunter
just wanna say I am enjoying halo 5 beta and look forward to playing some grifball!!!

Yeah grifhunter it is a great halo beta for sure. And I guess my overall thoughts looking back on them may look like im hating on halo 5. Dont be mistaken I love halo 5, and the direction 343 is taking it. There will always be changes threw every new entry to please gamers demands. This is where i hope 343 doesnt take it far, and stays true to the halo gameplay and universe. And Warmachine: Id like to see a teleportation ability in the game as long as its balanced sounds like fun! Appreciate the feedback on my opinion guys, also I enjoy hearing what yous have to say and feel about H5.

I think that its not really halo anymore. Halo five has turned into a chief/cortana fan fiction.
