Halo 5 a collection of contradicting features?

-343 adds thruster pack for jukes/strafing in combat, then add tons of aim assist, bullet magnetism and increase grenade blast radius

-They add clamber and design maps so that you need to use it, when a normal jump would do just fine in older games

-They try to prevent people from sprinting around double-meleeing by adding an even worse alternative (Spartan Charge)

343’s motto: “If it ain’t broke, try to fix it and fail.”

Also these:
They let you deal damage, but give you a shield.
They let you crouch, but not lay down.
They let you zoom in, but not while in vehicle.
They let you change your armour, but not your species.
They let you buy req packs, but not req points.

-Thruster Pack is still plenty useful.

-The reason they did this is to try to force clamber to serve some actual purpose. Without it, it would be nothing more than a crutch for missed jumps. Either way it’s an entirely pointless mechanic.

-Yeah, I have no idea why they added spartan charge. Launching someone in front of you then skeet shooting them is pretty much just as bad as double melee. That said with certain weapons such as the Storm Rifle you can melt the charger before they can even get a shot on you.

You want to see a game with contradictory mechanics though, look no further than Black Ops 3. All these movement options yet the best strategy is still to just camp and slowly move about the map, because if you get caught moving you’re pretty much dead instantly.

Are you guys serious? “This mechanic is pointless because they added it and then designed stuff around it.” Are you -Yoinking!- serious?

Because if you add something for no -Yoinking!- reason and then DON’T design anything around it, THAT is the dumbest -Yoink- ever. Get OVER yourselves.

Like, really…?! I can’t wrap my head around the armchair game designer philosophy that runs so deep on these forums. You guys will nerd rage about anything, even if you have to make up something to rant about.

Eh, I parctially agree with this, as any change requires some balancing in other areas, in some cases.

However then there are things that are pointless, like clamber.
It doesn’t really do that much, it’s more of a second chance to failed jumps than it is a tool for good players to do amazing super advanced skill jumps.

How do any of these contradict each other? Changing a map that doesn’t need clamber to where you must use it is absolutely pointless. The shielding point makes no sense either; why doesn’t every fps have a one shot kill for any and every weapon?

You have a good point. Except in Halo’s case, why is clamber any better than having the maps suited for a normal jump?

Clamber is actually useful for getting over cover and getting the jump on someone who is facing your way. In previous games you’d have to jump and float in the air for a second, leaving you just as vulnerable as your opponent. With clamber you can go instantly from covered to offense without hang time, giving you a slight advantage against an opponent expecting a jump or for a flanking attempt.
