halo 5 9th most played game on xbox

halo 5’s population has dropped off massively only 4 weeks after release. it’s averaging 8-9th most played game on xbox that’s behind destiny which was released over a year ago and gta 5 which was released over 2 years ago. why is this? well halo 5 isn’t a bad game it’s actually very good, i’d say the best multiplayer game i’ve ever played (started playing halo 2002). However i called this when they released the playlists before launch, there isn’t enough content and variety. I was told to “be patient it will be released in time” this is what happens with that mindset people lose interest.

maps aren’t the main issue, more maps are needed but there are enough to hold people over. It’s the playlists and gametypes. There needs to be oddball, KOTH, infection, snipers, doubles and most importantly social playlists. I agree with the competitive angle 343 are aiming for but playing ranked and competitively constantly is boring and not fun. There needs to be wacky gametypes that mixes the gameplay up completely. weekend playlists? is this their idea of trying to look engaged with the community? let’s create a playlist everyone wants and votes for and then remove it after 3 days…

It’s such a shame 343 have made an amazing game and they are killing it by not releasing it’s full potential, i mean the MCC was a mess but each game in it had more ways to play than this one. halo 3 at it’s launch in 2007 had the following playlists available at launch:
ranked
lone wolves
team slayer
team objective
team tactical
team doubles
social
rumble pit
social slayer
social skirmish
big team battle
multi team
social doubles

It’s not 2006-2010 anymore, there are more games to choose from than ever so halo just isn’t gonna have the population it once had.

However I agree about the lack of content at launch. There is so little content that when when new stuff does come out its not gonna be enough to keep the game from being stale.

It’s also really annoying how little 343 has communicated about playlists returning. IMO, the writing is on the wall that a lot of them aren’t gonna return at all.

that’s true there are more games but good games hold population regardless of what comes out example gta 5

Xbox Games Catalog: All Games | Xbox It’s the 4th most played game. The second most played multiplayer game. Dunno where you are getting your stats from .

I think they just made it too competitive and it will not appeal to as many players as the more casual players. The really competitive crowd is smaller than the casual one.

Release half a game - Population drops accordingly, or at least the amount of spots equal to half of the list.

This was ensured by 343 and their “it will come soon” comments.

Also, doesn’t surprise me.

that’s most popular not most played. i’m getting it from most played on the xbox dashboard

Those other games are cross platform and as such have a much larger magnetism to them. Halo 5 isn’t performing poorly. All the games above Halo are mega titles and are cross platform. You can’t really draw the same comparison between them and Halo.

There are more people playing madden 16, NBA 16 and minecraft fight now

I wouldn’t exactly call those mega titles

10/10 could not agree with you more.

There’s apparently so many games to choose from, yet despite this immense quantity of games all anyone wants to play is CoD or FIFA.

I think that’s a bit of a contentious statement anyways. Medal of Honor is one franchise that consistently had new titles during Halo Ce and Halo 2, slowed down considerably during the 360’s lifespan, then died off completely after the 360 did. I wonder how many other franchises follow a similar story.

In fact I feel like doing some quick research.
Original Xbox Games (969 games, Unknown Exclusive)
Xbox 360 Games (1,162 games, 73 Exclusive)
Xbox One Games (272 current games, 495 including planned games, 40 Exclusive)

Not really selling the whole “more games” point to me. In fact I’d argue there’s less games and less variety when it comes to what we already have.

Problem with this is that it fluctuates based on current player population, so whenever you check it may be in a different spot. As of when I’m looking at it is fifth

So really they should have the same set up as halo 3? Couldn’t agree more
I enjoy H5 multi but there needs to be more playlists

Face it, non-believers. Halo 5 is declining and 343 failed with launch. I’m already bored with arena unless I have a team to play with so Warzone is all that’s keeping me. Feels like the game came off weak and 343i is slowly feeding it over time, stalling its demise. Terrible plan.

Minecraft is kind of a big deal… like 2.5 billion dollar let’s purchase it kind of big deal.

Madden and NBA are not only long running and firmly established titles, they are among the top sports played in North America. Of course they will have more players playing them.

EDIT: North America, NBA

Mine craft has been on the npd top ten sales list every month for god knows how long now. It’s a huge title for any game to go up against, even if it isn’t our cup of tea (which I’m guessing most shooter fans don’t fall in to the mine craft camp).

Madden tops the sales chart for the month it releases, and stays in the top 3 for months after words every year without fail.

NBA 2k16 has been getting reviewed as the greatest basketball game (and some sites are saying greatest sports game in general) ever made.

Stuff like that can’t be compared to halo 5 fairly. A better comparison would be to look at how many shooters are in front of halo on that most played list.

Morningstar I respectfully disagree with your conclusion.

Shadow of Mordor is pretty sweet. I’m enjoying myself.

BO3 and even Destiny are out-playing Halo 5. That’s how bad it’s become.

That’s fair enough my friend and I appreciate that you brought your opinion forward while still being respectful so I very much want to say thank you

As I write this H5 sits 8th on XBLs most played list
5of the 8 games above it are shooters fallout starwars destiny blops III GTA V (may or may not count as a shooter)
The other two are NBA 16 and Madden 16
