Halo 5 4K patch

Hello, I was wondering if installing the 4K patch on the xbox one S for Halo 5 makes any graphical difference/improvement even without a 4K TV or with one.
And if so, How much and in which areas is the most noticeable?
Thanks

Nope… Without a 4k tv you won’t see any difference. Xbox One S doesn’t play games in native 4k only Blu-ray movies or Netflix. Basically it’s a 4k blu-ray player that plays 1080p games.

If you have an Xbox One S, you won’t even download the 4K patch. You need an Xbox One X for that patch to be downloaded. The Xbox One S can only play movies in 4K, it cannot play games in 4K. However, BadDogg is slightly off the mark. While the patch does improve the screen resolution to 4K, which is only noticeable on a 4KTV and only in effect on a 4KTV, the patch does update other facets of the games presentation, such as texture filtering(with some 4K textures being brought over from the Halo 5: Forge PC release I believe) and anti-aliasing, and that is entirely noticeable on a 1080p display.

4k patches are exclusively for the x.
Now the s WILL upscale to 4k IF you have it attached to a 4k tv, but it is just the exact same signal just blown up. If it’s just a 1080 tv, the it will perform no different than a launch xb1. With the exception of I think a few random fps in a few games.
Now having gone from the launch system and a 1080 tv, to upgrading both to a x and a 4k hdr tv here are mythoughts.(x at launch Nov 17, tv late Feb 2018
Halo 5 specifically looks MASSIVELY better on the x even on a 1080 tv. I had to just go into custom games because I kept paying more attention to the level and the walls because of details i literally never noticed. Obviously having it on a 4k tv just makes it better.
This is my experience in almost every game enhanced for 4k(native, dynamic, or upscaled) both on the x and even the ps4pro. If you really want that type of experience, and can only upgrade 1 thing, id say keep your 1080p tv and just upgrade from a s to an x. The difference even with a 1080p tv was massively noticable to me. Though getting an x and a GOOD(not cheap, do your homework) 4k hdr tv is even more of a drastic leap. Even though h5 doesnt support hdr.

Thanks for the reply, by the way, what is ani-aliasing
And also, the xbox actually allowed me to download the patch. I feel like if it does look better in some areas.

“Anti-aliasing” is a term used to describe methods for reducing jaggies on the edges of assets. If you look closely at the Spartan model, for instance, you’ll see a lot of jagged lines (aliasing) around the outside, among other places. Anti-aliasing serves to smooth out these lines so the model looks sharper. You won’t notice any of this on an S or OG console.

How can I install this 4k patch?

It’s done automatically. If your console is compatible and supports it then it’ll do it by itself.

One S, One X and onwards support the patch.

Please don’t revive old topics thanks - D M4N8, you’ve been around long enough to know this

If you have the update applied, the file size should be around 97GB
