So 343 got rid of the cursing, etc that the game use to have. You use to have a Mature game and Halo Guardians is the first in the series to be a teen game. I remember being a kid and part of the appeal was seeing the Mature rating. But it appeared the games is meant for kids now. It doesn’t have that gamer / professional / adult feel anymore. Maybe it’s a niche so they can get the kids in the 6-10 range (years of age) so the parents won’t get mad? We use to kill people, be able to kill your own team (-Yoink!- the marines off), now the people you kill are robots or completely fake? The irony is that my 6-10 year old nephews are telling me they are too old for Halo.
This game is definitely Teen rated.
But that’s because it’s definitely scaled down. There’s no inappropriate dialogue (Go look at Halo 3 AI Dialogue), blood effect is significantly reduced, and the whole game retains your typical serious sci-fi feel.
I would’ve loved to see the game go the other way. (More blood, funny inappropriate dialogue, comic relief situations, cursing, etc.) Cause I highly doubt real soldiers would say cheesy stuff like “Let’s knock them back to basic training.” LOL. My opinion, of course.
EDIT: This game probably would be rated E for everyone if there weren’t assassinations and the little blood splatter that there is in campaign.
Its better off teen rated. Im not crying about it not having mature content, as it barely had it before. The teen rating opens up a lot more sales and halo really needs that now or else its gonna die.
More people can buy it this way. Plus previous Halo games weren’t that bad and honestly I don’t even think Halo 4 deserved an M rating. Maybe 343 did it on purpose or maybe ESRB is just adjusting to the times
Halo was never really “mature” enough for an M rating, aside from the flood. It’s a miracle Reach-5 weren’t T rated without the gore the flood introduced.

What these people said. I’m sure that previous Halo games would probably get rated T by today’s standards.

If you think ratings have stopped parents from buying little timmy a new game you have issues man…
Sigh. Well, your worldview disappoints me on more than one level (i.e. “its for kids”), but I can’t change that.
What I can say is I don’t see how that applies to Halo. The game never had that much cursing or gore or anything in the first place. It was an extremely soft M rating at best, and I’m pretty sure it’s still possible to kill your teammates (not that killing humans has ever been a significant part of any Halo game). Pretty much nothing has changed except the letter on the box itself, which is a big deal to some people for some reason. Pretty sure Madden is rated E, yet I probably won’t find many adults who are embarrassed about playing it.
Don’t mind the T rating as it might help keep the game’s population up, when lots of younglings can buy it without parental guidance
tbh I don’t care how many little kids there are in my Halo game as long as they help populate it

Ratings exist for a reason, because people pay attention to ratings. Besides, now timmy can buy the game himself.
343 took out funny inappropriate dialogue and honestly the feeling of the game feels less serious with the things the AI say now. I’m pretty sure they did it to bring in the younger audience who are more susceptible to buying req packs and conforming to the way of this “new halo.”
