If halo 5 had double exp no one would care to play it. In h3 I would look forward to double exp weekend and prey it was ranked.
People actually cared about there record in h3. Now days people don’t have a reason to continue to play day after day. Also being able to check players rank and record pre game made me want to try harder. I want to make someone lose there 50 or not reach it. If someone was on there high skill you knew you were about to have a good game.
If they trialed a playlist with 1-50 ranking system even with the arena settings it would be the highest populated playlist.
my question is why don’t 343 trial this before h6 releases?
The 1-50 system was flawed imo and encouraged smurfing. While I want the military ranks to return, I prefer the system we have now. As for double XP weekends, yeah I want it to return, but it shouldn’t be the main reason you play.

Exactly! That multiplayer raking system has only been around in Halo 3/Reach

H5 actually does have double XP occasionally, and it’s quite a popular event from what I can tell. Lots of people seem happy to grind during these weekends to try to climb the Spartan rank ladder. Whenever the double xp events end the H5 forum gets flooded with “when is 2x xp coming back” topics. I’m not sure where you’re drawing your conclusion from.

I personally play games because I find them to be fun and a great way to spend time with my friends spread across the States. It sounds like you need a carrot dangled in front of you constantly in order to play? That sounds like a job to me. Like… work. To each their own.

In addition to the points Meds gave above; I just want to point out that is an assumption. One you can’t justify. Aside from the fact that the system is still in place there isn’t a good way to accurately determine future events.

What? It’s not hard to implement military ranks into Halo 5’s system.

I’ve highlighted the points I want to address. First, people still care about their record. Maybe people don’t talk about it anymore but I know for sure people still do, as evidenced by seeing threads of people complaining about getting dominated by sweaty people in social. They want a warm up before they play ranked(sometimes). Second, people have reasons for returning to play. One: completing their armory. Two: if in a spartan company, grind for achilles. Three: finishing achievements they some have left over. In regards to the last statement I highlighted, you can do the same to literally any rank in the game besides bronze 1. You can cause people to drop in rank regardless of where they are.

Those are both false. One reason that can apply to both of those is SR 152. I look forward to double XP because it gets me to 152 faster and getting to 152 is a reason to play daily.

People didn’t care about their records in H3. You cared about yours. I didn’t give a -yoink!- about mine. Generalizations are best avoided. Double exp may motivate you but it doesn’t motivate me. Checking opponents service records in the pre-game lobby may have been a source of motivation for you, but for a lot of other people it was the tool of choice for confirmation of the gross compromises matchmaking is always forced to make, and was considered a driver of quitting.
If they trialed a 1-50 playlist it would motivate some players (like you), alienate others (like me), and be a source of confusion to anyone who hadn’t played Halo 3 (possibly quite a few players of this game considering that Halo 3 is eleven years old now, and considering that anyone who really thinks that Halo 3 or 1-50 is the be-all-end-all can go and play that game with that ranking system any time they want to. It’s still supported. And I suggest you give it a go as a way of reminding yourself of some of its downsides since you clearly don’t seem to remember a single one of them. And there were many).
I like the new ranked CSR system better, I think it’s nearly perfect, we just need pre-game playercards back so you can show off your shiny rank.
But player rank, as in “level 80” or “level 140” couldn’t be worse. I literally could not hate it any more.

The pregame play cards looked dumb

Which ones did? I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Every other FPS game has playercards you can scroll through to view player stats and customization, Halo 5 just has some stupid little tiles that don’t even have names on 'em.

One could easily argue the current system has as many flaws and encourages smurfing as much or more then the 1-50. I played one pile of halo 3, and I know I see more new accounts in Halo 5 then I ever did in Halo 3, but that’s me. I also want military ranks back. I hate being a diamond 5 or an onyx 1678 or something. Just looks and sounds dumb. At least replace the SR with military ranks names or something like Reaches would be better.
I don’t hate the new system, but I know plenty of people who quit Halo 5 because of it and who hate rank resets too which I can understand why. I don’t hate them as much as I used too, but I’m still not a huge fan. As someone who can’t play as much as I used too, I’ll never be able to get super high rank. I’m usually around high diamond, low/mid onyx and I can never get any higher because of the resets. It’s frustrating, so I can understand other people’s frustration there too.
Honestly, I think both aren’t TOO different. I am looking forward to seeing ZaedynFel new system that they are working on for matchmaking though. Should be interesting…

I don’t think the new system encourages smurfing more than the old one. Before, if you played a lot of games, it just got increasingly harder to level up and you’d be stuck at a certain level. At least with this system you move up and down consistently. The only reason I can see people smurfing with this system implemented is to destroy low level noobs or to find matches faster, none of these the fault of the ranking system.
I agree with military ranks. Let’s hope Mister Menke implements them.
Rank resets I can see both sides for. Maybe once a month you’re allowed to reset your rank but you don’t have to? I think that’d work for everyone.
The 1-50 military rank system was far superior to what we have now. Everyone started at rank 1 and had to earn every single rank increase all the way up to 50. It actually meant something. And on top of true skill you had to win tons of games to achieve a rank.
In the current system the placement matches take all the fun out of working your way up the ladder. Not to say you can’t still work your way up, but if I place diamond after my placement matches, I just don’t feel incentivized to keep pushing much further. I could care less about hitting Onyx 1574…
Not to mention in the current system all of your progress gets completely wiped at the end of the season. A seasonal HCS playlist with resetting ranks would be fine, but the base modes in H6 should return to the H3 format. And to address the grievance of too many people hitting 50 in H3 (which I personally don’t think was a problem - I never even reached it) would be to extend the top rank to 75. Then you spread out the field and give people that same chase from the classic games.
Those were the good ole days before every game in every genre had the same generic ranks: bronze, silver, gold, etc.
