Halo 5 120HZ.. with Series S + X .. Why Not?

Here’s a thought I had…

343 should have selected Halo 5 for the 120Hz upgrade with the new Series S/X…

This would have lead into momentum of the Halo Infinite release and competitive scene…

I know they said H5 won’t receive an update for the Series X… even though it now runs smoother on the Series X…

What do you guys think?

EDIT: … if they do not come out with 120Hz… at least add/rotate some maps… ?

I mean personally I don’t have an Xbox Series X yet or an S but yeah I agree they should give Halo 5 an update.

Well… I just think from a business perspective too…

Halo 5 was the most recent in terms of events/tournaments, which went really well!

If they updated H5 with this 120Hz experience, and launched a tournament schedule of pro teams building into the Halo Infinite release… (and on video release of Infinite, they could show pros playing against each other…)

The hype and momentum would already be there and make an easy transition…

Just my thoughts

Most likely because they would have to update H5 to run properly above 60 FPS. A lot of work was put into future proofing the MCC games so that they work consistently on all sorts of frame rates. Things like bullet travel speed and physics updates would need to be independent of the tick rate. When anything to do with H5 comes up it seems that 343 would rather not.

Agreed, and I understand the general principles that work is obviously required to update…

I just wanted to see what the community thinks on the 120Hz idea, and it seems like a logical business step, too.

Halo 5 is extremely competitive, and if Infinite is similar (from which we’ve seen sprint, slide, and clamber), then momentum could start being built now!

Could you imagine H5 at 120Hz? How much smoother, and less input lag?

do you all mean 120 FPS? HZ is the refresh rate of your tv/monitor , you games run i frames per second or FPS

No, 120Hz - if your monitor can support it, you can see the image twice as fast as 60Hz, which makes it smoother, but also reduces input lag!

Yeah it’s too bad, they don’t seem to much effort into the logevity of their games. They did the same with H4.

At least H5 was actively updated for much longer than H4 (admittedly, some of the “new” features should have been there since day one, but at the end of the day they weren’t entirely left out).

I too wish they properly upgrade H5 for XS, but I’d rather they stay focused on Infinite first. And they probably think the same as well.

Gaz Mareli, to expand on what Smooth said, you need a 120 hz refresh rate monitor/TV to see 120 frames per second. If not, the game will be at 60 fps on a 60 Hz set.

Watch out for marketing gimmicks like 120 Hz clear motion index or other terms. This is a native 60Hz set, using software to make it look more like 120 Hz. This is good for live sports fans, but your XB will not recognize it as true 120Hz. Look up VRR (variable refresh rate) and native 120 Hz sets… this will send you down the right path.

@OP, agree :+1: it makes sense from a business standpoint and the transition to Infinite.

Halo 5 really needs 120 hz mode.

games dont output in Hz, they output in FPS and your monitor proses in Hz.

yes I do understand how this works, op dont seem to know the difference between fps and Hz

new halo shud have a 4k 60 fps mode and a full had 120fps mode on the new consoles.

I just got an S and noticed that it does run smoother. I do wish there was some kind of idk…update or optimization for the newer consoles. Is there any settings I should mess with? Asking any of you peeps that have an S. I have a tuff asus monitor if that matters. I havent messed with any settings at all. Everything was auto calibrated

I understand the resources required to optimize 5 at this stage is probably a wasted effort. However, I’m sure it would been nice…

maybe he is thinking fresh rate for a computer

Hopefully Microsoft’s backward compatibility team adds FPS Boost to it. I check here regularly: Games Featuring FPS Boost - Xbox's Major Nelson

Mareli7696 - you’re not wrong… but for the purpose of this conversation - an end user will never see more than 60 fps on a monitor at 60Hz. The fps are limited by the refresh your eyes are seeing on the TV/monitor.

Just like you’d never see 4K from a XSX on a 1080p monitor. The monitor is the limiting factor in that case too.

Everything has to shake hands & be running over properly rated HDMI cable… 4K, HDR, true 120Hz (not software based) from both sides.

Why dude?. If on Xbox One Fat I can play with 60hz and that is really enough. At least to me. And yeah, I usually play with 120 Hz on my PC, but that is not really important to me if any game run on 60 Hz.

120hz is just objectvely better than 60hz… thats why

Yeah, but you affirm that it is better, but I asked you why, I don’t see you give me any argument that supports this “objectivity” you mention, dude.

After all, we shouldn’t deviate from the main topic that we are discussing in this post, I mean, anybody may report us because we are talking about “off-topic” comments. We don’t need to discuss what seems objectively better or not to you, the only thing that I want to say is that we don’t need some Halo “upgrade” on Series X, because it’s not necessary, that brings a lot of work for 343, and they are currently focused on Halo Infinite, considering that they have already stated that they have no intention of having their staff available for these things in Halo 5.
