Halo 4's Situation

DEAR MODS: This is meant as a legitimate Halo 4 thread created to spur discussion, so it would be much appreciated if this remained in the Halo 4 board and not the Community Creations Board.

So I’ve been thinking that I hadn’t seen any Halo 4 situation vlogs since the title update and I wanted to make one myself; I think you guys will see a good summation of the community’s mindset at the moment. Discussion is encouraged!

(also, enjoy the Rampage gameplay)

Thanks!
Oxide

I truly agree with a lot of what you said.
Vehicular combat has been diminished due to Personal Loadouts.
Personal and Random Ordnance diminish the purpose of map control.

I personally believe Halo 5 needs Ranked and Social Playlists.
Social implementing anything 343 wants.
While Ranked stays true to classic Halo, at least mostly.

I’d also like to see more remakes with Halo 5.

Basically, the problem with 343 isn’t that their new ideas are necessarily bad.
Rather, that they’ve abandoned long-time fans of the series.
They need to learn to keep the old stuff and new stuff seperate.
If they can grasp this mentality, Halo 5 and 6 will be the best Halo games ever.

you deserve more subs

As much as I love Halo, I personally hated the whole ‘map control’ bit, becuase it wasn’t map control… It was more camping around set power weapons, that respawn int eh same place over and over again, and getting destroyed by the team that camps the best.

That was always unpleasent.

Personal ordnance removes that issue, though, I think (And I hate saying this, trust me I do) That they need to make personal ordnance a little like a score streak. Make it where your ordnance meter get’s reset when you die, instead of increasing how many more kills you need per PO. That way you actually DESERVE the bloody thing, and it balances things out better. You still have a chance to get a power weapon to help tip the balance in your favor, BUT you aren’t spawning them out the -Yoink-.

I don’t think vehical combat is diminished because of the personal load-outs, because well… Even with the damn things, most people don’t use the right load outs against vehical’s half the time, at least from my experience. But, they should buff how much damage a vehical can take (AND BLOODY HELL, FIX THE SPLATTERING SYSTEM) Then things would be better… Because flying the Banshee on Ragnarok=Suicide.

But, I do agree with the separate playlists. If they did that, it would calm some of the more so called ‘competitive players’ -Yoink- a bit.

But, those are just my two bits. I personally love Halo 4, it’s among my favorites out of the series (And before I get flamed, I’ve played this game sense it first came out, I remember how great 3 was, and how fun 2 could be…), but it does need some serious polish. Over all though, this game is still far more balanced then CoD. I know I got killed (Most of the time) by someone who’s most likely better then I, or I -Yoinked!- up, and cost my own life in doing so. Not because of something cheat such as Clay-mores or flash bangs… I’ll take running into an active camo guy any day. At least I know how to spot them, and can take them out easily enough.

Erm, anyways… Sorry for the rant. I’m sure most will disagree with me, but those are my personal idea’s that might polish out the Ordnance and vehical bit some… At least they got AA’s right this time around. Well, besides Jetpack… That thing + needler = PAIN Shudders

Also wanted to say sorry for my -Yoink- spelling, and bad grammar. Hope I don’t burn someone’s eyes out with it. >.<

I agree w/ most of your points. I think 343 is trying but their pace is a little slow when it comes to implementing changes (which is good and bad). Its good since most of the changes seem to be a step in the right direction (even the white X although imperfect). They did also nerf the BS, fix numerous glitches, add plenty of gametypes by community demand (snipers, grifball, swat, action sack, throwdown, doubles etc), and are working on further tweaks. However, it can be frustrating to the community which wants immediate results. Normally I would tell people to be patient, but the sinking population numbers are a serious problem. I know that I will have to personally convince the majority of my friends to give H4 another chance once the weapon sandbox is live and maybe when “legendary slayer” is released. Which brings me to another point - Infinity Slayer. This was an idea that 343 thought would be their stamp on the Halo franchise and would move the game forward. While many of the older Halo players (like myself) don’t consider it ideal, there is a large portion of the current community that love it (just read the forums). So rather than remove it entirely, they should just add another playlist entirely. The direction they seem to be going in is the release of a “legendary slayer” game type which should lean towards older Halo games. Since they haven’t released any specifics, we will just have to wait and see. But my hope is that it will satisfy those who didn’t take a liking to infinity slayer. Then based on popular demand, they can decide whether or not to put the legendary settings as one of 3 options on other playlists like BTB.

Couldn’t agree more. Really what ended up “breaking” Halo in a lot of aspects was the coexistence of casual and competitive gametypes. Ordnance for the newer player can really improve the experience when playing a game as tough to pick up as Halo. But without separate causal and ranked playlists, strategy goes out the door. It simply becomes a waiting game for who can get lucky enough to acquire a powerful weapon.

I have to agree with pretty much everything that you said. I am extremely frustrated with Halos current state, and I really do not like to say that. Halo 4 did some things excellently, but I feel that they made way too many changes that impact game play negatively.

Camping is when you wait for someone to come along and ambush them.

Map control is when you maintain control of a key area on the map for strategic purposes, like it is a power position, or it is where a power weapon will spawn and you want your team to control the power weapon. These are two different concepts, and you don’t need to “camp” to “maintain control”.

Map control is a secondary objective, a game within the game. Without it, Slayer reduces to a shallow game of nothing but who can slay the most. With random power weapons, it becomes worse still - who can slay the most usually due to randomly having more slaying power.

This. I have some pretty serious doubts that 343 will abandon (bad) gameplay elements like armor abilities, classes, and POD, but even then, they need to make it so that the skill gap remains without having some endless cycle of “who gets the better ordnance drop”.

And rants are always welcome haha.
