I hated how on Reach you could still lose and rank up, but on H2/3 you had to win in order to rank up. Anyone agree?
Yeah Halo 3 is a much better game than that stoopid Halo 4 game from the future!1!1
I liked 1-50 ranking system.
Reach valued winning I don’t know where people got this from. You got more credits if you did well and won. And Arena was altered to look mostly at W/L ratio.
Edit: But I do agree with you, if Halo 4 has competitive ranks they should value W/L more than K/D.
Im 100% with you on, this
- ranking up when your on, the losing team leads to more AFKers and people quitting more often just look what happened with Reach .
If you win you get credits / xp points or can Rank up
If you lose you get nothing
Inb4 I lose because of my teammates
Play with people on yours friends list or a team.

This
Credits lolzz
I afked in a BTB party of 7 other friends JUST TO SEE HOW MANY CREDITS I would get for DOING NOTHING - no kills - no deaths - no helping with the objective I DID NOTHING FOR 15 min or something like that and got just over 6000 Credits
What that’s soooooo Broken
True story .
Because games need to cater to the casual market now, if I jump on for a few games over the weekend and constantly get beat time and time again, by some kids who play everyday and I get nothing for it I am not going to keep coming back to play.
I liked it back in Halo 2 when they eventually removed their ladder system and your ranks were hidden, kept people giving their best and not feeling “oh crap these guys are a 43 and I’m a 15 we are going to get smashed” and already giving up before the game started.
In Halo 2 ranking system, you could actually rank down even if you won.
In Halo 3, your hard work would be a waste if the rest of your teammates weren’t trying to win.
And then there are the problems with derankers, boosting, yadda yadda yadda.
If the game cannot encourage you to win through it’s mechanics alone, a ranking system isn’t going to do much to change that. In addition, to allow progression of rank through skill defeats the purpose of skill ratings in the first place.
Why do people care so much about ranking system?
The fact that they’ve changed the name from competitive multiplayer to war games doesn’t exactly help this argument.
There is becoming a larger segment of multiplayer players that are competitive, instead of just hopping on for fun. Reach’s system dealt with that by looking at individual ranking rather than team, so I believe it is better that way. In Halo 3 the majority of people were casual so a team system worked better.

Doesn’t fix the issue. Almost no one on my friends list plays Reach anymore. What about that?
I play with pretty good teammates, so it doesn’t bother me that 99% of my friends don’t play, but lots of people can’t get anyone to play Reach with them AND have to deal with undesirables. What are they supposed to do?

I have the same thing with REACH its sad really NO one wants to play it
NEVER HAD THAT WITH HALO 2 or HALO 3 and a friends list is 99 people you should be able to find a few .
all i want is a great game for everone not just the tryhards or the none tryhards BUT EVERONE
Ya I like the halo 4 ranking system, I mean it wasn’t perfect with all the boosters and derankers but it worked.
Not that I’m against a W/L rank system but the Devs. shouldn’t have to encourage people to win.People should want to win regardless, and if most people need a number that raises higher if they win to actually try and win well that’s their problem.Just winning is a great enough reward for me.

HALO 3
> Ya I like the halo 4 ranking system, I mean it wasn’t perfect with all the boosters and derankers but it worked.
No, it really didn’t. It was meant to match up people of similar skill, but by combining it with a rank progression system, you completely undermine the purpose of a skill rating number.

I get that. Personally, I only friend people I can get to know, so my list never has more than 20 people on it. Only 3 or people I know still play Reach. I’m the only one who plays it regularly.
But I do agree this game should be fun for EVERYONE.
> Reach valued winning I don’t know where people got this from. You got more credits if you did well and won.
The difference was marginal.
> And Arena was altered to look mostly at W/L ratio.
Not enough emphasis was put on Arena, it was only one playlist and ranks were reset, so no one cared about it.
