In the Halo 4 forum there is a terrible belief everyone has and that is their belief that Halo 4 will be the same as Halo: Reach. While, it’s basic human behavior to base something on it’s previous, let us not forget all the previous Halo games that made a good mark on history. Similar to judging a person. Just because they messed up once, don’t discount all the good things he did in the past.
Ok, so recently I was watching some old Halo 2 and 3 documentaries and interviews and I finally figured out what went wrong in Halo: Reach. It’s not the new features added in or the changes they’ve made. It’s Bungie’s lack of motivation and enthusiasm in Halo. Quoted from Jason Jones: “We’re our harshest critic. If you think your game is the best game ever, then it’s not the best game ever.” With that mindset, they were always pushing themselves to be great. Now. comes Halo: Reach. “This is the best Halo game ever.” It’s obvious that despite their love for Halo, they have sadly become bored of it. I can assume that while making the game, their minds was on their new project. Halo 3 was intended to be Bungie’s last Halo, but because their contract required five more. They had to fulfill their part of the bargain and bring out two more Halo games. I’m not bashing Bungie here in fact I love Bungie, but it is basic human behavior. Once there’s is a a lack of motivation and enthusiasm, whatever you’re doing will never ma.
Now this bring me to why Halo 4 will be successful. 343i is a talented group formed by a bunch of triple A developers who have quite obviously resigned from their previous triple A studios to work on a Halo game. These are a bunch of Halo fans just like you and me who now have the chance to make their own Halo game. Now they may be adding some new crazy stuff that we may not agree with, but I have faith in these guys because they’re fans and it’s clear that they love Halo too. They are enthusiastic about the Halo lore and they are ready for the first time to give their very own piece and contribution to Halo.
They are smart, have degrees and want it to be the best halo ever, BUT they don’t know how to make a competitive game, halo community wants a consistant competition. They have the education and background to make games but the ideas that spring up in their heads are not so good atm. maybe in the future i will be impressed. Even if I heard what i want to hear in the future there is still more things i want out that are already in that make what i want to hear not so exciting when in the mix.

Fixed that for you. Though I do agree with your overall statement. Halo has a much broader audience then competitive players. Though none of the halo games were built to be this super competitive game. The community made the games that way.Bungie did not go into CE and say. “Lets make the next Quake or something.” No, the MP was really thrown together. If you researched you would find out that CE’s MP was thrown together in 6 weeks.

If you are referring to 343i, then I am sorry I cannot agree on you on the “don’t know how to make a competitive game.” We cannot say for sure if it will or will not be a competitive game. Only the future holds that answer. All i can say is they have their heart right and to me that is an important facet especially in doing a game like Halo.
Thanks for the feedback.
It’s not about the competitive tryhards, its about having competition. Alot of people left reach cus they probably didn’t like getting beat badly against a full team. That losing team wouldn’t feel so bad if they had an equal opportunity against a formidable team. Ce MM thrown in 6 weeks? Yet halo 4 has been worked on for 3 years, we must be expecting a heck of alot of balance and minimal flaws compared to other games, I don’t see the excuse if you have had 3 years. Even you can make a list of what factors of a game make it competative in probably 5 minutes, but its the implementing and computer labor that will take up time.

we don’t need to play the game to know what something is, kinda like reading a fantasy book all we have to do is use our mind and it everything makes sense. Bloom is bloom we don’t need to play the game to know what it is, AA’s are AA’s we don’t need to play the game to finally come to a conclusion if we like it or not becuase we have already experienced it. You won’t be surprised. For example “AA’s are in, but we can’t really rant until we play the game!” and sure enough when you play the game jetpack is jetpack simply a dude thrusting in the air, hologram is a hologram just like reach. You won’t be surprised, point is you don’t always have to play the game to see how something will turn out specially in this contect becuase they never said “we add AA but they have been balanced and/or tweaked from reach” NOWW we can wait for the game to critque but no they simply said 'we add AA’s".

Oh in that case, I agree with you. No one likes getting stomped. Seeing the non existent true skill. A lot of people prob said, screw this game if I’m going to lose 20 matches in the row. Yes Reach had a lot of clunky things about it. But you have to take int he different factors on why people truly left That game… There is a lot of things bungie messed up on, even handling certain things at launch ( swat gametypes in TS) It was just handled so poorly
Of course its natural for us to expect halo 4 to be great for being worked on for that long. Well CE was pretty barebones. Reach was not even worked on that long(plus a lolbeta) But in this day in age you need to have to add on stuff to the existing formula. I know a lot of people hate this (including me at one point) Its just something you gotta truly face. 343 is not going to revert to the “good old days”.
That being said. I hope things work this time around and are handled correctly. I just want halo 4 to work out of the box. I have not been disappointed so far by the Conan Clip with the BR and responsive strafe and jumping. Something that reach truly lacked.
Yes, but 343 is also a new studio that lacks the development experience with Halo Bungie obviously had. I think Bungie had some really good specialty devs on their team with Chris Carney who made some of the best maps I have ever played in a shooter, Marty O’Donnell with the excellent audio work with the soundtracks, and their creative center in Jason Jones who was involved in the wide scope of the universe. Obviously there is alot of more devs that I am missing from the Bungie side, but that is just an example of devs that I feel did some amazing work and became accustomed to working on Halo.
Its too early to judge how 343’s Reclaimer Trilogy will feel in comparison, but I certainly do think they have potential to really expand on the great Halo universe and do bigger and better things than Bungie couldnt do back in the early days. They certainly are creating alot of content for Halo 4, thats for sure. My main concerns lie in the multiplayer side of things and how the new features will gel with Halo’s core.
I agree.
Many times halo rach has dissapointed me, mostly with their monthly changes that significantly change the way the game plays. I know things need to be added to the formula but i think they are adding the wrong things, actually they ar not adding, they are taking things from previous games, mostly reach and implementing them, I did like some things from reach but it should not be their game to emulate MM wise.
Just by reading these forums in a day i can figure out what people want in halo 4 and what they don’t want, it’s easy and visable and very clear. I know the non vocal majority exist but they are halo gamers and so are we. What we think and say here probably isn’t much different anyway.
Halo 2 and 3 had everyone hyped and everyone talkked about getting the game and how awesome stuff is going to be. Now, everyone is just confused as to what this game will really bring. People rant about new updates and other people tell them to wait until they play it, but really things will be worse when you actually experience what the bad news you heard months about before release lol. I just don’t want constant updates chanbging the gameplay like what is done to reach. I want the halo to be mostly solid and set in stone at launch, and maybe have the monthly updates things that don’t affect gameplay too much.
I’m just as worried as much as the next guy is on the forum. I’m just handling it a lot differently. Instead of putting all this energy complaining about it( Not saying any of you guys are.) I just focus on more positives then most I suppose. There is some things that bother me, but I’m just going to wait it out for the most part. Calling kids bad or telling them they dont understand the core blah blah stuff is not going to change anything you know?
as for halo 2 and 3. That’s because halo was the It thing. That title belongs to Call of duty. Well with BLOPS 2. They are mad because its too futuristic.
I’m not saying you can’t have your own opinion in any means. But the way its been done on the forums as of lately have been rather distasteful, and hurt the cause more then support.
All halo game have, been great/good for the most part Reach was a let down in most competitive players minds although it has gotten much better with each update 343I has done…
Halo 4 will be good / better then Reach
For it to be great all the things that are NEW need to be implemented in, the right way /, thats were Reach failed-- it had good ideas but bad placement …
