Prior to Halo 4’s release, I remember seeing forums and articles all over the internet about the classic maps that people would have loved to see make a return to Halo 4.
A handful of Halo 3 maps were among the most mentioned, and included:
- The Pit
- Guardian
- Narrows
- HighGround
- Construct
- Valhalla
- Sandtrap
and so on…
But of this small list of the most wanted remakes, we only got Valhalla (Ragnarok.)
It was far from the most requested map, but we got a nearly identical port from Halo 3. The most notable difference if the Mantis, but that is a conversation for a different supper.
So where are the other maps that the fan base wished so greatly to see in Halo 4?
I see one of two options:
Option 1: They are not going to add them into the game and, just like Shutout, will but up to the community to craft in forge.
Option 2: A Fourth and final map pack that everyone pays for, bringing the total gamerscore of Halo 4 to 2000. It would make sense to save the maps everyone wanted until the map pass is over. Think about it…
Do you think we will see official 343i remakes of any Halo 3 maps in the future?
I surely hope so…

I want new maps, especially with how Halo 4’s sandbox is.
Sprint would single handily ruin a majority of these maps.

I would agree with you Little Moa, but then you have to look at the remakes that already exist within the game.
Shutout: Plays fine, and doesn’t really suffer all that much from sprint. It feels bigger than the original Lockout, but I think it works in it’s favor.
Ragnarok: An almost identical remake, but it might be slightly bigger as well to compensate for the difference in mobility. It feels like the same old Valhalla, when the Mantis isn’t messing up offense/defense.
Sanctuary: The other day I was challenged by some guys to a 1v1 and they loaded up Sanctuary. It was bigger than the Halo 2 Sanctuary, but was almost an identical remake. It felt great to play on, even with sprint.
The point I am getting at here is that if they DO remake some maps, like listed in my OP… they would have to compensate for sprint by being enlarged slightly. I could see The Pit or Guardian being very fun in Halo 4.
With both sprint and the accuracy of the DMR, none of the Halo 3 maps would play well at all. Perhaps a couple of Halo 2 maps are workable. None of the CE maps would work due to killtimes, as seen in Reach & Halo 3 with Penance and Cold Storage, respectively…
Ugh since when did the community become so negative.
Did Halo 4 kill our hopes and dreams or what?
A classic Map Pack would be PERFECT for a classic playlist. You know… no custom loadouts, no ordinances, possibly even NO AA OR SPRINT.
You people seem to have given up hope, and it really makes me sad.
