Halo 4's campaign is near PERFECTION!

It’s SO GOOD. I love how it doesn’t tell you EVERY little detail of what’s going on, and it takes you to fit things together using lore from other things, it makes you feel more immersed. There’s 10 things that stop it from being 10/10 quality though (Hopefully Halo 5 improves on these).

  1. LITTLE BIT too linear. It’d be nice to see a bit more vehicle action.
  2. Mini-bosses scattered throughout campaign. (ex. Halo 3s scarabs)
  3. Cortana’s callouts, she tells you that an enemy is coming to attack you a little too often.
  4. Increase color saturation. Sometimes things look a bit washed out, especially in mission 6.
  5. Better soundtrack implementation in the actual game. There are certain times when the campaign could use that extra score like the ending to “Solace” to pack a bigger emotional punch.
  6. While I like how every litle detail isn’t pointed out to you, It’d be nice to see all the stuff you have to search for IN GAME, not on other things like books.
  7. NO QUICKTIME EVENTS PLEASE.
  8. Boss battles via gameplay are always better than a quicktime event.
  9. Give us less of a “wave after wave” type of feel/mix up the ENTIRE sandbox more.
  10. More beautiful scenery please! (Can never have enough!^.^)

Overall though, this campaign is AWESOME. I give it an 8.5 out of 10.

I just replayed the last level to relive the story. I must agree how perfect it is.

The only thing I would like is, like you said, more vehicles and less linear vehicles. That desert mission felt like you had to go somewhere and couldn’t really make any choices yourself, verses The Ark in Halo 3.

I disagree with you on music though. I thought it was perfect, possibly better implimented than it was in previous Halos. I think the silence in certain parts (like when you arm the nuke) was more emotional than music could ever make you, plus it really puts you in the moment. If you were there, arming bomb you knew would kill you and your greatest friend, would you hear music playing?

For me the campaign loses points for

  1. Boring Prometheans
  2. Overall look of the character design
  3. Chief talking too much
  4. Bad musical score
  5. The stupid ghost escape scene (making the boost faster with energy shields, really?)
  6. Forerunners looking like Voldemort
  7. Illogical ending.
  8. Chief’s face.
  9. Being too short.
  10. Chief stabbing through the hull of a covenant ship with a knife (WTF?)
  11. Bad explosions
  12. Bad textures on phantoms
  13. Forcing the player to read the books for full understanding of the story.
  14. Bad vehicle design.

I’m sure there’s more but that’s what came to my mind just now.

I disagree

Disagree

  1. No exploration at all. One track minded campaign.

  2. The score was not implemented well into the game. The audio fell off multiple times and/or was drowned out by other noise. Some tracks were cut short and osts had horrible transitioning.

  3. Cortana keep telling me the obvious.

  4. No background on Didact. He spoke 2 words and left. No story on events taking place after halo 3 and before halo 4.

  5. The mysterious Requiem feeling was tossed out the window very early after fighting the Covies so early and UNSC’s arrival. The Concept Art was very misleading, it felt like Chief was going to be alone for a long time and stumble upon massive forerunner structures. W U NO wildife?? No explanation to why Covies returned ingame; had to learn that from people who know the books. Not a single Jul Mdama was reported in Campaign, oh we going to save him from Spops.

  6. Where are these mini bosses you speak of? There either needs to be no boss battles or an actual one (not mini/sorta kind of). Also, ingame terminals would have been much appreciated. Could’ve brought back hidden skulls, but oh well.

Past games were better imo.

I agree with your opinion. the campaign was a very different experience yet a very satisfying experience. But it would be nice to see a more Halo 2 approach to Halo 5’s campaign.

Halo 4’s campaign was certainly the best story to date – and decent gameplay. I would say ODST and Reach are on par for best gameplay in campaign.

But Halo 4’s great. I enjoy the missions, there’s good cutscenes, and it has an actually interesting character arc that I expect to lead somewhere – which is more than those cardboard plots Halos 1 to 3 ever could claim.

Sgt Johnson, Arbiter, keys, Miranda, Spark, Gravemind etc are better than all the Halo 4 Characters combined. Cardboard my -Yoink-, that’s funny.

I agree with the music thing. I absolutely love Halo 4’s music but it’s not used very well during the Campaign, both the gameplay and the cutscenes.

Another thing that annoyed me was that the Didact wasn’t shown enough and because of that, he wasn’t a very good villian. Jul on the other hand is awesome.

To be honest, it’s my favorite Campaign. A few things wrong with it, but it’s 343’s first try. IMO it can only get better.

Also, one last thing. They should have put a lot more references to events in the past Halo games. Chief could have at least said to Cortana at the end of the game “I made a promise, to never let you go” or something like that. Just a few hints to the earlier games for the long-time fans to find.

Dude, we can have differing opinions. I seek characters that are challenged and change from their circumstances, and none of your preferred ones do that (except for the Arbiter, who I look forward to seeing again some day). But Halo 4 has interesting characters for me. They are forced to change and grow to acclimate to the circumstances.

One of the worst campaigns of Halo, so blank and plain. I could not stand playing it a second time for the legendary achievement…

Stop using the “It’s their first game” excuse. They could have just had Eric Nylund write the thing and it would have had a perfect story.

Halo campaigns need to be more open world - I want to get lost on some maps! I want to find a different way around behind enemies. Try ODST’s campaign - it gives you alot of that great action.

The cutscenes were a cop-out to make us think it had great graphics but they had always been done in-engine before so there was no jarring transitioning between cutscene and gameplay.

No scoring? Awful. I still like to get headshots and killing sprees and multikills popping up on my screen. Also the Halo 3 score achievements were a very fun challenge - play them through sometime, you’ll enjoy it.

Quicktime Events… just no.

I’ve played every Halo campaign multiple times through, this one I did co-op and solo on legendary and don’t think I’ll ever go back to it… doesn’t have the same draw.

For me, Halo 4 campaign is the worst to date in the Halo franchise.

Not enough progression of the story.

He falls on a planet, learns basically nothing of the last 4 years when he finds infinity, finds Didact he leaves the planet, the Didact battle sucked then the end… a little too short for my liking. Cortana … sigh* she was a complete turkey in this halo… “WRAITH” “DRAAP PODS” yes Cortana well done!

The best moment of the campaign was the composer level and the reveal of the Didact was pretty sweet definitely not enough of him though.

@OP: Even if I like Halo 4 a lot, i still give it just 8/10. Halo 2 had a much better campaign in my opinion.

I agree about all it lacked.

@Aokiji ICE TIME: Jul is on the campaign. But he is very sneaky.

In Halo 5, i think we need:
-A command system. I say this every time because i am tired of marines that drive like maniacs and that dont take cover somewhere… And that follow you like “you are duck mom and i have no initiative”.
-Exploring. Halo CE had this and i liked it a lot. Also ODST had it on New Mombasa.
-Different ways to play. Why i am forced to blow everything up? What if i want to stealth and infiltrate without being detected? One again, look at ODST. I could sneak trough buildings, or just ninja all the sleeping grunts.
-Scarabs.
-If the Lich returning, at least give AI, and let go the “moving prop only” thing.
-Dropped in a pod.
-Good boss fights like the Halo 2 ones. I mean, how is that it is so easy to beat the Didact. Press LT and beat the Ancient Evil that was feared even by the Devil…
-More memorable moments. When i played i was like “OK, OK, OK… Oh this is happening! OK.” But during Halo 3, for example, i always was like “Arbiter?! Awesome! Johnson! NOOOO! DAT ENDING!”. The Halo 4 ending was good, but i prefer Halo 3’s.

Sounds like your being a bit nostalgic. Lets look at your arguments:

  1. Opinion (The Knights were just harder elites that could teleport!)
  2. Care to explain more? It looks more realistic than any provious Halos.
  3. I agree.
  4. Almost everyone disagrees with you there. It’s DIFFERENT, but not bad. At all.
  5. Oh but a warthog run doing the exact same thing from 2 other Halo games made by Bungie would be PERFECT right?
  6. Opinion. Still a better villian than Tartarus.
  7. This I can agree with you on mostly.
  8. His face was already revealed prior to Halo 4.
  9. WHAT? Did you even watch the epilouge or play Mission 4?
  10. He’s a SUPER HUMAN. It’s ok for him to fall from space into Earth and not get a scratch though of course, because Bungie is perfect.
  11. While I agree, that’s an issue with the graphical engine, not the campaign.
  12. Bad render distance on Phantom.*
  13. You don’t need to read the books to understand it, it just answers all the details many people don’t care about if there just casuals.
  14. That’s all opinion man.

Campaign was amazing to me. I never thought I would enjoy a campaign in a Halo game more than Halo CE but Halo 4 is my new favorite.

Halo 2 campaign is the best for me

Followed by 3 then 4 then Reach

My personal opinion ofcourse

Halo 4 campaign was great my favorite things about it are

The ghost run AWESOME

scenery beautiful levels

Mammoth

broadsword

pelican

My main problems were

Campaign was 1 mission short

too many buttons to press

not much exploration

Forcing the players, both casual Halo fans or hardcore Halo fans, to read four novels, watch a mini-series and then wait for two more books to come out after the game releases to understand the story is not good storytelling.
