It’s immersion. I love about every single aspect about it. Just the fact every game mode is narrative and the fact Spartan Ops came out weekly POST LAUNCH made me feel like War Games was actually training me for these operations.
There’s many other examples of this throughout the game, and I hope this is on a higher level in the next games, but I have a couple gripes:
-
Less complicated HUD. All those lines and text are not needed and a little distracting. It would be nice to see a return of the perfect Halo 2 type of simplistic HUD, with a little bit of Halo 4’s thrown in.
-
Chill with Master Chief’s dialouge. I felt some of his dialouge was unneeded in the game and appealed to people who can’t figure things out themselves mainly, and made me feel as if I wasn’t the Chief, that it was a less-intelligent character. A happy medium between the amount of dialouge in Halo 3 and 4 would be perfect.
Actually, now that I think about it, this applies to the overall game. It treats me as if I’m stupid and doesn’t let me figure out much on my own, it spells out all of the little details for me.
The best feature in my opinion is the box the limited edition came in. Effort went into that.
My least favorite aspect is the game itself.
For me it has to be the variety and constant stream of content e.g. books, FUD, weekly updates, terminals, campaign, SPOPS, community videos/creations, merchandise, quicker map packs etc.
From a few months prior to game launch and even until the end of this month I feel like most days I can get new Halo content and it’s all quite relevant to the universe.
It’s a welcome change from a game every 3 years and the occasional book from years ago.

I believe this kind of ties in with the “immersion” factor. If were constantly flooded with GOOD content then we slowly become more involved in the universe. Which is so awesome in my opinion.
The Mantis, I love Mechs very much, and is a very powerful vehicle… I’ve been wanting to use one of these since I saw the Cyclops on Halo Wars.
Although I have many negative things to say about the game, now on this thread is not the time for that. I love the;
-
IMMERSION - as you said in your post. I love picturing myself in my own suit of armor, being able to customize my loadouts (although there some issues with balanced gameplay), service tag, go into War Games (which is now canon!) and being deployed with Fireteam Crimson on Spartan Ops missions. I also found many characters in 343’s universe to be very relatable. In Bungie’s trilogy, I was never able to relate to Master Chief but in Halo 4, I can. I’ve went through similar struggles and obstacles and I know how he feels. I think 343 made him a powerful character and developed him much, much, further.
There is so much customization in this game, it’s not even funny. Too bad Boltshots and DMR’s can ruin your perfectly designed loadouts.

Lots of stuff to do - Campaign, Spartan Ops, Multiplayer, achievements, Commendations, Forge, Custom Games, watch Forward Unto Dawn and other Halo-related videos, meet new friends online, read Halo books… the list goes on and on and on.
It makes a decent coaster. The credits music is nice, too.
Better…
Writing (campaign)
Features (with respect to SOPS and what that does for long term co-op gameplay)
Gameplay (than Reach, see. no AL, Double Melee)
Balance (than Reach, specifically in that automatics can be useful which perhaps only one or two Halo games have ever been able to manage before.)
And it can generally be counted to be fun (outside of multiplayer though I think that’s not stricly the game’s fault) even after a decade grinding Halo down to a bland powder.
Great game
Good campaign
Balanced
SpOPS
Weapon Skins
More armor than ever before
I still miss Firefight though.
