Now before any of you start thinking of starting a flame war over taking this the wrong way i want you to understand what im trying to say. If this is too long then dont read because this is mainly for the devs but yuo can read it too if you want. Halo Reach’s ban hammer was rated the worst ban hammer. it was way too strict it got people to stop playing MP completely in fear they might do something wrong because there were way too many rules to follow. and on the furom people would say “No you deserved it” without looking and if they had theyd see it was unfair banning because the banhammer was so strict almost everything was considered boosting.
“Almost 80%” of all the people that got HR “the day it released” have received at least one ban hammer penalty. Im not talking about the quitting one which will never get you perma banned. that doesn’t matter but the quitting ban hammer should be removed since people agree the new rank and level system should work like halo 3s leveling so it should be removed. ex http://halo.xbox.com/Forums/yaf_postst46309_Skill--Rank--Experience--Credits--click-for-more.aspx but mainly mine i posted http://halo.xbox.com/Forums/yaf_postst49143_Ranking-and-level-system-from-Halo-4.aspx which is same guidelines but simpler for people to understand.
I want a simple ban hammer were it bans people that hack the game to win matches, but not people that play or create modded lobbies where no one is ranking up they are just playing on fun maps and they aren’t gaining anything out of it and kick players if they are AFK for too long instead of giving them a ban and don’t give them points if they don’t get any kills. Also if you go with my ranking system there will be no need for worries about boosting so that won’t be need unless they figure out a huge exploit.
Simple as that. You only get banned if you hack to benefit yourself or if you find a way to boost that is of great problems. But since you can receive the max rank in 4 months there shouldn’t be any boosting to worry about. Also if you go with a 3 strict policy, only on boosters, hackers get instant ban, you have to go 4 months without boosting again to go down one mark so if you are at 2nd strike you go back down to strike 1.
The problem with HR ban hammer was it was way too strict. It gave you the 3 strike policy. 1st time a week 2nd time a month and 3rd time rest. It seemed so fine until you got banned just for accidently falling asleep. yes this would happen and people were very angry to find out they got banned because they either passed out playing some much for trying to achieve inheritor or they went to get a drink or use the restroom to come back banned. I had received 2 bans both of which were unjust and bungie and 343 said they can’t fix the problem and now i have to deal with the unfair bans. one time for having 2 friends over playing guests and because i decided to kill them when they were AFK yet in halo 2 if you did this no one cared but because people made it such a big deal that I get then I though quitting a match even in FF solo would get me a 15 min ban but they got rid of it without me knowing so I would kill myself to end the game faster so I could get the map that I wanted. But instead somehow even though you get almost no points at all it still was counted as boosting and I got an apology from 343 but I don’t want another apology I want these issues fixed so no one receive the stressful problems I had to experience playing in HR.
Seriously I want it to go back to the good old days like Halo 2 where people want to get on and play and have fun without fearing they are going to accidently get ban hammered. To 2x get ban hammered both times getting a sorry with the several problem we are encountering with our ban hammer and there is nothing we can do to fix excuse it just wrong. As an original Halo fan I feel we have fallen from our roots from being a laid back enjoyable game to a “U PLAY THIS WAY OR IMA BAN U MOTHER****” policy. Let’s go back to having fun where we don’t fear if we kill a guest that we are instantly a booster but someone else can kill him and get points off of him. And get rid of Team killing because it’s not promoting TW and awareness. People are running into teammate’s sniper rifle fire so he gets killed then kicked and then a 15 min ban. Yes it sounds totally unfair and that’s why Friendly Fire must go too or must receive no ban. And as we say with grifball and zombies with no ban hammer but FF we got nothing but BS matches. So remove FF and we solve that problem too.
Thanks for taking your time to read 343 devs and I know this wasn’t long to read so no complaints please.

Strict banhammers equal fair play in multiplayer. But they do need to announce anything that is bannable, including afking, overactive betraying, and cheating.

they did.

I mean, they have to continue doing it throughout Halo 4.
they need a stricter, stronger hammer if you ask me. cheaters are still running rampant in reach.

nope they werent specific at all. they said if you quit any matchamking game too many times you get time out ban and they is a smaller post way back it say “except score attack” so they made me kill myself to get out because i was afraid of the 15 min bad so instead i got an actual strike from something that didnt even get me any points so i wasnt boosting which there for makes the system broken with too many rules to follow and as an original halo fan i want to play from fun i don’t like rules nor does any true original fan. play and relax > Play this way or ima ban youuuuu policy
> they need a stricter, stronger hammer if you ask me. cheaters are still running rampant in reach.
there running rampant because the ranking is a joke. fixing the ranking you fix the cheating. god has anyone learned from the prohibition making stricter rules never works.
> Strict banhammers equal fair play in multiplayer. But they do need to announce anything that is bannable, including afking, overactive betraying, and cheating.
why do they have to be banned for afking rather then just remove them from the game? see you have to think it through before you want another horrible halo reach 2 game to come out.
> they need a stricter, stronger hammer if you ask me. cheaters are still running rampant in reach.
I doubt very much that you’ve encountered someone who was genuinely cheating, they are incredibly rare in Halo, because of formentioned banhammer. Only like, one in a million games would anyone encounter a cheater in Reach.

afking is cheating, it’s basically on the same level as using mods to get a higher rank/more armor. You’re trying to reap rewards without putting in the work which is cheating. Keep in mind you would have to afk A LOT to actually get caught, like several games straight. Plus it should just be common sense that afking for those periods of time for the sake of “ranking up” is wrong.

i used the term cheater loosely there, what i was referring to is anyone purposely trying to wreck the experience for other players.
regardless of whether they see benefit.

clearly you havent play halo reach firefight enough to know they need big changes. i ran into a guy once at the beginning and again a couple months and now he is an inheritor i think and all he does is kill the bare min and hides and pre=sets controlle to walk into wall so he cant get killed and they never got to him ever. they need to fix ranking not make banning stricter to the point no one wants to by halo because they will have wasted $60 for nothing untimately killing halo off for good so that only little kids play it because they buy anything and all the true halo fans like me give up on halo and be written down in the book how halo collapsed and only a few like me saw how it was falling apart but no one would listen.

clearly you still failed to answer the question “why ban rather then kick them from the game where they get no points at all?” why are you making it so hard. I have fallen asleep playing after coming back from college up late and i feel asleep i am so totally cheating right? people come on common sense please. think it through

yes and if they fix the ranking system they wont need a strict banhammer system you have to think long term. Thats what i notice about you guys you don’t think everything through and then it turns into this mess call halo reach. i want halo 4 to fix ranking and so they fix it so there is no need for a strict ban hammer. problem is you guys have gotten cared awaywwith the ban hammer and you’re banning everyone left and right. if you want that ban hammer stay in reach or there need to be a an addition where if you dont get into any trouble for 4 months straight you go down a strike there for people feel less stressed out and can relax. and also be balanced.

and then i remembered I’m not on the reach forum.
I’m sorry you’re completely right, the ranking system should come first, and honestly reach’s system is terrible.
but i still say that we will need a stricter and over all better hammer for halo 4 to handle what problems remain, its a blatant fact that people are going to exploit everything they can to there benefit.
what exploitations are good or bad for the experience is up to the people at 343 to decide. and hopefully they do it well.

So, so wrong. Cheaters were a far larger problem in Halo 2 and 3 than in Reach. A strict ban-hammer is the way to handle things.

since i feel 343 is not ready for such a big task and wont handle it we like they did with halo wars having changed there ranking system 3 times i think its safe to to say we need a lest strict system and make a ranking system that is easy to understand and is like halo 2 and 3 where it doesnt take nore then 4 months to reach max rank but the level always goes up and down so you can be completely finished like halo 3 in less then 4 months causually play.
A strict ban hammer is going to get way too many people banned too easily for not doing anything wrong and halo reach’s strict ban hammer has scared away too many people. this is a videogame we want people to have fun not a strict play that doesnt feel fun at all. if they fix ranking and leveling they won’t need to ban hammer at all. Halo 2 didnt have one unless you hacked to win a game that was it. Halo 3 was a little too much ban but reach is out of control.
It needs to be a little bit more then halo 2. In order to understand boosting you have to go into deep throught rather then the stereotype “every booster is little kid that can’t play” which is way false. i think personally there should be a button at start that says i want to play normal and another says im here for machinima and i get everything unlocked. Know you see eveyone would click the machinimas because they want to be done and if they have to boost they will so if we made a ranking system to unlock everything that was possible to do by yourself in 4 months or so we wouldnt see boosting problems. but some devs want addictiveness that ruin great games like halo where they instead of playing halo because it fun you they make it -Yoink- and you’re playing to unlock stuff and once ur done you leave the game forever.
Look at halo 2 it was the most popular game around and yet other game tried to for unlocks but halo 2 took more though process by devs that that game won. but now every game is dont it its causing boosting on a drastic scale. fix the ranking and unlocking and you fix the boosting.
sorry for long reply
