Its pretty much 99.9%rec that the next xbox is being revealed at this years e3. And all signs are pointing for an xmas 2013 release and this is agreed on by analyists (though it could be the following xmas but they wouldnt have such a long gap as it would slow down xbox sales).
Also its highly likely that Halo 5 is a launch title for the next xbox…so its not a long stretch to expect halo 5 to be in 2013.
This is all hypothetical using the info available but it would explain why 343i have been quiet and slow to do much with halo 4 -> they are full steam into halo 5 and may even show it at E3.
Feel free to disagree with me as its just a point really, but can anyone name any AAA titles launching Between Summer and 2014? Normally they are announced further in advance than this.
PS: If this is locked itll prove im right for wearing my tin foil hat
Xmas 2013? What? Isn’t that waaaaay to early? I mean there is still GTA IV and so on. Wouldn’t that be pretty dumb if they released a game like that if a new console is just around the corner?

San Andreas came on the xbox in June 2005, just 5 months before the 360
Like i say its my speculation based on the articles ive read. I mean why would you announce a new console not to be releasing it for over a year? I would crush 360 sales on the spot.
Personally I feel that would be a dumb move by Microsoft on releasing a new console in 2013. The 360 is still selling strongly. I can see it being announced in 2013 but not releasing till 2014 with halo 5 being attached as the first round of next gen games to sell with it on release.
-Yoink!- can’t release much later then SONY, and SONY are looking to move on from the PS3, if SONY get the jump on -Yoink!- they have a chance to get a good market share and alot of momentum.
Halo 5 will definitely be on the nextbox but I’m not expecting it to be a launch title. The main trilogy had about 3 years between games. Reach (while not a “main” game IMO) also came 3 years after Halo 3 and softened the 5 year wait from Halo 3 to Halo 4. Because it’s the start of a new trilogy, I’m expecting 343i to follow the ‘Next main game in 3 years’ pattern used by Bungie.
Then again, 343i might try to further distance themselves from the standards set by Bungie (or they’re pushed by MS) and release Halo 5 and 6 at a faster rate to compete with yearly and/or bi-yearly shooters.
I think that Microsoft will not launch the next system with Halo. It’s too big a risk, they’ll probably give it a year to work out a lot of the kinks with the new platform before releasing their cash cow.
Some good points, i do think 2013 is too early myself, but i also can see it happening. E3 this year will see the PS4 and Xbox (Infinity?). Xbox will also probably want to launch first like this gen to gain a lead on units sold.
Also all of the map packs for halo 4 are being released in a 6month window. Then what? SR130 doesnt take long and theres no word on them extending it past that.
Alot of Halo4 was outsourced -> 343 working on halo 5 for a substantial period of time already?
> Alot of Halo4 was outsourced -> 343 working on halo 5 for a substantial period of time already?
It was outsourced in the sense that Certain Affinity made some of the multiplayer maps in much the same way that they also contributed to Halo 3 and Halo Reach DLC. I can’t see how that would allow 343 to churn out Halo 5 a year after Halo 4 shipped (or why Microsoft would even want to risk “Rock Banding” their biggest franchise. 2013 just doesn’t seem the year for any big Halo releases, even an ODST like retail expansion which will either screw the next GOW or whatever Shooter the Nextbox tries to sell…not an FPS Halo at any rate.)

they can’t announce a game when the console hasn’t been announced yet. i’m sure developers would have hell to pay if they announced games for the next xbox before -Yoink!- even revealed the system.
Also, Halo 3 wasn’t a launch title for the 360. i rememeber playing halo 2 on my 360 for what seemed like forever before h3 came out.
I’d rather see 343i take their time with Halo 5 and really make improvements based on everything people didn’t like about Halo 4. and there is a lot of room for improvement.

It wouldn’t be a dumb move, not everyone buys a new system as soon as it is released.
