Halo 4 XP Cap... Lets Get Some Answers.

Who’s bright idea was this one??

First off, let me introduce myself.
I am Dreamscape and i’ve been playing halo since the first one came out over 10 years ago. so i’m not just another person ranting over something they don’t like.

I understand most all the reasons for having such a cap… but it seems like the reasons for not having one severely outweigh the reasons for having one.

As a community lets see if we can list them all out with trying to be unbiased and send a message to 343I that the cap as a whole is a bad idea and is lessening the experience of halo 4’s multiplayer.

Let [+] denote supporting points to remove cap and [-] denote an opposing point to keep the cap

Reasons to Keep the Cap:

  1. “The daily XP cap is intended to preserve the integrity of the progression system, In other words, it’s in place to provide an early gate from players running amok in their progression.” - this is a quote straight from 343I which is there sole explanation for the XP cap.

[-] This is a good thing because you don’t want everyone to be the max cap within a month of the release of the game and running around with the best weapons right?

[+] I don’t this this is really relevant because most everyone will have already unlocked most of their favorite weapons by lvl 30 and have all standard armor unlocked by 50. i believe that the progression system has that much integrity to begin with. we’ve all been there to where we’ve jumped into a war games lobby and scrolled instantly to the highest level person in awe of their armor and stance. at the end of the game though this person will typically be found at the bottom of the scoreboard with 3 kills and 17 deaths. so the progression system has little to no reflection on the person… just how cool they look.

Well i can’t really think of any other reasons to keep it…

Reasons to Remove / Alter the Cap:

  1. Can’t really catch up to those who are a high rank.

[+] This is rather lame because i’m in a competition with a couple of my friends to see who will be the highest rank after a month. they’re able to play most every day and hit the XP cap all the time with me only being able to play on the weekends. with the XP cap in place i will never be able to catch up to them unless they stop playing entirely. looks like i’m loosing this one even though i am the better player >.>

[-] I guess this can be a good thing because you don’t want your friend who is a new guy on halo 4 to be the same rank as you within a couple of days time.

  1. Reached cap too fast with double XP.

[+] My best friend bough me a good amount of Mountain Dew / Doritos products and i have a bunch of double XP. so after about 2 hours of seriously playing I’ve hit the cap and i’m locked out of getting XP for the day. The cap should be removed because it makes this double XP kinda worthless because your limited by the cap. so instead of buying codes you could just play for 4 hours and still have the same amount of experience at the end of the day as someone who has the double XP. this is rather unfair because you payed for the codes so that way you can get ahead of the average person when it doesn’t even do that.

[-] The XP cap should stay because it evens up the game with those who have bonus XP and those who don’t

  1. Can’t get XP from challenges / commendations.

[+] I find this particularly annoying because once you hit the xp cap you gain any more XP from challenges or commendations. This makes playing the game kinda useless because you loose that experience from anything you achieve, which would be extremely unfortunate if you lost the XP from completing a monthly challenge just because you had previously hit your XP cap =( i think that if anything the daily cap should only block the XP from playing matches and not the XP from challenges / commendations. with this being said, once you hit the cap most people won’t want to continue playing out of the common knowledge of wasting potential experience from challenges and commendations (not to mention just gaining XP from playing matches).

[-] They shouldn’t get any more experience because once they hit the cap they shouldn’t be allowed to earn anymore experience for a full day. the XP cap doesn’t stop people from playing and fully enjoying the game. it just stops them from earning experience. so they should just stop complaining and just play the game

  1. Sometimes people only have one day to play.

[+] Well… for me and i’m sure for a good amount of other people we are busy during the week with school, work, family, etc… which only leaves Saturday and / or Sunday to play. so after a couple of hours of intense Halo’ing your locked out of getting XP for the rest of your day (which in my case ruined my Saturday). if we were able to play every single day then the cap wouldn’t be all that bad but for those of us who are already limited by our life this cap proves to be exceptionally bad.

[-] It’s not 343’s fault if people can only play the game during a certain time period. if you can’t play then you shouldn’t be getting XP.

Everyone, if i missed something or you feel like you want to add something or voice your opinion please feel free to reply to my post because at the end of the day it should be about us and what we want to do in out game (within reason).

Conclusion:

The xp cap should at least be altered so that way not so many people would be hitting it. i know that halo, in the past, has had caps on their credits. even with this being true i have spend weekends and full days playing reach with never even hitting the credit cap, so i’m sorry if i seem a little annoyed with hitting the cap 2 days in a row. One potential solution would be to still allow for XP to be earned through challenges / commendations to still give people somewhat of an incentive to keep playing Halo instead of switching to black ops or something silly like that… ideally i believe that this cap should be removed because of all the above reasons, but we have to take things one step at a time…

Until then i’ll probably be playing MineCraft till my cap is lifted…

Later Everyone, Dreamscape Out.

They should at least make it higher, like maybe 300k from the current 150k

I don’t know what the current cap is but if I’m hitting it then it needs to be altered. This is ridiculous. I’ve hit it multiple times as to in Reach I have only hit it once to this day.

Agree, remove the cap. Or at least double the cap size.

The cap makes the pioneer specialisation useless… Don’t forget that lol

I hit it today. It’s 100k.

I agree with you in many of your reasonings, but hear me out. If you hit the cap every day for several weeks you will be max level. I do this, and I have a busy schedule, so if it was lifted I would be there even faster.

For this, I understand why 343 would have a cap. TBH, most players don’t play as much as I do, and are therefore not avid halo players. They might not have experienced hitting the cap. This is the pace that 343 feels is necesarry to keep them interested in playing the game.

Be happy it is not reach, where you will have to play years just to get that sacred haunted helmet, long after people have stopped playing.

This pace is more than adequate to fit the schedules of regular players, allowing them to attain reasonably high levels with the cap and same for those who attend the game occasionally.

I mean, so far, I have seen many players in their high 70s.

Let me know if you see any flaws in my reasoning.

yeah i agree with you about getting to the max level eventually.

for me that’s not really the problem. the worst thing is that once you hit the cap you loose any xp gained from commendations / challenges which just wastes that experience. with that being said once i hit the cap it forces me to stop playing the game even though i want to keep playing.

if they made it to where you at least got the commendation xp and challenge xp then i bet a good handful of people would still probably play after hitting the xp cap.

I buy mtn dew, but now I get a bouns in halo for doing it. Its a win-win. And I already hit my 2xp match limit for the caps so if any one wants some codes PM me.

You don’t have to worry about that though. Listen, if you are hitting the cap, then that extra xp is worthless. I only care about the armor unlocks from those commendations anyway, and you should too.

In all fairness, I have only just picked up the Halo scene since I’ve spent most of my time on Mw3 and Black ops which both don’t have an XP cap and every time I hit my XP cap I lose the urge to play Halo, It really would be nice if 343 did raise the level cap to about 300,000 XP because gaining about 2 levels in a few hours and then not being able to play to level up gets annoying after a while.

> The cap makes the pioneer specialisation useless… Don’t forget that lol

Not really, I don’t have time over the week to play as much as I do on the weekends and even then I don’t play enough Spartan Ops to hit the cap. And dear god I’m not ever going to play enough war games to hit it. That’s just too many per day for me.

So the pioneer spec is useful to people who don’t play as much as some people do on these boards.

I war games my exp… And the caps just does t do… I enjoy my days off hitting late nights on halo then find I have to wait 10hrs until the cap is refreshed…

and now theres this stupid rank cap at 70 for people that didnt get limited edition. ive been playing for a week now, unlocking challenges and earning so many commendation bonuses and theyre all going down the drain. how rotten for them to have included the double xp gig. does 343 really want us to play halo anymore cuz frankly its really the only game i like and ill be -Yoink!- if i am gonna have to start playing COD as religiously

Double the cap
