Who’s bright idea was this one??
First off, let me introduce myself.
I am Dreamscape and i’ve been playing halo since the first one came out over 10 years ago. so i’m not just another person ranting over something they don’t like.
I understand most all the reasons for having such a cap… but it seems like the reasons for not having one severely outweigh the reasons for having one.
As a community lets see if we can list them all out with trying to be unbiased and send a message to 343I that the cap as a whole is a bad idea and is lessening the experience of halo 4’s multiplayer.
Let [+] denote supporting points to remove cap and [-] denote an opposing point to keep the cap
Reasons to Keep the Cap:
- “The daily XP cap is intended to preserve the integrity of the progression system, In other words, it’s in place to provide an early gate from players running amok in their progression.” - this is a quote straight from 343I which is there sole explanation for the XP cap.
[-] This is a good thing because you don’t want everyone to be the max cap within a month of the release of the game and running around with the best weapons right?
[+] I don’t this this is really relevant because most everyone will have already unlocked most of their favorite weapons by lvl 30 and have all standard armor unlocked by 50. i believe that the progression system has that much integrity to begin with. we’ve all been there to where we’ve jumped into a war games lobby and scrolled instantly to the highest level person in awe of their armor and stance. at the end of the game though this person will typically be found at the bottom of the scoreboard with 3 kills and 17 deaths. so the progression system has little to no reflection on the person… just how cool they look.
Well i can’t really think of any other reasons to keep it…
Reasons to Remove / Alter the Cap:
- Can’t really catch up to those who are a high rank.
[+] This is rather lame because i’m in a competition with a couple of my friends to see who will be the highest rank after a month. they’re able to play most every day and hit the XP cap all the time with me only being able to play on the weekends. with the XP cap in place i will never be able to catch up to them unless they stop playing entirely. looks like i’m loosing this one even though i am the better player >.>
[-] I guess this can be a good thing because you don’t want your friend who is a new guy on halo 4 to be the same rank as you within a couple of days time.
- Reached cap too fast with double XP.
[+] My best friend bough me a good amount of Mountain Dew / Doritos products and i have a bunch of double XP. so after about 2 hours of seriously playing I’ve hit the cap and i’m locked out of getting XP for the day. The cap should be removed because it makes this double XP kinda worthless because your limited by the cap. so instead of buying codes you could just play for 4 hours and still have the same amount of experience at the end of the day as someone who has the double XP. this is rather unfair because you payed for the codes so that way you can get ahead of the average person when it doesn’t even do that.
[-] The XP cap should stay because it evens up the game with those who have bonus XP and those who don’t
- Can’t get XP from challenges / commendations.
[+] I find this particularly annoying because once you hit the xp cap you gain any more XP from challenges or commendations. This makes playing the game kinda useless because you loose that experience from anything you achieve, which would be extremely unfortunate if you lost the XP from completing a monthly challenge just because you had previously hit your XP cap =( i think that if anything the daily cap should only block the XP from playing matches and not the XP from challenges / commendations. with this being said, once you hit the cap most people won’t want to continue playing out of the common knowledge of wasting potential experience from challenges and commendations (not to mention just gaining XP from playing matches).
[-] They shouldn’t get any more experience because once they hit the cap they shouldn’t be allowed to earn anymore experience for a full day. the XP cap doesn’t stop people from playing and fully enjoying the game. it just stops them from earning experience. so they should just stop complaining and just play the game
- Sometimes people only have one day to play.
[+] Well… for me and i’m sure for a good amount of other people we are busy during the week with school, work, family, etc… which only leaves Saturday and / or Sunday to play. so after a couple of hours of intense Halo’ing your locked out of getting XP for the rest of your day (which in my case ruined my Saturday). if we were able to play every single day then the cap wouldn’t be all that bad but for those of us who are already limited by our life this cap proves to be exceptionally bad.
[-] It’s not 343’s fault if people can only play the game during a certain time period. if you can’t play then you shouldn’t be getting XP.
Everyone, if i missed something or you feel like you want to add something or voice your opinion please feel free to reply to my post because at the end of the day it should be about us and what we want to do in out game (within reason).
Conclusion:
The xp cap should at least be altered so that way not so many people would be hitting it. i know that halo, in the past, has had caps on their credits. even with this being true i have spend weekends and full days playing reach with never even hitting the credit cap, so i’m sorry if i seem a little annoyed with hitting the cap 2 days in a row. One potential solution would be to still allow for XP to be earned through challenges / commendations to still give people somewhat of an incentive to keep playing Halo instead of switching to black ops or something silly like that… ideally i believe that this cap should be removed because of all the above reasons, but we have to take things one step at a time…
Until then i’ll probably be playing MineCraft till my cap is lifted…
Later Everyone, Dreamscape Out.
