Halo 4, Worst Multiplayer Ever?

Ok, now that I got your attention, lets try to have a logical and civil conversation/debate on what I am about to say. I’m going to try to present what I have found SO FAR (AKA for now/until they release some patches) about the H4 multiplayer in the best way possible so that hopefully there is less ignorance when it comes to replies, etc. I am going to be talking in terms of overall feel of the gameplay, and how it relates to the gamer experience, which in this case is not very good so far for me.

Background about me:

Played a bit of halo 3 but didnt really know what I was doing. When Reach came out I decided to get more serious about it. Got good enough that I was able to maintain a 1.5 k/d in TS, 1.1 K/d in MLG, and 1.6 K/d with 80% W/L ratio in FFA. (AKA im not a bad player complaining cause im bad). I preordered halo 4 LE when it was announced and had been advocating for it for the duration of the prerelease period. Sadly, I was slightly proven wrong.

Main reasons why I dislike (borderline hate) Halo 4’s multiplayer so far:

  • Instant Respawns -

At first this seems like an alright idea cause it speeds up gameplay by minimizing downtime, but in reality for the most part, this creates broken gameplay in MOST gametypes. (excluding BTB, Swat, FFA to an extent) The reason why it ruins the game for me is because there is no reward to doing well. I will put up a 22-12 KD game and still feel crappy about it. That is because during the game there is no pause in the battle making it seem like when you die, what you just did didn’t mean anything (aka death’s are emphasized = not fun). Because of this I can go 32-5 and will remember my deaths significantly better than the past 32 people I killed. This leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth after every game.

  • Balanced Weapons -

Again, this is what people want right? A balanced game? Well, sort of. For the most part 343 has done a good job of making the weapons fit in the game. However there are two exceptions I have found to be rather annoying, and Im sure it will become more prevalent as more people become corrupt. First off the Assault Rifle. Essentially it is the most noob friendly weapon of the game as everyone has access to it. The problem I have with it is it currently has too big of a range for the role it is supposed to fill, a close range spray and pray role. The problem I have with it is that kills just as fast at mid range as a br/dmr, which doesnt allow the other person using a skilled weapon time to defend himself. This is extremely frustrating as it takes away the advantage of being able to use a skilled weapon. In my opinion the AR should never be able to beat a skilled weapon (perfect 5 shot) regardless of range, it should come close but the better player should win. By removing this skill gap essentially takes away the halo aspect of this game and just makes it cod (sorry I had to).
The other weapon that is really annoying, is the boltshot. Now the idea of making it a charged up shotgun is pretty cool, but the range it currently has just promotes camping. I noticed this a lot more on close quarters maps such as adrift, where all one team does is hide in a hallway with a bunch of nades, PV, and a overcharged boltshot. Not much fun.

  • Regicide -

This one is fairly self-explanatory if you have played in this playlist. All I need to say for this one is that I have lost two games (I hate losing FFA games) when I have out slayed the person in first. I realize that this is an objective gametype, but even in objective gametypes there is a certain extent to which you have to slay well… Also because the king is the top slayer (typically) it gives a disadvantage to the better players right off the bat simply because a king can not kill himself to collect his own bounty. By making it a disadvantage to be the king, it promotes poor play until the end where you kill the king a couple times to get the bounty and win. This broken gameplay is frustrating for players who are constantly the king as they lose the crown right at the end of the game from people who exploit the system. For me there would be two main ways to fix this rattling gametype. 1. Make it so there is no bounty for killing the king, but still have the waypoint just to make things interesting. 2. Add in normal ffa to the playlist to offset that way regicide is just a gametype to mix it up in ffa.Alright, I am done for now. If 343 adjusts some of this stuff I will gladly change my opinion about this game. But currently I am debating on not playing this game and going back to H3 or even reach (if anyone still plays it :stuck_out_tongue: ) because even if I do statistically well in a game, it is not an enjoyable experience.

What do you guys think?

Another one I just thought of:

  • Not being unscoped -

Having this in the game just makes it so that almost any battles where one person gets surprised by another will almost always lose the long range battle. Because of this it makes a sense of hopelessness on maps like complex where there is limited cover and long sight lines. Either the recoil needs to be bumped up or 343 needs to bring back getting unscoped.

Sorry you don’t like the game. There are some issues I believe need fixed. (DMR needs a slight RoF decrease). But other than that, I’m having more fun with this game then post-launch Halo 2 and that was a highlight of my Halo Fan-ism =]

What makes this game fun for you?

For me, if I am going to have to slay 30 noobs in a game, I better not die which is surprisingly inevitable because of the instant respawns.

No.

That is all.

I totally agree about instant respawns. that, killcams, and join in progress are what piss me off the most about the game because they are simply unneeded in halo and getting rid of them set halo apart from other games.

Insta spawn- everytime I die it doesnt feel like I did, nor do I really learn from my deaths. I look at my k/d ratio and I don’t really feel accomplished. yea, I have over a hundred more kills than deaths but I feel as if the amount of deaths would be vastly decreased if they took out insta spawn, I find my self dying 30 times in one game, and I think it’s ridiculous.

The moment I get a sick triple/double kill those 2/3 people I killed pluse their buddies come and horde me about 2 seconds later, killing my chances to recover and find some ammo etc. I can’t even go to find cover after a large firefight because I am being rushed by the same guys a killed literally a couple seconds ago. Even getting revenge kills is no longer satisfying because it is so easy to die, respawn, and then go after them again, without much effort. Skilled players don’t look as good as they really are even when going against noobs cause they can get killed so easily with this new “faster paced gameplay” which breaks the game IMO, I get killed multiple times by my friends who just started the game, while I would rape them in Reach and 3, it’s not right.

Killcams are broken and I don’t feel like watching myslef die all the time, they are unneeded and un-halo. They are only good for strategic purposes once in a while and don’t need to be in every gametype, (especially swat)

Join in progress - do I even need to explain? I hate starting matches with 1 or more/less players than the other team. Heck, one time it even started a BTB match with only 3 players (just me on my team, 2 on the other)

other wise Halo MP is the best yet, totally amazing I give it an 8/10 only negatives are the ones I listed, god I hate insta-spawn

No.

And also, you’re welcome. Not like many people will care to legitimately read and take in the words of another hater. This forum is filled with them.

Nope.
For me, Halo 4 is the most fun I’ve had playing Halo mp in the longest time. Easily on par with Halo 2 mp.

The Assault Rifle is not overpowered.

One the reason u hate regicide in my opinion is not a good enough reason to make it a negative. The game mode is a FFA objective game type. U get more points for completing the objective. If u don’t like it don’t play it. It the coming weeks they will be adding and subtracting to the game modes so don’t make a full opinion yet. And I have never been beaten by and AR in a 1v1 battle so I don’t believe that negative will wrk as a negative for the whole multiplayer.

The only point that u have that would actually work would be instant respawn and even than it depends on the map.

To be honest, TC, you care about your k/d ratio far too much for me too care about your opinion.

The title of this thread reminds me of the comic book guy from the Simpsons. Which of course is a parody of classic nerd rage and overreaction.

In my opinion, WE(the players) ruin games such as halo. Why? I try to play online and I ALWAYS get put into a game where they’re campers or boosters. It’s because we make halo more as a competitive game, rather than having fun. I remembered the first time halo 3 came out. No one cared for their ‘k/D’ or if they’re winning etc. We should play custom games for old halo 3 sake!

But at the same time it isnt really an objective gametype. For someone like me, I like to have the lead for the entire game because I can. But with regicide it punishes people who slay well and promotes people to randomly charge the guy with the thing above his head. And it wasnt just FFA that I didnt like, it is the gameplay in general.
I thought I mentioned that this wasnt a full opinion yet, it was in my head I must have just not put it down in my original post, sorry :P. I guess for me with the AR there should be some breathing room in terms of being caught off guard with my dmr and still be able to take them down to a one shot or even kill them if they miss a bit. but currently I barely have time to turn and shoot let alone get 3-5 shots in them.

I stopped reading after I saw I saw “The assault rifle is too over powered.” Holy -Yoink- man… There hasn’t been a primary weapon that hasn’t been called over powered

Where in all of this did I say my K/d was important? I was just posting those stats so people couldnt come in and say, “this guy is complaining because he is bad and can’t kill anyone”
I care more about winning than how I do K/d wise.

> I stopped reading after I saw I saw “The assault rifle is too over powered.” Holy -Yoink!- man… There hasn’t been a primary weapon that hasn’t been called over powered

True, all the weapons do kill pretty fast, but the AR shouldnt come close to what the skilled weapons kill times are. That was what I was trying to get across, and I changed my wording so people dont get caught up in the term OP.

Its worse than Reach’s, so yes it is the worst multiplayer yet. I play to compete-having fun is a bonus. I prefer the “old” halo gameplay like in Halo 3, which happened to be my 2nd favorite game of all time(1st was Age of Empires series growing up).

The AR is not OverPowered. I think you are just biased against it because it can be easier to use than a precision rifle. I am currently leaning towards the opinion of it being underpowered at the moment. The chances of beating an AR with a BR at medium range should be equal IMO, so long as the player is able to control the recoil/bloom of the weapon.
