I know I will lose out on some visual details because I am connecting via VGA(720p) and not HDMI(1080p). Any other downside you guys can see? I am debating on whether or not to buy the Halo 4 edition Xbox. Thanks for the help
Well don’t take my word for it but I think I remember reading somewhere that Halo runs in 720 anyway and not 1080. But I’m sure someone will confirm or deny that.
Actually HDMI on an HD TV make a huge visual difference.
But I’d wait to drop that kind of money since visuals =/= gameplay. Also with the new xbox coming likely with a year you shouldn’t get another one anyways.
I noticed some lag while playing Halo Reach campaign, my crazy mind created this equation VGA=Graphics Not as nice+ Screen Lag
HDMI=-Yoink!- solve for -Yoink!-

Were you playing online co-op or solo?

It doesn’t make a difference on a screen that is just 720p.
The only reason it makes a difference is because otherwise the TV has to do the scaling. Whereas on a 1080p screen with HDMI the Xbox does all of the scaling and the Xbox scales an image to a larger size to the 1080p.
But for the best experience this generation of gaming it would be a 720p IPS screen with a high pixel density.
There is lag with the checkpoints, and Reach made checkpoints even if you stood in the same area for extended periods. Not sure if the other games did that…
On that mission there are a lot of vehicles, so that could attribute towards some screen lag. My Reach is installed on my HDD so I don’t think I get much lag, and even if I do I don’t notice it. Sorry if this isn’t helpful.

The connection method, HDMI vs. VGA, has far less variability in lag as the type of display you are using for your Xbox. The difference in lag between HDMI and VGA is marginal compared to the differences in lag you will experience between different displays, such as good Asus monitor versus a 50 inch LCD.

I have a 22 inch ASUS monitor with a 2ms response time. I believe it was the monitor MLG used during the first season of Reach but dont quote me on that.
Ukkomyrsky is probably right, it was the loading of all the vehicles.
I just want to make sure there is no downside to a GEN1 box when H4 comes out

Apart from not being able to use the Xbox for 1080p scaling and little features like turning on the xbox turns on the tv as well, no disadvantages as at all.

If you play on a 1080p TV, with HMDI and 1080p the Xbox does the upscaling, whilst with VGA at 720p the TV has to do the scaling. The Xbox is much faster at scaling the image than a TV, therefore the HDMI produces less lag (if the image needs to be scaled). Although, I was unaware that VGA on Xbox couldn’t use the 1080p mode. As far as I know, VGA cables can carry 1080p signals.

You don’t know that for sure though. It could be two years if they wanted. Idk with that new “slim” ps3 that came out, I find it highly unlikely hat either company is gonna let out a next gen console in the next year
> VGA provides optimal Video Resolution, and due to straight analog color, lower video delay. In fact, VGA can carry resolutions higher than “1080p”.

Still if his old one is running fine it would just be a waste of money.
