Halo 4 wishlist. Please contribute

As Halo 4 approaches many fans, including myself, begin to anticipate what editions will be made to the game series. This is my personal wants and desires from the forthcoming title, and I hope that you will share your opinions, concerns, comments, and ideas with me, whether positive or negative. I have condensed my ideas for the sake of having enough room to post, but these are by no means all of my ideas and I will most likely post more. Please converse on these and other ideas.

The idea of BR vs DMR has been a well argued conflict by individuals who support both sides of the argument. Myself being a die hard fan of Halo 2, which had the best multiplayer of the series, tend to favor the BR from this game. However, I will admit that the 3 shot burst is a bit troublesome and somewhat wild. Obviously, I do not mean to say that the 3 shots fired from the burst spray in different directions, but they are less precise that the 1 shot counter part of the DMR. I propose that a new type of Battle Rifle be implemented into Halo 4 to solve this problem. The new weapon should contain a 16 round clip, similar to the DMR, and should be capable of killing an enemy player with 4 shots, the forth being a head shot, and 6 normal body shots. This would balance the BR, giving it the ability to kill 4 players before reloading; removing the somewhat wild 3 burst that promotes “b.s.” kills, while still remaining faithful to the original idea of the weapon. This weapon should have the 3x zoom functionality that the DMR possesses, but should have the BR reticule for easier and more understandable aiming. As a side note, the pistol should have a 2x zoom with a 5 headshot killing ability, with 8 body shots and should have a 12 round clip.

For players who were fond of Halo 1, many remember, and love, the original Assault Rifle. It was powerful unlike its counter parts. Since Halo 1, the Assault Rifle has never been the power horse it needs to be. I admit that the original 60 round clip might be a bit much for such a powerful and useful weapon, but there are certainly aspects of this gun that need to be re-introduced. The Assault Rifle in Halo 4 should be reminiscent of the original. The new Assault rifle should have a 48 round clip, and should be about 30 percent more accurate than the original. Other than these two additions, there should be no changes made. This weapon has been effectively abandoned as a useful weapon in previous games, although reach took it a step in the right direction. I do not wish for this weapon to be one that is spawned with, but one that is actually traded for and wanted to be used.

The addition of 32 or possibly even 64 players is also NEEDED. Having 32 players in a match with minimal lag is easy to achieve. Homefront does this easily, why can Halo not? A game type I have come up with dubbed “Fireteam Slayer”, is made up of 4 fireteams of 4 players working together to kill the opposition or accomplish goals/ objectives. Think Battlefield 3. Fireteam members would spawn together and only talk to one another unless using the press talk button. I think this is an interesting idea for Halo and could be a new and fun addition for hard core gamers. With the addition of 32 players, more transport vehicles should be implemented. I personally enjoy the idea of using a pelican to tactically insert team members where they are needed. Also bigger, yet not less intriguing, maps are needed.

Equipment / Armor abilities also need to be redesigned. All equipment should be picked up on the map in the style that Halo 3 promoted, but they need to be less dull in the style that Reach promoted. A short list of ideas I have for Tertiary equipment include:
Active Camo (Picked up and used once at any time)
Overshield
Instant power drain (Shoulder mounted weapon fired at enemy to instantly drain his or her shields, has 4 uses before running out.)
Two way mobile teleporter nodes (picked up as one unit but placed as two, allowing a two way teleportation path in any chosen locations)
Revive Device (Like battlefield’s revive paddles, used to revive teammates, or, if deployed, acts as a healing station)
Trip Mine (Stuck in the ground, much smaller but much more powerful than the Halo 3 version.)
Radar (Much more effective than past counterparts, notifies user when someone is near it.)
Sentry (Automated turret seen in the Halo 3 campaign, but far more powerful)
Deployable Turret (Halo 2’s deployable turret from campaign)
Bubble Shield
ETC

The campaign needs to be told from multiple character perspectives like Halo 2, and should be at least 15 levels long if not more.

Also, a map maker should be implemented that will be used on the computer to import maps to Halo 4

I’m sure that I have missed many of my own ideas and, like I said, I will most likely update this. So, please drop me ideas of your own and opinions on what I have posted. Thanks.

I failed to include the addition of a clan system. This, tied into the Arena from Reach, could go far. Players could form clans and smaller teams to compete with. By creating a network for these things to take place, competitions on a regional level could be fully used. Teams and clans can be rewarded for different things, and I believe this would bring back the true sense of team work which I love. Team strategies could be realized with the use of heat maps, and “drawing boards”, a tool that would be extremely helpful to Teams. Clans can go far in Halo 4, but a true sense of competition between groups must be established, and the clan system must be turned into a “sport”.

tons of new vehicles

it will make the vehicle-loving comunity very happy, as well as other as well

vehicles include:
-new warthog turrets (flamethrower,cannon ect.)
-Statinoary warthog turrets (as seen in Halo ODST
-Elephant
-Scarab (maybe)
-All the new HW vehicles
-Cobra
-locust
-gremlin
-Rhino
-Grizzly (maybe)

  • Hawk
    -Vulture
-Some kind of fast naval attack craft
-some kind of Water base, or battle ship
    -Hornets
    -the GOOD banshee

FASTER
Big Halo fan, but I’m running on fumes of the past. After ODST it was a huge bomb, and REACH had a great idea with the loadouts, but they made the gameplay experience SLOW and HEAVY. My friends and I speed the game up to about 120% and that makes playing it somewhat bearable.

MORE EPIC/OVER THE TOP
Halo’s supposed to be quick bursts of over the top action right? Why then does the Armor Lock for example feel like a led weight. And seriously ‘Sprint’. So ‘running’ is an ability? Wow - how exotic. The hologram is cool, but it’s too easy to call bluffs. Invisibility is practically useless, and the jet pack while cool - pretty much just makes you a target.

NOT MW3, NOT BATTLEFIELD, NOT GEARS…H-A-L-O!!!
Using Armor Lock you should be able to use it in mid-jump. I want to become a human canonball/EMP. That alone would re-open the Halo experience. Jet packs, why can’t we aim AT an enemy and use it as a dash? Like a mini vehicle? Halo is supposed to be this ‘seat of your pants’ ride. Halo was awesome when you could rocket an upside down Banshee and use it as a catapult. That fun and experimentation has been all but weeded out. It’s now like Halo models, on a slower, laggier COD engine. Stop competing with the other shooters and do what YOU do best. Be HALO. Make Banshees afraid of Jet Packs, not excited to shoot them as targets. More of that Paper Rock Scissors balance. Banshee’s should rock everyone UNLESS you have Jet Pack then totally flip the odds. Right now you mostly don’t care what ability someone picks. Make it VITAL to know. Let the abilities tip the scales in massive ways, and make each ability VERY fun to use.

COMBINE ABILITIES
Heck, let us combine abilities. One for each bumper. Dual wield abilities. I want to Jet pack (faster) at a vehicle, then Armor Lock, turning into a canonball. Did I mention making us into EMP canonballs? If I dash into a vehicle AND armor lock, the vehicle should explode.

GIANT ROBOTS
Also - Giant Robots to drive. MARK X suits. Giant Master Chief’s you drive. Each Leg is a pillar of autumn. The gun shoots suns and black holes. MORE OVER THE TOP PLEASE!

HALO WARS REPRESENT
Also bring in all the Halo Wars vehicles.

MAP VIEW/CHOOSE SPAWN/RESPAWN
Also add a map view. Let us pick where we spawn.

TOP K/D = TEAM LEADER
Automatically make the highest K/D ratio on team the team leader. Give them the ability to place beacons or some visual way of communicating.

CLEAR VISUAL COMMUNICATION TOOLS
Nobody uses the compass except for try-hards. “He’s by the thing, with the metal wall…I dunno”. LAME. Look at Portal 2. Genius multiplayer communication. Mimic this and have a team-leader function. Even if they suck, you’re more likely to work as a team with one person leading. Even more likely to work if that person is good at getting kills. This also keeps noobs from leading.

FRIEND/PARTY WAYPOINTS
Make your friends/party a different color waypoint.

SKILL MATCH - NO NOOBS or TRY HARDS
FIX the skill rating matches. Tired of playing with either Try-hards, or Noobs. I’m not bad, but not great. I need the middle.

SIMPLE MENUS
No more confusing menus for each map pack, disc, bleh…sucks. Just pop MW3 in till you fix this. Even theirs isn’t great but it’s simpler. When I play I’m tired. Don’t make me think.

WHERE MY MAPS AT?
I buy these map packs, then never see them in the rotation. I expect the game to sort out who does/doesn’t have the maps. Let the server regulate this. We just pick Slayer, Team Slayer, Objective, BTB, Swat, or Game type of the day. Keep it simple. Maximize our experience, don’t turn it into an easter egg hunt.

GRAV-NUKE.
A weapon that nukes the gravity on a Map for a short time. Everything floats, or you can make everything pushed in one direction for a short burst. Yes - THAT epic. This is Halo. I expect super-collider level weapons, not a lame sniper gun I can use in COD.

ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES IN MAPS
Light to dark cycles.
Avalanches.
Sand/snow storms that drift through the map periodically, blinding view.
Destructible buildings Imagine headlong that you can destroy, leaving the ground covered in rubble. Map starts out useful to travel by ground. As enough debree builds below, it’s nearly impossible and you must start using walkways above.
Meteor showers railing a space-station. Holes in the wall create air vaccums that will suck you into space if you’re too close to the wall.
Earthquakes.
Floods of water that are raising and lowering, cutting off & revealing entire sections of a map.
Periodic rains of space fire from orbit. Every 5 minutes on a map all players hear a siren and better get the crap inside before the lasers from above rain down from UNSC carriers.
Have other battles disrupt the game. Periodic aerial battles fly through the map in random directions giving scatter fire. Kind of like the train in Halo 2’s Terminal.

CLEARER CALLOUTS
In CTF it’s super confusing to tell who has what flag. “Flag taken” Ours or theirs? Oh I get it captured vs taken. eh…still who’s side is taken and who’s is captured. Please say “Enemy has your flag” “You have the enemy flag” or “Enemy flag captured”. Just be clear. I’m all for not being pulled out of the world, but a confusing game does the same and much worse.

RED DEAD COLORS
Red dead had the best team / objective waypoint colors. VERY clear. Red / Blue and Yellow for neutral. DOn’t default to Gray because it’s hard to see, and don’t default to light blue because it’s still BLUE. Confusing.

RETICLE
Please don’t make it light blue. You can’t see it when against the sky. Frustrating.

CHEST BUMPS
When you melee a team-mate from the front or side, it should make you high-five, chest bump etc.

NEW ABILITIES
Teleport - you pick where on the map to disappear and reappear.
Fortress - create a virtual wall/ramp. Like Armor lock/Bubble shield, but what it does is create a giant wide wall that anyone can walk up from the side you’re facing. Perfect for assaulting a base, and jumping warthogs over a wall. Also great for defending your base as the other side is a sheer, impenetrable wall.
Imposter - Appear with the enemy team color for a while. Your team still sees you as your own color.
Tunneler - When activated, you have a few seconds to walk a path wherever you want the tunnel to be. Where you walk leaves an imprint of some kind only your team can see so that any team members who walk in this area are invisible from view. Like a future-tech version of a tunnel in plain sight.
Disruptor - Cause all enemy Hud’s to malfunction for a while. No reticles. No health bar. Nada. Also make it fuzzy.
Supplier - Depending on charge level, call down any weapon or vehicle, dropped from above.
Juggernaut - Target a location and dash insanely fast to that location.
Grapple - Target any location, wall, vehicle. Lock on - then release. You are pulled to their location in a dash.
Vehicle - for a short time you can turn into a vehicle.
*All of these can be tempered and balanced with the timer. The more powerful the longer the re-charge.

COVENANT MORE ALIEN
Let them scale walls or something. They’re still just humans with Alien models on them. They should play very differently.

BETTER THAN FRINGE
Please don’t let Fringe have better sci-fi than Halo. UNSC should be using on a daily basis the things Fringe scientists would dream about. Make the world too powerful for its own good.

Silencers, more customization, and armor save slots.

A good, long Campaign.
A beautiful, well-organized all-inclusive soundtrack.
Halo 2 mechanics for multiplayer (without glitches).
All weapons and vehicles from previous installments in the series.
Good multiplayer maps.
A map editor!

Map Editor

More customization’s

More armour

Better weapons

Better style of art (the way the game looks)

And how could I forget the Campaign

an awesome amazing colour in depth Campaign

Gameplay that’s fun to watch.

a UDK quality level editor.

This^ except the all weapons and vehicles from previous… i want new stuff and variety, but i also want, not in order:

  1. Battle Rifle
  2. Elephant
  3. if not Elephant (better!), then at least a Transport Flying Vehicle
  4. Lowering weapons on XbL
  5. Choice of being able to play as a Spartan, Elite, and the new Sentinel walker in the concept art BUT make it like Halo 2. where it didn’t matter if you were an Elite or not
  6. Bigger armor customization (visor color template?), BUT don’t make the player models look like Reach’s. 3’s was better
  7. a Detail Amor Color choice so you still felt like the colors you choose for your player model means something in teams and you feel unique. why wasn’t this included in Reach!?
  8. and lastly, when infected in Infection, you are a Yoinking! Flood Combat Form! of some kind of form!. please! for the past two games, make it happen. how hard can it honestly be?

and there’s many more I’d like/love to have, but we can’t always have everything, right?

343 please make firefight good again! I want firefight achievements like ODST had, and I want maps designed like ODST’s whereby we’re defending a set place rather than having no defensible area like in Reach.

Should keep sprint and evade in some fashion because that should have always have been there.

  • Advanced Forge - Something like the current Forge, just with the option to add in objects, weapons, vehicles, textures, terrain, equipment, armour abilities, etc, that you created or downloaded online, using a program? You can choose not to, but it would be a possibility. This would let the people who enjoy the current Forge have even more options, without having to learn to use a program like that. The option to select if an object is destructible, plus the ability to make an object move, and also button and levers and such which can activate other objects would be nice. Maybe also a PC version of Forge for better aligning objects and stuff? This way, the possibilities would be endless. It would allow remakes to be completely accurate, with even the original weapons, vehicles, etc. The option to create a skybox on the program and setting it in-game would also be cool. I hope 343i does this, because it would make Halo amazing.

  • Advanced gametype customization - The ability to have a gametype automatically analyse a map and make it possible to choose weapons and loadouts specific to the map would be amazing. That way, if a weapon, vehicle, equipment, armour ability is on the map, you can choose whether it can be used, whether it’ll be in the game, whether it’ll be in a loadout, whether you’ll start with/in it, and many more. Then, for even further customization, one could learn the coding and code the gametype themselves.

Of course, the game has been in development for a long time, so I wouldn’t expect anything like this. It’d be cool, though.

Servers for custom games example: View custom games: Join a game or Create a game. The if click join a game it will show you a giant list of custom games with the name of the gametype, population sorta like combat evolved PC.

  1. reverance to the existing halo world. there were a lot of seemingly “single-use” things, such as the halo wars arsenal, specters, the giant sentinels from halo 2, hornets, ect. If continued creation of new thing will occur (it will, and thats good with me) but have reverance to what’s there, and have some things return.

2.sometimes, the smallest details are what makes or breaks the game. remember in halo 1, the game that started it all, when you would ramp the warthog, and the gunner would fist-pump and go “hell-ya!!”? I know i do. It was a little, unnecissary detail that added personality. remember, this isn’t just a game for everyone. I grew up with this series. let it have a personality.

3.Remember, everyone here is different. you can’t make everyone happy. you already have a strong fan-base, but it was won by hard work from your prediccessor. Don’t let this become like so many other franchises, where it loses focus. Don’t force the game, don’t make it for sales. If the game is one you and others enjoy, it will sell itself. Bungie made the original halo with practically nothing, and they tried many different ideas before they found what they liked. they did this game for the sake of making a good game, not for awards, money, or industry. that was GIVEN to them because of thier hard work, and passion for doing what they enjoyed. so my strongest request is: have fun, and we will too.

WATCH ESPN, TAKE NOTES.
In-between games is one of the deadest, buzzkills of Halo. Pretty much you sit, in silence, navigating a spread sheet of stats while you watch a list of “Searching for Player” banners cycle. Not only boring - but unengaging, and useless. This is the time when try-hards all sit and gloat over their scores, while would-be new Halo players who likely just lost, sit bored and wondering why they lost. Use this time to educate players so they don’t feel so in the dark. It’s a lot less frustrating getting killed if you at least feel you know why it happened.

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
Between games, have a screen showing highlights from the game. Don’t just show medals, use the video feature to locate where and when the medal happened, then show looping clips from different angles of that kill when you highlight the medal. Even add the ability to quickly ‘add to films’. Also include ‘Video Lowlights’, of players most humiliating deaths. If facebook can use facial recognition in photos, you can definitely figure out a way to do at least as much with the Halo Theater Engine right?

MAP REVIEWS/STUDY
In between games, add the ability to look over a diagram of each map, to study where weapons spawn, flags and other goals are etc.
When you mouse over one, have a small video clip pop up of the weapon, and how it works (see it in action). The most common complaints I hear from new players are “I was shooting him why didn’t he die?”, “I have no clue where I was”, and “Well I don’t know where the weapons are!”. A map review after each game before and after it would let players get a quick overview of the level before dropping in, and the ability to look over it afterwards to put 2 and 2 together so future games are more enjoyable, reducing the learning curve to the game.

CHESS vs EASTER EGG HUNT
Pressing the select button, pops up waypoints that shows you where weapons are (or where the should be). Storywise - consider it intel for drop points. Even add those UNSC drop boxes to where weapons should spawn. Makes more sense that way anyhow. Weapon locations are such a key component to multiplayer, and what keeps the game from simply turning into a wandering game of duck hunt, aimlessly walking around the map looking for whoever happens to be in front of you. Get the non-tryHards up to speed so they can enjoy the tactical aspects of Halo without needing to spend hours they don’t have learning the maps just so they can enjoy them. Regular players already will have an advantage in knowing the ins and outs of the terrain. At LEAST, let new players know where the weapon spawns are, and give them an overview of the map between spawns. Leaving it all to simply playing and learning it all is poor game design. The point is to PLAY the game, not LEARN where the pieces are. Would you play chess if someone hid your pieces around the house? Your turns are spent finding pieces instead of actually playing?

TEAM COLORS
Choose team colors on a map that work. Red almost always stands out more than blue, giving the red team a disadvantage. Pick two colors that complement the map and each other. Why not Blue and Green? Red and Yellow? COD/MW is the other end where it gets TOO close to tell who’s who. Somewhere in the middle would be great.

Remember that what’s new today, is old tomorrow. Halo has been successful and I want it to be great, but as a friend and fan, it’s begun to stagnate IMO. Is it an effort to be more like COD or MW? I don’t know but it should stop competing with other shooters and focus on being Halo. Don’t look at other games, and don’t even look at Halo 1. Look instead at what you were thinking when you MADE Halo 1. What were you aiming for? What was the vision for that game? Remember that point of view. Refocus on the dream, not the result. I’m sure Halo 1 even pales in comparison to what the vision for it was. Return us to THAT.

Custom controls meaning you can assign and reassign any button and action at will.

1 playable flood (combat form of elite/spartan/brute) forcustom games forge infection and fire fight alos have them play like a spartan/elite and be able to customize them as well

2 bots in custom games maybe forge but also for fire fight and have them be able to play games like CTF like in gears.

I want Halo 4. Im gonna let 343 make it how there gonna make it. All these posts about what u want halo 4 to be are just pointless, sure they are taking fans and our wants into consideration but there’s a reason they are the developers and we are just the players…

Don’t hate on this reply… cuz u just wanna make halo somethin similar to cod or battlefield or gears…

let it be halo
