I would buy maps if they coasted 100 points for 3.
Why DLC will never be free- Microsoft.

Yea…
Sure, I won’t mind Microsoft giving everyone the 3 DLC Map Packs once you or Microsoft pays me back the $20 I paid for the Season Pass. This entire problem can be fixed by 343i simply creating a DLC playlist, not by giving away free maps.
Unfortunately, I think Microsoft set in place some sort of rule that DLC cannot be free if it includes achievements.
Even Halo 3 had some free maps. Cold storage.
Call of duty MW3 had free maps. 2 Face-off maps, and Terminal.
Forza Horizon has like 8 cars that are free.
Atleast Halo 4 gave us Forge Island.
did you forget the Season pass that people bought? Maybe a future Halo 3 remake maps should be free
> did you forget the Season pass that people bought? Maybe a future Halo 3 remake maps should be free
The Season Pass just pays for them in advance.
DLC will rarely be free, you’re all lucky that 343 is rad enough to allow the forge island be free.
DLC is for EXTRA content. You’re not being force to be it, and you’re being cheap if you think you just deserve it for free. DLC is made for some extra bucks for a company, and just for extra content. A company that works hard at making all that extra content should never be obligated, especially this disrespectful community. Would you make a business, and hand out free stuff to a bunch of disrespectful kids? No.
I’m pretty sure bungie released that free DLC pack because they might have had some extra money left over from a project or something under that circumstance.
On another note,
I do wish 343 would have an all DLC playlist though, a permentant one.
The DLCs added achievements. Which means they will never be free.
DLC will never be ‘okay’ to buy. Mass Effect fans learned that the hard way. Free DLC on the other hand, is good when done right. It also improves the longevity of the game.
“Tell me another story about the Shepard!”
“Did you buy the DLC?”
“No…”
“Then go to bed.”
I would buy maps if 343i could prove to me they could make good maps… so far my favorites are still forge maps.
they should release a classic map pack for free, with all the oldies in it. i.e.
-the pit
-zanzibar
-midship
-lockout (a real one)
-hang em high
-derelict
-wizard
-narrows
-burial grounds
-construct
hell, i would pay for those before i would pay for their OG content DLC
Is H3 DLC free yet? How about Reach?
Unless they are, it may be premature to start talking about making H4’s DLC free. If anything, I would think it would be slightly discounted before becoming free.

Halo DLC isn’t free on Xbox LIVE for one main reason, it costs to upload updates and DLC onto Xbox LIVE, most of the cost of DLC that we pay, goes toward paying for the fee that Xbox LIVE has for developers to upload anything onto their servers, and also to maintain the servers.
The maps are great, and I didn’t mind having to pay money for them. If 343 releases a second season of Spartan Ops, whether or not it costs money, you can bet I’m gonna download it.
The good work that they put into their DLC should be an indication that it should NOT be free.
> They gave people the chance to play the maps for free as a cover up for the mess up when the Crimson Map Pack launched which caused a ahem storm on the Forums.
>
> When they took the maps back it gave people another reason not to buy them.

> And as a customer who’s paid for these maps, I’d feel pretty ripped off if they went out on the market for free only after a few months. Probably give me another reason not to buy content from 343 tbh…
All true. 343 screwed up with Crimson. Folks who bought the maps for full price would feel yoinked if 343 released all the maps for free. The issue is moot, though, as Halo 3 and Halo: Reach set the precedent for keeping map packs paid, at least most of the map packs. 343 and MS would rather see the population grind to nothing rather than lose a potential sale on a map pack. (And to be perfectly honest, after the free release of the Heroic map pack for Halo 3, I waited on purchasing map packs in case they went free.) Thus, the choice for 343 is whether to require DLC maps for playlists. The folks playing Halo: Reach will tell you the DLC maps never show up in the open playlists. The folks hanging around Halo 3 will tell you that requiring all maps for most of the playlists is a yoink move.

Interesting argument, but Microsoft owns 343 and Xbox Live. Just sayin’.
I’ve paid for all maps since Halo 3. Wouldn’t bother me at all if later on down the road they made the maps free or reduced the price of them. Right now for Halo 4 you rarely get DLC maps. Sad to say when each of the new map packs came out the main focus for me was to get the Achievements for them because I knew that there would be a small window to get them.
I think after 5-6 months the price should go way down or made free. It’s ridiculous, some games that are 2-3 years old still have DLC at the original price.

I agree with you here on every point EB.
I bought the map pass. Would I mind if it or the respective map packs were reduced in price? Not now. It’s been a few months since the first one. I say reduce them. Get MORE people playing, rather than watching the population dwindle each day. It’s greed that drives the prices to not be reduced. Nevermind that by reducing them they’ll make at least SOME money AND get some population back…
I’m content with knowing that by buying the season pass I got them for a reduced price from the get go and got to play them immediately as son as they became available without waiting (other than the download). Those of us who bought the pass are well ahead of the curve of those who haven’t bought the pass/map packs yet.
Heck an influx of gamers into these map packs now would be great. Those maps would be played more, those of us who have them would likely be able to farm kills (since we have that advanced knowledge of map layout), etc.
Honestly, how much does -Yoink!- think they can milk this? IMHO, I think that there should be a standardized sale on any DLC (not just Halo. 3 months after DLC is released it goes on sale for 75% of cost. At 6 months it’s down to 50%. At a year 33%. That’s the lowest it would ever go then.
Having a structure such as this would allow those who don’t mind waiting, to do so knowing when to expect the sale price to come down. For those of us who have to have it immediately, we pay full price. Again though we have the advantage vs those who haven’t played on the DLC when it gets reduced. Also, for those “first-adopters” (people who pay full price), an extra “reward” could be given for purchasing at full price. In the case of Halo 4 a weapon skin or armor. In general, avatar items.
