At least they aren’t forcing you to buy it, like Bungie did with Halo 3. I still consider that to be one of the biggest -Yoink- moves Bungie ever made.

True, but it was awesome how people who paid for the maps could actually play on them…
Don’t get me started with Reach’s MP on pliability on the DLC.

At least it made sure people could actually get what they paid for instead of ripping people off in favor of the people who refused to pay the extra. It wasn’t a -Yoink- move at all…
> The purpose of DLC is to make money, though…
Gamer A: Hey, Gamer B! Did you know Halo 4 has 3 DLC map packs they’ve shipped since the game launched. That’s a total of 19 multiplayer maps.
Gamber B: Wow! I’ve been holding off on trying Halo 4 because I felt like 10 multiplayer maps was kind of limited. Now that there are a good amount of maps, and now that everyone has them and they are readily available, I think I might actually buy Halo 4 now.
Gamer A: You really should, man. It’s a great game, and it has a healthy population online because there’s so much ongoing support. It’s a good time.
Gamer B: Great! I will go to my local electronics retailer and purchase a copy right now. I will see you tonight on Xbox Live as a result! Oh, yeah, guess I should renew my Xbox Live subscription, too, since I had stopped playing games for a while. Oh, and guess I need a new hard drive, too. Why not!

Free DLC would prolong the appeal of the game, thus increasing demand of the game over time, keeping the sale price and volume up longer.
You have a cool game with expanding content as it ages, you make money off of new game sales. Everyone wins.

They (bungie) wanted to give them away for free but MS said NO!. That was one of the reasons they wanted to break away.
I would buy maps if they coasted 100 points for 3.
Why DLC will never be free- Microsoft.
Top 10 reason Microsoft would give them away for free.

Yea…
Sure, I won’t mind Microsoft giving everyone the 3 DLC Map Packs once you or Microsoft pays me back the $20 I paid for the Season Pass. This entire problem can be fixed by 343i simply creating a DLC playlist, not by giving away free maps.
Unfortunately, I think Microsoft set in place some sort of rule that DLC cannot be free if it includes achievements.
Even Halo 3 had some free maps. Cold storage.
Call of duty MW3 had free maps. 2 Face-off maps, and Terminal.
Forza Horizon has like 8 cars that are free.
Atleast Halo 4 gave us Forge Island.
did you forget the Season pass that people bought? Maybe a future Halo 3 remake maps should be free
> did you forget the Season pass that people bought? Maybe a future Halo 3 remake maps should be free
The Season Pass just pays for them in advance.
DLC will rarely be free, you’re all lucky that 343 is rad enough to allow the forge island be free.
DLC is for EXTRA content. You’re not being force to be it, and you’re being cheap if you think you just deserve it for free. DLC is made for some extra bucks for a company, and just for extra content. A company that works hard at making all that extra content should never be obligated, especially this disrespectful community. Would you make a business, and hand out free stuff to a bunch of disrespectful kids? No.
I’m pretty sure bungie released that free DLC pack because they might have had some extra money left over from a project or something under that circumstance.
On another note,
I do wish 343 would have an all DLC playlist though, a permentant one.
The DLCs added achievements. Which means they will never be free.
DLC will never be ‘okay’ to buy. Mass Effect fans learned that the hard way. Free DLC on the other hand, is good when done right. It also improves the longevity of the game.
“Tell me another story about the Shepard!”
“Did you buy the DLC?”
“No…”
“Then go to bed.”
I would buy maps if 343i could prove to me they could make good maps… so far my favorites are still forge maps.
they should release a classic map pack for free, with all the oldies in it. i.e.
-the pit
-zanzibar
-midship
-lockout (a real one)
-hang em high
-derelict
-wizard
-narrows
-burial grounds
-construct
hell, i would pay for those before i would pay for their OG content DLC
Is H3 DLC free yet? How about Reach?
Unless they are, it may be premature to start talking about making H4’s DLC free. If anything, I would think it would be slightly discounted before becoming free.

Halo DLC isn’t free on Xbox LIVE for one main reason, it costs to upload updates and DLC onto Xbox LIVE, most of the cost of DLC that we pay, goes toward paying for the fee that Xbox LIVE has for developers to upload anything onto their servers, and also to maintain the servers.
The maps are great, and I didn’t mind having to pay money for them. If 343 releases a second season of Spartan Ops, whether or not it costs money, you can bet I’m gonna download it.
The good work that they put into their DLC should be an indication that it should NOT be free.
