Halo 4: What needs to be fixed

I really feel like they have completely gotten away from what made Halo the game that it was. They have added and changed to many things that simply were not meant to be in Halo. This game is suppose to be the competitive game. The one that is used for professional gaming. I don’t see how with Halo 4 in its current state that you can say it is still that game.

These are some of the key points that I believe are wrong with the game.

Ordnance Drops- What ordnance drops do to the game is they cut down on the overall skill gap of players. I know it might sound weird that I would complain about that but Halo is suppose to be about the better more organized team winning. It’s not right that one team can work hard to get map control and weapon control only to have the opponent get an awesome ordnance like a binary and turn things around. Also they are random with what they give you. I got an ordnance with Pulse nade, needler, speed. Next ordnance I get Binary, Incineration and Shields. How is that fair? They take away from the teamwork that was once required to control a map and the flow of the game.

Random Weapon Drops- This almost goes hand in hand with the ordnance drops. Having weapons drop at random times on the map is just dumb. It’s not Halo. It does the same thing as ordnance drops. It takes away a teams ability to control the map, the power weapons, and the overall flow. Why should I wear a headset and try to be social and a good team player anymore. They have eliminated the reason for it. The weapon icons I am not so mad about for social playlists but if you make a competitive playlist remove them its competitive, players should know where the weapons are.

Power Weapons Don’t Stand Out- Maybe it’s just me but the power weapons in this game do not stand out as much, other than the binary rifle and incineration cannon.I played a little Halo 3 yesterday and when a guy with the sword caught me off guard I just knew I was done. In this game not so much, someone rounds the corner with sword I just jetpack away real quick and kill them no problem. The most important things in Halo should be power weapons, power ups, map control, and for big team vehicle control. On that note vehicles are to weak now. It once required teamwork and skill to take out vehicles. Today I pulled out a SAW and ripped a ghost apart head on.

Kill/Death vs Win/Games Played- Stop with displaying people K/D ratio. It makes for players who are more concerned with sitting back and staying alive in games like oddball and CTF. I don’t know how many times my team has missed capping a flag and we have some guy just sitting back picking at people never trying for the flag. Bring back the Win/Games Played layout. Then people took pride in winning and were willing to lay down there body for 30 more secs on the flag.

No Rank- Why on earth is there no rank per playlist system? I will say this the whole SR rank and credits is great as an add on but only for the purpose of an overall rank and buying armor pieces, keep that. But there needs to be individual ranking for playlists. It helps to keep evenly matched people playing each other. This makes the matches more competitive. Also it makes players more concerned about winning because they don’t want to lose there rank.

Loadouts- This isn’t call of duty, I don’t play COD. Also this encourages people to camp on small maps because why would I rush out for the shotgun when I can spawn with DMR(mid-long range) and boltshot(close range, and almost better than shotgun).

I would mention Armor Abilities but that should have never transferred from Reach so yeah.

I realize that you are running in this new direction and there really is no hope of seeing the next Halo games get back to the basics like in Halo 2 and 3. However at least give us a few playlists or remake halo 2 and keep it’s multiplayer.

I know I have a lot of complaints but that is because I miss how Halo once was. What it was founded on and what set it apart. 343 you told me to trust you because you were die hard halo fans living the dream of making the new halo game. You have broken that trust and lied to me because a true halo fan would not make this game.

I know you are trying to please the casual gamers. But throw us competitive players a bone. Give us a throwback playlist with dedicated spawns, power ups, a ranking system, and the other things removed

Get rid of:

Loadouts
Ordinance drops
AA
Perks
Join in progress

Nerf:

DMR
boltshot

Add:

more playlists
small maps
1-50

If there is one tweak I could make for a title update, is make it so someone using camo while scoping-in flash or make them give a warning. Just so it can at least warn a player that someone is camping with camo and snipe.

I rather see camo be an ordinance power-up, but I know it can’t be removed as an AA.

Pretty much this^^+make it a classic halo 1-2-3 arena style gameplay shooter with good maps and lets not forget the custom games. We need to improve that badly!

I don’t like halo 4 at the momment. It’s not a terrible game, but it’s not a good one either, a hollow shell of the Halo universe with the cream filling removed and replaced with something bland and tasteless.

It reminds you of Halo, but it’s not Halo. Nothing is “improved”, it’s just different, and there’s a great deal less of it too. The Prometheans are terrible enemies, not at all fun to fight. Their weapons are boring and uninteresting, and the game’s campaign FORCES them on you. The music is forgettable at best, you can mute it and not notice a difference. The new design ethic feels like it doesn’t even belong in the same evolutionary tree as Halo, especially the new Spartan IVs and Marine BDUs. The new multiplayer format, why try to be like Call of Duty; Halo was distinct, this is just depressing. Spartan OPs makes me miss Firefight, which I originally didn’t care for in the first place, but at least Firefight mixes it up a bit instead of throwing the same mission and recycled audio back at you. Worst of all the fireshare is STILL broken 2 months after release.

It also doesn’t feel worth the asking price. Content-wise it lines up more with ODST than Reach or even 3.

Again, I won’t say it’s a terrible game, it’s just not a good one, and what irritates me is that this is what we’re getting now instead of real Halo.I liked reach aswell(kind of).

this

jjj205 you described it perfectly. It looks like Halo it kinda feels like Halo but it’s not. It is basically like someone made a Halo skin mod for COD.

I think SubZeroChief23 just really misses the good ol days of Halo 2 on the OG Xbox. And who can blame him? That was undoubtedly the best in the series.

But this “Real” Halo that people think of is alive and well in those past games maybe not for the online play anymore. But they can still be enjoyed with friends on the couch, as that is how they should be enjoyed.

If we go back to how those games are, we’d just be making a prettier version of those games. Some people would like that. I think most would want to see this beloved franchise take chances and make mistakes rather than to stagnate and stay safe. If you ask me 343 didn’t take enough chances with Halo 4. I think something drastic and controversial needs to happen to give it a fresh taste but keep it away from generic shooters like CoD. It’s not going to happen though, way too many haters would rag on 343 sadly. Hell they get ragged on for “staying safe” with a lot of the Halo features.

I REALLY hate to see 343 get bashed for the decisions they made in this game. It’s their first attempt, and the game is incredibly solid. Love it for what it is, instead of for what it isn’t.

campaign or MM?

campaign? i wish youd go back to the gravemind… like h2…man i cant wait for silentium.

for match making, I have accepted halo 2 is gone. And my love for it is resting in my brain and heart. Its 10 years later, I’ve accpeted that it will not be the same, and Its okay. The game play could change ALOT more then it already has… But what keeps me comming back, and interesting is the environment of the maps. Always so bright and positive yet mysterious. I miss those maps that made no sense like boarding action… or lock out… like WHY THE HELL IS IT SHAPED LIKE THAT?

my second reason i keep comming back, is that the gameplay is fun. The uniqueness of the game has increase so much. watching people use holograms to fool people is great. Timing a hardlight shield is pretty awesome. The auto sentry is pretty funny to when used intelligently…

Reduce your play time if you dont like the game, or quit. Stop complaining tho, its not very effective. Just be creative and offer solutions that would work instead of its broken fix it now. Well, how do you want it fixed? what could be the fix? if we fix it this way is it broken another way? Balance your issues out people.

I feel like the bolt shot is over powered in its kill range department

I don’t really get how people are saying that this game is too much like CoD. There are similarities of course. The sprinting, the loadouts, the killcam. Some other obscure features probably. But the gameplay is what matters, and they are FAR AND AWAY different from each other. Two of these three things, sprinting and the killcam, are features that I think are completely necessary for a shooter, and these are just an evolution of gaming. Kinda how Halo evolved the shooter by including the rebounding health meter. The Loadouts I could see an argument against. Although I do like them.

Just checking out the gameplay side by side. Aesthetics aside, the skill required in Halo 4 is far more important. This game is all about consistent aiming. Keeping bullets on their mark or die trying. CoD is all about randomly spraying fire in the direction of movement.
