I’ve been playing halo 4 a bit lately and honestly I have to say the only thing I don’t like is the gameplay. the story they set up had great potential and spartan ops was a fantastic idea. but poor gameplay can only take great ideas so far. so I guess I’m curious, what do you guys thing of going back to halo 4s story telly method but keeping halo 5s gameplay (or at least keeping it feeling like halo). because while I’m not 100% satisfied with halo 5s gameplay either, it is light years better than halo 4.
I liked H4’s campaign but MP is probably the worst in the series.
If I’m being honest, I have to agree with you. Halo 4 was my first time actually playing a Halo game, and I didn’t find it to be all that bad. The campaign was pretty decent, and while he wasn’t used as much as he should have been, I liked the idea and the purpose behind the Didact; his character and backstory really interested me. I didn’t play a whole lot of multiplayer but I was pretty frustrated at being killed every 2 seconds by someone with an orange block called the “Boltshot”. In fact, I didn’t even know about it’s ridiculousness until months later. But I still had fun with the game, and I definitely believe that Halo 4 was indeed a good game.
I thoroughly enjoyed H4’s campaign and I wish that 343 hadn’t gotten rid of the Didact so soon. I also liked the introduction of the prometheans, but I wish 343 would spend more time making them interesting to fight in future games. That said, H4 is tied with Reach as my least favorite multiplayer in the series. H5’s gameplay was a huge step in the right direction in my opinion
I had a lot of fun in Halo 4’s BTB modes, I always felt like that’s what it was meant for. I played the HELL out of Dominion in Halo 4, it was one of my favorite game modes.
Some of the BTB maps were fantastic too. Really, really disappointed me when all the BTB maps for Halo 5 were forged, and the focus was on micro-transaction happy Warzone instead.

Dude, how in the -yoink!- are you getting killed by the boltshot? That gun flipping sucks! It’s only good when it’s charged up and that range is garbage. The boltshot in 5 is a little better but only because it actually tracks enemies now like the needler except worse.

H4’s Boltshot is a pocket shotgun. If you haven’t used it to get a kill or gotten killed by one, you’re not telling it true.
I liked Halo 4’s campaign, War Games was a hit or miss for me.

Again, it’s practically useless unless you are right up on them. The M90/M45 atleast has the advantage of range, the boltshot is basically a two shot mauler.

Except for the fact that I was a complete idiot who didn’t know how to play Halo at the time. Now I at least know my way around the games, so I don’t fall for that stuff anymore, but back then I was an absolute noob.
Halo 4 is a good game.but not a good halo game. With the changed art style story elements and matchmaking settings i only played once in a while since i always sticked with reach on 360 instead of 4.

I like your way of thinking! It is not one of the best Halo games out there, but in the big picture of FPS games, it is very decent. Thank you for bringing that up, HurriedPie69297!
it was decent
I love everything that was Halo 4. Sure, it had its fair share of mistakes and bugs…but it was a very enjoyable game, my favorite one out of all the Halo entries.
- Amazing Campaign - Fast pace and no competitive multiplayer (made for fun) - Enjoyable Spartan Ops co-op mode that allows your very own Spartan with their very own backstory, own armor as well as their own code names and so on be part of the canon storyline AND also alive to this point.
Now the Story to Halo 4 was its strongest suit, so was Spartan ops. It set up some pretty interesting things that I wanted to see but 343 do what they do best and drop anything good they do. Halo 4 multiplayer and art style direction was pretty horrible. Honestly what was more unsettling was when 343 made lore excuses for their new art direction. Introducing sub-species and certain living conditions to various members of the covenant. Halo 4 expanded upon Reach and added CoD elements. This was a bad idea that 343 did not learn from as we see Halo 5 share simulates to CoD advance warfare. 343 was been a trend chaser instead of focusing on what made Halo so great.\
But to wrap this up, Halo 4 story pretty decent, it focuses on chief as a character which is something we rarely see. However multiplayer bad.
I also liked the halo 4 campaign, the multiplayer was not very good especially for the sounds of the weapons, but it was entertaining

Well said, but I think 343 focusing on chief as a character was also a huge step in the wrong direction. It has become apparent to me that kids today who’s first Halo was 4, or those who have only played 343’s Halos do not understand what made Bungie’s great. Master Chief was a self-insert for the player, something akin to an action movie hero with an untouchable aura.
For some reason 343 thought this meant chief was lacking and that players wanted to delve into him. Chief being a mostly mute killing machine is what made him great to begin with. He was the vehicle with which you kicked flood and covie -Yoink-, a mysterious, legendary figure nobody could quite get a bead on - except cortana. Another thing that made the legacy Halos so great was the duo of chief and cortana, I think the item descriptions for cortana and cheif’s FF voices in reach paint a good picture;
“Thought he’d try shooting his way out, mix things up for once.”
“Fortunately, she LIKES crazy.”
The gung-ho MC that always drops head-first into hell and Cortana, the hesitant voice of reason who makes sure he doesn’t kill himself.
It legitimately disgusts me what they did with cortana and chief in 4 and more so in 5. I haven’t ever been able to quite place it, but it seems as though either 343 wants to distance themselves from Bungie work to avoid being derivative, even though their company is built on their work and even named after one of their characters, or that the writers/directors think the story needs to be “modern”.
To me 343’s greatest sin was taking chief off his high horse and introducing forerunner enemies.
I guess not ever series gets to die a dignified death. We get to watch Microsoft run it into the dirt for the next 10+ years before people get sick of it and it just dies off. At least the Souls series got to die in a dignified way.
