Halo 4 was a miss (Story related thread)

I haven’t been here forever so I’m going to point that out right now if any of these things have been said earlier on but anyway I’ll start.

I think Halo 4 was a miss and I hope 343 can pull off what I expect in the next game, maybe I was dreaming too big but I really feel Halo 4 was a miss, don’t get me wrong, I love the multiplayer you might say it feels like CoD but I’ve played CoD a couple times after getting Halo 4, love Halo 4, still hate CoD, they play nothing a like so you guys should probably get that out of your heads right now.

I felt Halo 4 was a miss story wise, we were given great books like Cryptum and Primordium as back story for what we should expect in Halo 4, and I felt little of it was actually useful. When I first heard 343 talking about Halo 4 saying how it would be a much darker story and wouldn’t be the space opera like the other Halo games also that we would be on a abandoned forerunner planet I expected things like: Dark forerunner cities, dark areas, aggressive forerunner AI’s, brutal Covanent, and by the end of the game we would find what we were pushed towards in primordium so much, A precursor. Instead I feel I got a game that portrayed very little of that, still felt like a space opera, less so then the other games but not in a good way, the Didact is kind of a BS villan in Halo 4, he doesn’t evoke fear or emotion especially because he was in his Cryptum most of the game.

The story was supposed to be master chief’s story but I feel he was shafted in favour of the Spartan 4’s which I feel are also a problem for later canon (I’ll explain later) it didn’t feel like John’s story it felt like another " John save me!, but first press 3 buttons to open the door" it was really disapointing. Yes the Prometheans we’re formed from Humans why not show some of that emotion and rage and anger, the face splitting isn’t nough to make them feel more human and less like robots, they still feel like stupid robots a nice scene in game would have been if they actually took a character and turned them into a promethean to show how painfull the proccess is and how much a big deal it is (prefferably sarah palmer) more variations of prometheans, more agressive movement and animations, not saying we need to go god of war gory but that would certainly help show that they really are a force to be reckoned with, more stabing right through covanant with energy blades we don’t need to go as far as decapitation or de limbing but you get the point.

The spartan 4’s just feel like cocky idiots running around with fancy armour, if they’re supposed to replace the spartan 2’s and if this game is really supposed to be dark drop the spartan 4s as a failed project and demote them from spartans but let them keep their armour, 1 rank above ODST 1 rank below spartan so in Halo 5 for a team you would get 3 marines 2 ODSTs and 1 spartan 4. Now, move on to the spartan 5s make them be the only thing that could rival the spartan 2s, give them the same class of armour only obviously upgraded, kidnapped at birth and make them very agressive have the spartan 4 program be a commercial cover up for the 5s.

Halo 5 NEEDS to be the Halo 2 of the reclaimer series make it dark, edgy and badass, Halo 4 suffered from having large looking open areas but being linear, if you’re going to go the linear route, you can’t CAN’T have space opera this was one thing that bugged me in Halo 4. How I belive Halo 5 should be is have us start off on the infinity getting long overdue new armour (Spartan 5 armour) talk about finding a new sheild world that the infinity has been studying they have found strange none forerunner structers on the planet, no more WE’RE UNDER ATTACK ABANDON SHIP I think we’ve had enough of that for one series, get master cheif a new AI with shreds of cortana in it, send him in through dark jungles like the level in the original Halo 343 guilty spark, dark rooms and areas , hallywas exploring funtioning and non functioning forerunner ruins and cities, let us learn about how they lived have us encounter smarter more anilmalistic stalker prometheans, use the enviroment to their advantage, the crawlers were a step in the right direction. Transform and adapt to the situation, combine make it cool and challenging, take a hint from borderlands and have critical hit areas like the loaders, so you can soot of their arms and limbs but have them still come at you. Finally have us encounter pre cursors and bring back the flood, but don’t bring back the flood something like it but a completely new breed of beast, adapted to promethean weaponry to make things interesting. That’s all I have to stay for now for how Halo 4’s story wasn’t how it should have been and for what Halo 5 needs too be. I probably had more, but I’m tired and forgot, post your input.

Use paragraphs, I am not reading a wall of text.

Fair enough, My computer is being really slow which Is why I didn’t edit it, I’ll PM you or bump it when I fix it, sorry about that.

Halo 4’s story could have been better, certainly, but I feel that it was pretty great as it is. However…

Let’s see less of the portrayal of Elites as animals. Bungie built up the Elites as alien but still reasonable and (to a point) noble creatures. 343i ruined this.

I agree with what you’re saying about the Campaign, but I don’t think a Precursor should have been introduced yet. For fans whom haven’t read the books, that would be totally out of left field.

Other than that, I like a lot of what you said. I still loved the Halo 4 Campaign, but what you said would have been pretty cool.

I read most of the books and I rather liked the campaign.

If you want a darker space game then play dead space.
Halo should never be dark.

That is a good point but I still belive they should have been at least hinted at instead of thrusted forward in a new game.

Well, says who?, Halo has had some very dark parts, again the level 343 guilty spark, a lot of the Halo 2 levels, Halo ODST, It all worked very well, I don’t see why it can’t work again. If I wanted to play dead space I would play dead space, but Halo is my favorite series, not for its game play or its multiplayer but for its story and its semi creative way it utalizes it in and out of the games.

I hope that 343i will not remove the ODSTs entirely. the Spartan IV’s must vary in the thousands compared to the ODST’s (speculation) tens of thousands. If they do, then I’m gonna miss those SOEIV’s and famous armor gears and helmets :frowning: Good point on your OP though.

Survival horror games are dark. Halo may have been gritty at times but it isn’t dark.

The level 343 guilty spark would like to have a word with you
OT:Well a lot of Halo’s influences are from sci fi horror games so I still don’t see how it couldn’t work.
