Halo 4 War Games Map Pack Access

This is from the Halo Bulletin . . “The competitive multiplayer modes of Halo 4 are known as War Games. The Limited Edition includes access to nine maps - three future competitive multiplayer map packs, each including three locations, available for download post-launch on Xbox LIVE. Yes, you read that correctly; you get nine maps in the form of future DLC with the purchase of the Halo 4 Limited Edition. Score!”

Put simply if you buy the Limited Edition of Halo 4, you get 3 future competitive multiplayer map packs (Each map pack has 3 map’s for a total of 9 map’s).

They aren’t free map packs, the price of them is included into the total cost of the Halo 4 Limited Edition. (A lot of people have been saying that they are free, which they are not).

These map packs will be available after Halo 4 comes out.

Here is a comparison to a game that is already out. The Halo 4 Limited Edition is about the same thing as the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition.

Here are link’s to the product details for both games . .

Halo 4 Limited Edition

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition

This post is to help clarify the facts that have been given by 343, sadly a lot of people think the map packs are free =(

Well, they are free if you buy the Limited edition. There is no extra cost or charge down the way, buy it and you get them when they release. Hence you can without doubt say that they’re free if you buy limited edition.
However, they’re not without cost, you pay for them when you buy the limited edition, just as you pay for every other thing included. However, if you just buy limited to get the other stuff, the maps are free since you get them at no extra charge. If you buy limited only to get the “free maps”, you pay for them and get the other stuff “free”.
If you buy limited because you want everything, you pay for what you get, and may call part of the money paid a deposit to get those maps. ^^

After all, “there is no such thing as a free dinner/mappack/anything”.
You’ll always pay in the end, one way or another, you might not even know it, but you’ll pay the price anyhow ^^

I said all of that in my post =(

Also if they were free the cost for them wouldn’t be included . . When you buy the Halo 4 Limited Edition, your paying up front for the map packs.

With all the other content value you’re getting on top of three map packs for only an extra $40? You’re at least getting one, maybe two map packs essentially free of charge in all reality.

What is war games ???

Maybe the Ranked side of MP ??

> With all the other content value you’re getting on top of three map packs for only an extra $40? You’re at least getting one, maybe two map packs essentially free of charge in all reality.

All of the non map pack extras really don’t cost a lot for 343 to make. If they did, then the price would be more then $99.99.

The game and the map packs make up 95% or more of the total price. All the other thing’s most likely cost $3.00 at most for 343 to make, avatar things and pieces of paper don’t cost a lot to make.

No one who buy’s the Limited Edition is getting any free map packs at all, they are just paying the cost for them up front when they buy the Halo 4 Limited Edition.

ps I’m most likely going to buy two Halo 4 Limited Editions, so this isn’t a topic/thread about my complaining about the price.

I know right this just seems lazy.

Still wrong, mate.

That 90 minute Forward Unto Dawn disc? That could easily cost $10-20 if it were sold in a retail store.

That Infinity info booklet? Depending on the amount of color illustrations, the binding, the paper used, and the amount of pages that could also easily cost $10-20.

The Avatar gimmicks could probably cost another $5 altogether.

Then map packs are roughly $15 each.

…All of that for $40 extra.

> I know right this just seems lazy.

What seems lazy ? My post or the map packs ?

> > I know right this just seems lazy.

Niether seem lazy to me.
OT
I would of bought the maps packs anyway so ill probably just get the limited edition so i don’t have to mess with buying microsoft points down the road.
The other stuff is just icing on the cake.
Especially if halo pulls a cod move and charges 1200 microsoft points for each dlc.

Just be sure to realize the extended media (Miniseries movie and the book) actually cost a pretty decent amount compared to what you’re perceiving. Both of those could individually cost more than a single map pack would, so yes, you are getting at least one, potentially two map packs for practically free when you apply the costs of other items in the package.

First they never said that the 90 minute Forward Unto Dawn was a disc, and the UNSC Infinity Briefing Packet . . is a packet it most likely is only 10 small pages.

343 would make the extras as cheaply as possible, so they can more money back on each Limited Edition sold.

Say it cost 343 $40.00 to make each Limited Edition, they would make $59.99 on each Limited Edition sold. It might even cost them less to make each Limited Edition.

They are a business, they wouldn’t make something unless they could make a profit.

I wonder if some of the DLC gives you spartan ops missions

> I wonder if some of the DLC gives you spartan ops missions

If I have read right what 343 has said about Spartan Op’s missions, they aren’t paid DLC, they are free weekly updates/missions.

Why wouldn’t the FUD Miniseries be its own separate disc? Either way, the miniseries costs a LOT to make- There’s a reason companies don’t use Live Action adverts very often, or longer than a minute. They cost a lot. The 90 minute uncut version could easily sell for much more than you seem to think.

Also, about the Infinity packet: Halsey’s. Journal. They’ll likely make it the same magnitude as that booklet, which had a great amount of pages, unique binding, several illustrated pages, and tons of extra packet content inside the cover. Definitely a $10-20 price tag in actuality. Why wouldn’t 343i follow that up with something of relatively equal value? I have a feeling it’ll live up to the Halsey Notebook in terms of content.

Between those two, you ARE in fact basically getting DLC for free if you include those items into the $40 price tag. Furthermore, even if you didn’t- the DLCs are $15 each typically. You still save $5, or a third, on one of the DLCs as opposed to buying them separately. You save money, it can’t be denied.

I just don’t get why you’re trying so hard to make it seem like we aren’t getting a great deal. I really don’t. Don’t you WANT more people to preorder and give 343i more revenue so they can make Halo 5 bigger and better? Don’t you WANT to encourage the community to buy the Limited Edition?

I don’t see why you wouldn’t.

> > I wonder if some of the DLC gives you spartan ops missions

That is correct spartan ops mission are going to be released weekly or monthly i don’t recall which and will be free for everyone.

First of all, you said that they weren’t free, but they are as long as you follow the terms aka pay for the rest. You might say that you by buying Limited already paid, but at the end of the day, those maps won’t cost you a cent if you get limited, and hence they’re free, although with conditions.

Though it isn’t free, it’s actually a bargain.

If you plan on buying the map packs, get the limited. You’re saving money that you could end up spending $15 for each pack, or $20 if you are like me and don’t want to use a debit or credit card on Xbox Live.
