Halo 4 vs Halo Reach: Population Survey

Recently I have seen a lot of posts on this forum and on Reach’s section making claims such as: ‘Reach is better becoz more people play it’ and ‘look at the population, there is your answer’. Well, from 8:25 pm to 8:44 pm GMT (which I believe is the american golden time) I recorded the number of players on each game based on every playlist and how many were in each. I also recorded the average number of players in each playlist. I did not include the Anniversary playlists in Halo: Reach as I do not feel they are part of the game, this hardly affects the rally however as at most Halo: Reach looses 500 players and two playlists.

Total players playing Reach at 20:25 - 20:30 GMT: 8686
Total playlists: 17
Average amount of players per playlist: 511

Total players playing Halo 4 at 20:31 - 20:44 : 52593
Total playlists: 12
Average amount of players per playlist: 4383

Through this it is clear that more people are playing Halo 4, 11,308 people are playing the most prominent playlist (BTB) while the same playlist in Reach is peaking at 1107 players, it is also the most prominent in Reach. The least populated playlist in Halo Reach is the co-operative firefight with 34 players at time of recording, meanwhile the least populated playlist in Halo 4 is the Crimson DLC playlist with 252 players.

Need I say more? The facts are evident, the halo population recognises Halo 4 as a better game. The fact that almost 50,000 players play Halo 4 over Reach is evidence enough.

Please note: The timings were different at recording, even if by minutes. I have not incorporated Halo 3’s online players at this time as I don’t currently own a copy of the game, if enough people ask for it I will undertake a survey when I obtain the game sometime next week.

> Need I say more? The facts are evident, the halo population recognises Halo 4 as a better game. The fact that almost 50,000 players play Halo 4 over Reach is evidence enough.

The majority of players migrate to the newer version of the series regardless if they preferred past games. I’m part of H4’s population and I feel past games were better.

Even though I preferred Reach’s BTB to any other title I still play H4. I just go with the flow and hope the newer title works out its issues.

This is idiotic.

People will always move to the newer game. Halo 3 was released 5 years ago. Halo: Reach was released about 2 and 1/2 years ago. Halo 4 was released just over 3 months ago. People are bound to flock to the newest game.

This is the worst attempt at justifying something I have ever seen in my entire life.

A flow to a new game could justify for ten thousand maybe, but for 40,00 to jump ship I think a bigger reason is needed. Besides, this isn’t an attack on Reach it’s a defense of Halo 4. That and all the rambling children who speak utter nonsense about 343i going in the wrong direction and Halo Reach being the better game.

> A flow to a new game could justify for ten thousand maybe, but for 40,00 to jump ship I think a bigger reason is needed.

Now you’re just making up numbers. 10k makes sense to you, but anything greater means H4 is a better game, really?

Look at how many old COD games are on the list. Why come COD fans that don’t like BO2 can go back and populate older COD games, but Halo fans that don’t like Halo 4 can’t?

Thats a logical fallacy if I’ve ever read one.

Popular opinion never counts as “factual evidence.”

This is silly. People are attracted to the newer game. You have to compare statistics at the same point in the game’s lifespan after release.

Facepalm

Why not compare the population of each game 4 months after release?

Cool signature pal, wise words n’ all, but I’d bang Sansa any day.

The failed logic with these posts is astounding,

Compare games population at their equal release dates… how hard is this? Let me give you an example-

Many would agree that Halo CE is the best game of the series, now compare the population of those two games as of this moment which will have the higher population? Halo 4 of course because it is newer, Halo CE is a 11 year old game why would more people be playing it than a newly released game? Regardless of how good it is.

Comparing population at equals points in time from the games release is more accurate.

Fanboys =/= logic

I lol’d at the “Halo Wars” answer.

uh you’re completely missing the point. when people are talking about population they aren’t talking about current population for both games, they are talking about the population 3 months after the game was released.

nice try tho

I checked Halo Reach a few weeks ago and it had close to 70000 online users, and that wasn’t during peak hours.

Ok so lets just assume the OPs premise is correct (which it isnt)

Halo Reach was a turd of a game.

So now basically you are saying Halo 4 is a slightly more polished turd.

Yippee!

You may be part of the population that actually thinks that HALO should follow CoD and bring anual map packs.

The thing is: IF you think Halo 3 is better thatn HAlO 4… and those people complaing about HALO 4, and saying thaty HAlO 2 was much better…

Why all of you dont go and play Halo 2 on PC?, or HALO 3?
MS wants to turn off Halo 2 because people dont play it.

I am not saying this game is perfect, it is far from that, but all Halo games didnt have a smooth and perfect gameplay until months after its release.

Somer people in this community sounds more like CoD players complaining about their game because they don’t win all the time or don’t get a positive k\d after the match

The truth is, to all those complainers:
MARCEL PIGNOL - “The reason people find it so hard to be happy is that they always see the past better than it was, the present worse than it is, and the future less resolved than it will be.”

halo players are entering the land of the mods on halo 4

The low population affects the quality of matches in MM. I’d still be playing H3 if every other game wasn’t red-yellow bar. I still occasionally LAN w/ H1-3 if I can find other people IRL who still have them.

No it is not. You can’t compare the games like that because the situations those games were in are a lot different. You can’t take in account the influence other games out at the time of each Halo games’ release or gamers’ preferences had on the population. Right now, it is clear most gamers prefer COD over other shooters on Xbox.
