Here is a list, in my best opinion that are changes considered to be best of the series.
- HUD
Not only is it functional, it seems to have the best aesthetic look of the whole series. The bobbing while running, jumping, and falling are a nice addition. This also seems to be the most functional HUD we have ever seen in a game. It stays classic to previous HUD’s, and offers some interesting features. The radar is the best we have ever seen. In previous Halo games you would not know if someone was above or below you, this time it firmly tells you where the player is. In Reach it was getting there, by making triangles and faded dots to give you an idea what floor they were on, but Halo 4 seems to have nailed it.
The overheating bar seems to appear below the reticle, which would make more sense since than looking in the upper right corner.
- Magnum
When you think of best pistol, you usually think of the 3sk pistol from Halo: CE. Although it was a nice weapon to use, it’s impractical to have a weapon that powerful in multiplayer. The pistol in this game is great for what it is: a pistol. I feel like I still stand a chance when I run out of ammo and all I have left is this sidearm. The firing is more accurate than the version in Reach.
As compared to other pistols, this one has to be my personal favorite so far. The Halo 2 pistol behaved more like a pistol as opposed to Halo: CE, but had no scope on the weapon itself. It felt more like a last resort, backed up to the wall type of weapon rather than something you can used and know you aren’t in trouble! As for Halo 3, the pistol was rather slow and always the weapon that was ditched for another gun. It sometimes had a practical use when dual wielding, but was still ineffective in many respects.

Scorpion
The tank is definitely how it should be compared to other versions in previous Halo games. This one, however has a cannon that fires much slower and has a slower reload rate to give foot combatants a chance. The only thing I don’t like is the scarcity of the tank in matchmaking, but it definitely is a fun toy to use while making the game fun for others. -
Announcer
Sure, I miss the way he used to announce in older Halo games. However, he sounds like he downed a 5 hour energy before they recorded his voice for the game, and it sounds more exciting hearing his voice than before. I think this something I can get used to. -
Territories/Dominion
Territories was a fun gametype, at least for me in older Halos. Dominion however, is a worthy heir to territories and a significant improvement. -
Forge tools
Although I don’t consider forging in Halo 4 the best, duplicating, magnets, locking, and quick buttons accessed through the D-pad is an enormous improvement over Halo: Reach. Objects that are highlighted and have their name showing is a noticeable improvement since users accidentally selected and move the wrong piece. Other than that, setting the mood is really easy and effective. Just take a look at this. -
Sound
This hands down has the best sound out of all the games. Many including I miss the old warthog sounds and environmental moods, but looking past that the sounds feel crisp and clear while still feeling like Halo. Even the Needler sounds like a real gun!
These are just some of the basic things introduced into Halo 4 that I find to be the best of the entire series. 343i really outdid themselves on many of these things and I’m very grateful.
