Just wondering on what the Halo community thinks of Halo 4 utilising the Reach engine for its foundations?
Personally don’t think you can do much better than the Reach engine, it’s easily one of the greatest gaming engines in history, so it’s common sense to re-use it.
BUT, knowing that everything in the game isn’t completely new and built from the ground up, Halo 4 doesn’t feel like the typical Halo leap in between games.

You may be flamed for this. Rightfully so.
The game looks great so far, and I have faith based on the gameplay that it will hold up when I get it in my hands. Nothing to complain about
The same thing I thought about Reach using the Halo 3 engine, Halo 3 using the Halo 2 engine, and Halo 2 using the Combat Evolved engine. It’s a heavily modified version, it’s pretty much a new engine.

He’s saying one of the greatest. Not that it is the greatest. And I have to agree, for a modified HAVOK engine, it has been incredibly reliable for Halo.
I think its fine I mean reach had the best faces we have seen in a halo game ever I feel like there wasn’t to much more room for improvement because I think we have seen everything the 360 is capable of graphically.
He said “one of the greatest”, not “the greatest”.
OT:
The Reach engine was incredible!
It was so smooth and clear.
I was thrilled to find it returning.
And quite frankly, worried before hand seeing as that it was a new company and a prequel to Halo 3.
Reach had amazing textures but the lighting needed a little more work. Halo 4’s graphics look great so far, so there’s nothing to really complain about. When it comes to halo graphics I think the art style is what separates it from almost every other fps that goes for photorealism (not that anything is wrong with that, just a bit mainstream nowadays.)
Well it’s using a heavily modified Reach engine, which is a heavily modified version of every past Halo game’s engine. That being said, I’m quite happy that they’re sticking with the same engine, since it performs exceptionally well and looks gorgeous at the same time. To be honest, Halo 4 is one of the best looking games I have ever seen on the 360, which is something to be said considering we have a lot of good looking games out there.

Exactly you almost cant tell the difference personally

343 using the Reach engine just basically means that they’re not heavily modifying halo or building it’s engine from scratch into something else. Just doing the same thing bungie had kept doing.

Yes, so technically the Halo 4 engine is the CE engine

And the CE engine was a modified Unreal engine (I think) so technically Halo 4 is using a really old Unreal engine
I wish they kept the frame blending from Reach. I know there were issues with ghosting but that could have been fixed instead of scrapping it entirely.
Furthermore, even though the Reach beta had more ghosting issues, I just fondly recall it being more fluid than the final game. No idea why.
