Why is it that Halo 4 gets so few viewers on Twitch.tv? Halo 3 is 7 years old now, yet gets more viewers.
So what in your opinion makes Halo 4 so unpopular with the hardcore crowd?

the same reasons as what makes it an unpopular game period. very unbalanced and too unlike traditional halo. its not any fun to watch most of the time.
Well, a lot of the time, the people streaming are the Competitive players. So, of course when you remove the only Competitive playlist in the game, it’s no wonder the last competitive players all ran off.

Proving ground?

Yeah, not really though, with radar and sprint it isn’t what competitive players are wanting to play.
I finally played some of the no sprint no radar settings the other day, and it is a completely different game than what is available in matchmaking.
So Halo 3 is what the majority of the Twitch guys are going to play, or Halo 4 EU settings. Not Proving Ground, well vary rarely anyway.
> Proving ground?
…isn’t competitive, or atleast is competitive like what checkers is to chess.
you’ve used words such as nostalgia to disprove older halo games, however that isn’t the case at tournament level play…twitch streamers being predominantly tournament level players and speed runners.
you could have a multitude of competitive features (which halo 4 doesn’t have anyway), as long as the base game is built off randomness then the patterns that such features create don’t matter anyway.
i’m sure after having a different opinion to “competitive/tournament” players you’d be able to understand which functions stop or inhibit competitive play.
functions which are present in proving ground
to stop myself from being ambiguous i’m referring to sprint, poor map line-up, poor weapon sandbox, flinch, radar, poor player movement, high aim assist and magnetism, poor HUD, weapon despawn issue, no flag drop the list goes on.

I mean, its KINDA like Team Throwdown. Just take away the variety in maps, smart weapon placement, and the incentive to communicate with your teammates.
Seriously, Haven in Proving Grounds has a Rocket Launcher, Energy Sword, Concussion Rifle, AND a Sniper Rifle. V5 Haven only had a Concussion Rifle and Sniper Rifle. Ya know, weapons that either gave you a slight advantage if used correctly, or required some semblance of skill to be used effectively at all.
Ah, ok. When you say “competitive” in this instance you mean MLG. It’s just that the terminology gets so convoluted on here. So many people dislike Halo 4, and they all say they do because “it’s not real Halo”, yet “real Halo” changes definition from person to person.

> Did you play Halo 2 multiplayer consistently, or did you recently come to Halo from other games? Halo 2 was the epitome of raw, true competitive gameplay. You were either good or bad. There were no lucky ordnances to bring you back or rule the map with, you had to understand map flow and control instead of being able to fly, you had to be aware instead of being able to see through walls, you had to pay attention to weapon and power-up spawns instead of having camo in a loadout or having a blaring icon on your HUD for weapon spawns.

Considering you didn’t take me up on that challenge to name something Halo 2 did better than Halo 3, I think you see too.

that was the easiest one i could find, though it is rather indirect as to some other replies i’ve seen.
there has been many times in which adapt and nostalgia has been flung around on this forum and i feel it inhibits an actual discussion on settings.
though regarding twitch, that one is quite clearly obvious why pros aren’t suddenly picking up proving grounds.
also i wouldn’t say something like “they didn’t give it a chance” because it was the competitive community that tested the settings so vigorously in the first place and it was the competitive players who have brought in these updates and changes to H4.

Well this thread is trying to determine why Halo 4 is not as popular on Twitch as Halo 3 is, and I believe there have been a couple of good explanations why.
I tune into Twitch for Halo. I tune in to watch competitive Halo. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is what others would be interested in as well. There just isn’t a lot of interest in watching someone playing BTB or Infinity day in and day out.
All the subscriptions I have are from me searching for Halo on Twitch. Almost all of them are now either playing Halo 3, Titanfall, or COD on a regular basis. In fact in Ninja’s description on his channel he states he has gotten bored with Halo so now he plays other games instead. Ghandi, Naded, Formal are all doing other things then playing Halo 4.
This one guy (Delemantary) is playing Halo 4 on a regular basis and he plays Customs with EU settings so that still isn’t anything that is being played in matchmaking. The other is just not real fun to watch. Believe me I’ve watched it.
Halo 4 is unpopular on twitch because:
If Halo 4 was fun to watch then more people would watch it. Halo 4 is boring to watch, regardless of who is playing. And if you wish to watch Halo on twitch and you tune into a Halo 4 channel, you’ll only be disappointed unless you actually prefer that non-Halo style of Halo that Halo 4 is. Plus Halo 4 has too much hand holding and there is no need to have skill to play it. After taking nearly a year off Halo 4 I was still able to go in and dominate from the first game. Going into Reach MLG V8 I actually had to relearn how to shoot. It is not hard to look down on Halo 4.
I’ve played Halo 2 before they shut down the servers and had a ton of fun, just like I had when the game first came out. I still play it a little on LAN. If they give us Halo 2 Anniversary and if they don’t touch the multiplayer, many of us will be extremely happy. Hell they can open the source for Halo 3, fix the near broken net-code and remove the BR spread, and release it as Halo 3.5 and it will embarrass Halo 4.
Besides watching Twitch Plays Pokemon for about five minutes there’s no reason to even use Twitch.

Oh snap, he has sources. D:
In fairness, I wasn’t using the world “nostalgia” to “disprove” anything. I put it forth as a possible explanation for Halo 2’s popularity. If I had attempted to refute people’s points with “No, that’s the nostalgia talking.”, maybe. My argument was based on Halo 2’s shortcomings as I saw them, not some abstract concept. Sorry if that’s not how I came off sounding.
Anyways, this is irrelevant. Kinda wondering why you brought it up in the first place.

It just seems to me that if people really wanted to play Halo 3 they would play Halo 3, especially since it was, you know, free.
“But that’s an old game.”, you might respond. Well, if shiny graphics are so important then why are we arguing over gameplay?

Isn’t that what is being discussed here? Those players who stream Halo on Twitch predominantly play Halo 3. The popular theory is because Halo 4 is not a competitive enough version of Halo, and therefore the players who stream mostly play Halo 3.
There seems to be one pro player that will frequent the Proving Ground playlist. All the other pro players have either moved onto other games, or play Halo 3. So in terms of the competitive Halo Twitch scene Halo 3 is being played, old game, shiny graphics or not. You say it seems to you that they would play Halo 3 if they wanted to, well it looks like they want to. So I don’t really see your point here. You might respond, “Well look at the population of Halo 4 compared to Halo 3.” Well, we are talking about the Twitch community not the Halo 4 community.

Fair enough. They way Levell on Hard phrased his comment made it look as is he was discussing the population in general, so that is the context in which my comment was posted.
