Hi Halo 4 forums.
I would like to know what the Tritton Triggers are like from people who have given them a go at E3 and other expos. I would really like a pair but I want to know what their like first. They look great btw.
Please tell me what their like. Should I get a pair?
Hmm, I was debating this too. But i’ve decided to get just get regular Detonators. They are only a fraction more expensive, but you get:
- Better sound
- A headset that ears actually fit into and it covers = More comfort! (Triggers press against your ears and thus get hot and irritating after 30mins +
- A headset that can be used with your MP3 player too
Over all, I decided it was better to pay a bit more and get far better headsets then pay less, get cool Halo design, but get an inferior headset.
I’ve used regular Triggers, and overall they were of great quality, especially considering the price. I’m getting the Halo 4 Triggers.
I considered getting the Halo 4 triggers, but they’re wired. I wanted a wireless setup so I wouldn’t have to mess with cords (I hate feeling tethered, and even when you have plenty of slack, the wire still feels like a nuisance). I briefly considered getting the Halo 4 Warheads (the 7.1 surround sounded really neat), but decided they were to expensive.
I settled on a pair of Turtle Beach X42s, because they were wireless & had 5.1 surround sound (I was either going to get that, or the X32 which is wireless, but stereo; I decided the surround was worth the extra $$).
Thanks all for your opinions. I’m not to keen on Turtle Beech but I going to do some more research on the two brands to find the best one and I’ll try to order it before Halo 4.

The worst thing about triggers is that they don’t have any SVM or Voice Monitoring like the better models like the Tritton Detonators and Turtle Beach headsets. SVM and Voice Monitoring allows you to hear your own voice so you are not yelling over the game sounds to get your voice across. Basically if you got a headset and like to play at night but don’t want people to hear you talking you’d have to A) have the game volume down low so you can talk and hear yourself or B) Not talk very loudly but the game volume will make this very difficult.
My advice is to shop around, specifically online. Online prices are wayyyyyyyy better than in store, over here in the UK Tritton Detonators are £59.99 in GAME and after a 5 minute search on google shopping I found them for £44 on shopto. This is just an example of how much cheaper you can get things. I recommend the Tritton Detonators or the Turtle Beach X12s. Both are relatively cheap (£40-£50) and both have their pros and cons but both deliver crisp high quality sound.
If you play with HDMI and don’t have an audio adapter to use the headset whilst using HDMI then Tritton headsets come with the adapter whereas the Turtle Beach don’t which means you’d have to buy the adapter as well if you were going with the Turtle Beaches (the adapter can be found for cheap on ebay and amazon for a few pounds). Anyway hope this give you a bit of a better insight into the headsets, have a look around on the net and look at reviews on sites like amazon to get a better opinion however I do think that you won’t be able to find better value for money than the Tritton Detonators or Turtle Beach X12s.
the triggers are quite nice I just got mine two days ago the sound quality is great and they’re super comfy. The controls for volume should have been placed better seeing as how sometimes the cable will rub against my shirt and turn it either way too low or way to loud but all in all it’s a great pair. I know that turtle beach headsets sound better but for the price and the look nothing beats them
Might get the detanators, saw these in game yesterday and the looked abit small. Though i need to choose between a new headset or controller. My x12s mic has burned out (in 4 months:( ) but my controller has no grip on either thumbstick and is breaking off round the edges lol.

I would save up if I were you and get a good headset like Astro A40s. If you’re patient enough save up some more and get some A50s for wireless freedom.
Buy a headset based on sound quality/capabilities, comfort, features, etc. rather than a damn game’s design slapped on it.
Turtle Beach make the best gaming headsets. Mic monitor is better than Tritton’s SVM (new TBs let you dial it up and down), dynamic chat boost raises teammates chat volume with game volume when things get hectic and you don’t lose the callout or “that’s what she said” joke, and many other features on higher end sets that just make it my favorite kind.
I just wish they made smaller headsets for small-headed people like me so they’d fit better.
I have a pair of Tritton Detonators ($50 sale!) that fit so nicely that I can play for hours and not feel the discomfort my TB X41 gave me. Just wish the Detonators were surround sound.
Back on topic, buy a headset for needs, not branding.

Astro don’t have the features Turtle Beach has. I don’t care about the audio being more audiophile-awesome when the TB headsets have better features and don’t cost more than Astro headsets.
No equalizer to adjust treble and bass, no surround sound angle adjustments, can’t adjust mic monitoring, no wireless chat even on the $300+ a50, no bluetooth capabilities.
Astro might have better audio, but hell if I’m going to notice that much of a difference. I certainly notice a difference in not having the gaming features I’ve come to love and depend on with Turtle Beach.
I just hope my Ear Force X-Ray isn’t defective like my first three XP400s I tried…
Over the years I have had the opportunity to use many headsets.
If you are looking for the best audio quality with a build in microphone there is only one option really.
The Turtle Beach HPA2 used with the Astro A40 Mixamp.
The only downside to this solution is that it is not wireless. But wireless technology is not well enough off yet to be affordable for high end consumer grade headphones at a low price.
If you don’t need a mic then use the Astro A40 Mixamp with some Senheisser headphones.
Using Senheisser headphones you will get much better quality than ANY “gaming headphones”

Multiple pre sets with fully adjustable EQ settings coming.
Completely wireless on PC and PS3 360 only needs little chat cable.
Voice/Game volume controls on the headphone (or mixamp on older units).
Incredible surround sound.
Incredible quality.
Better volume in general.
Don’t look toy like.

If you want to strictly compare features of the Astros and Turtle Beaches, the Turtle Beach Phones win easily.
Adjustable boom microphone. Some people naturally talk louder or quietier. Being able to position the microphone closer or farther away is a must.
Turtle Beach are completely wireless, not even needing a chat cable.
They possess game volume, voice volume is a non issue as Turtle Beaches automatically adjust game chat so that is it easily disputable over loud game volume and lowers it when the game is quiet so they don’t drown out game chat.
And lastly I fail to see how cosmetics come into the performance. of a device. But strictly feature-wise Turtle Beach wins hands down.

I’ve had a pair of wireless Turtle Beach X41s for about 2 years, and they still work fine and sound amazing.
