Halo 4 Training! Help Needed!

I don’t know how the rest of you have adapted to Halo 4 but I’ve been struggling. In all other halo games (Halo PC-Halo Reach) I have had a K/D range from 1.0 to 1.2, which I was somewhat proud of considering overall I killed more than I died. But in Halo 4 I’m now sitting at a .7 and according to my HTR Stats I’m not improving at all.

Over the next couple of months I want to attempt to raise my k/d to 1.0. To do this I want to put myself through a Halo 4 Boot Camp routine. So far this is my working plan from advise from friends and players from this forum.

  1. Find my optimal look sensitivity. I currently play on 3 which seems a bit slow in H4, I plan on going into SWAT, turning sensitivity to 10, play 3 or 4 games at each level until I find a comfortable fit.

  2. Octagon Training. I downloaded a few octagon maps and plan on practicing aim and strafing. (Could really use some extra people to help me here)

  3. Patience. I often charge into battle, which worked well in previous halos but not so well in this one.

  4. Try new armor abilities. I’ve been using Promethean Vision almost exclusively and it may be time for a change. I play with Bumper Jumper so I may not use Jet Pack.

  5. New Lead Weapon. I’ve already switched from the BR to the DMR and I feel a little more comfortable with the increase in range.

Any players that would like to assist me or give any tips would be much appreciated. I usually play in the late afternoon into the night.

Thanks!

  1. Playing on 3 is like suicide. Not only can you not turn fast enough, it’s also much harder to aim than if you were to be playing on a 10.

How I can play CoD and then go to Halo 4’s stupid measly low sensitivity of 10 and still aim without getting frustrated, I don’t know.

  1. Really? Octagon? It only works when you cannot aim. Halo 4 destroyed this gametype; strafing is nearly useless. Just spam jump with BJ while moving forward left/forward right for best efficiency in a 1v1.

  2. It’s not patience you need, it’s knowledge of who to shoot. Find cover, preferably above the enemy, and then shoot with your teammates. You’re playing on a 3; there should be a 0.1% of you losing track of your enemy if they aren’t shooting at you.

  3. Again, no point. Armor Abilities only give you an edge when used in the correct situation. You don’t have one. yet. I’d say try to get used to the regen shield AA first, as it requires patience, cleverness in use, and actually helps you SURVIVE, not KILL.

  4. You have 5 classes. If you really did put BR for all of them, I’m quite surprised.

You don’t have a playstyle. You’ve played Halo for 10 years; I’ve played it for 1.8. I started my Reach (First xbox 360 and halo game apart from Halo Mac demo) k/d as 0.02, and when Halo 4 came out it was 1.18. My Halo 4 k/d was at 3.5, until it dropped to a measly 1.5+.

You need to find a playstyle. You shouldn’t have any issue aiming; but you need to smack on either a 10 sensitivity, or learn to play smart. Probably the latter. I don’t need a sensitivity 10 to kill people; I just like to be able to kill 5 more than if I were using a 3.

Find your playstyle, and you’re good to go.

Oh, 1 final thing. K/D =/= skill. If you want skill to go up, you just play. Get better at aiming and play smarter. FIND a playstyle.

If you want your k/d to be high get on Dominion and then don’t play the objective.

(Which is boring; I have more fun ending the game a minute in)

Play smart!!!

I couldn’t stress this any more. Yes, having a solid 5, strafe, nade placement, etc makes up a good player. Playing smart is what makes that good player a great player.

Running and gunning is going to get you slaughtered 9/10 times. Following Leroy Jenkins into battle is never a good idea or a smart play.

ill help GT is ma username. btw dont pay any attention to the guy that says strafing is useless in H4 he obviously doesnt know how cause for me i usually get my kills by strafing crouching then jumping.

I completely agree. Strafing is always helpful. I managed to kill someone who had full shields, whereas I had none, since I strafed. Think of it this way. What makes an easier target? Something that’s running straight at you? Or something moving side to side. Even with bullet magnetism, logically speaking, the side-to-side target will be harder.

I usually play with sensitivity at 4.

> Play smart!!!

This is how I try to play smart:

My biggest tip would be to ALWAYS stay near cover. Or at least with an escape route. I target people who are just in the open, while in cover since they’re too easy to kill. I use the thruster pack as my primary loadout. What I do is poke out and shoot a bit. If I notice shields coming down rapidly, thrust back into cover. Then I wait until my shield have (almost) fully recovered, before re-engaging the enemy, unless I’m 90% sure I can take him. Sticking with your teammates also help a lot. You can get assists as well as get easier kills when being aware of where your teammates are.

I don’t think he needs to change his sensitivity if that what works for him i personally use 10 as well but know plenty of people who are beasts at this game that use sensitivity 1 or lower. And as for octagon training it can be quite good staffing does still work in this game if you can do it right and also i wouldn’t worry to much about jumping, the best thing to practice IMO is crouching at the right time you can learn the sync of the BR shot, crouch at the right time and make them miss completely works wonders in 1 v 1

Add me

You want your K/D to go up?

DMR/Boltshot combo combined with camo or jetpack

The game will literally aim and do the work if you just strafe and jump and spam the right trigger, cuz you know how 343 “balanced” the weapons.

Thanks for the tips!

It sounds as though you already have the plan most could recommend, with a few alterations based on personal taste, so… hop to it and see what happens.
