Halo 4 - The thing (New gametype)

Please spend five minutes of your time to watch this video and see how the game works in Starcraft 2.

Game rules.

  • Everyone spawns off as Spartans, except for one randomly chosen player which spawns off as the thing. The Thing and Spartans looks excactly the same.
  • The thing will turn other people into things if he kills them.
  • The Spartans must try to find and kill every Thing on the map.
  • If a Spartan kills a Spartan he will get minus score.
  • If a Thing kills a Thing he will get minus score.
  • If a Spartan kills a Thing he will get plus score.
  • If a Thing kills a Spartan he will get plus score.

Maps.

  • The maps should be big, dark and with lots of obstacles.

Requirements.

  • For this gametype to function as seen in the video, it must not be possible to distinguish The Thing(s) and Spartans. Aim Assist must be enabled on both friends and foes.
  • Being able to customize flood into this gametype would not have been such a bad idea, which will equal the Infested in Starcraft 2. The flood will be scattered all around the map attacking both the Things and Spartans, but are set to the easiest diffuculty level of Campaign so they can not end the game alone.
  • The callouts in the lower left corner which shows who killed who needs to be removed.

Two things. 1) Players should spawn as Spartans and Elites, depending on their primary player model. 2) To me, this sounds very similar to infection.

1), Of course. I was only using Spartan as an example.

  1. In infection you know your foes and enemies, now you have no idea. You lie, and confuse everyone in the game to make people think or not think that you or others are the thing. The gametype is incredibly fun, and is one of the most played custom gametypes in StarCraft 2.

pretty great idea, what would be really interesting is the communication between people trhough the mic. There would be a lot of deception and lying which would make it intense.

Sounds fun, dude. I’d play it a lot.

Yes, i would too, and i usually do not like infection. I bet the gametype could top to almost ‘‘most played’’ in this game too.

You are just copying the movie The Thing. But it is a good idea.

Sounds good. I’d play it.

This is an amazing idea!

I love this gametype. It’s amazingly fun (I’ve played it before) and it would have a great place in Halo, maybe with a few Haloish tweaks. A good name would be “Deception” for the Gametype, in my opinion.

Deception sounds good!

Would be fun, but the chances of it being in the game is low.

Sounds cool. Even if it’s not implemented, you could always go into slayer and have someone assign a player as the thing. It’d be lame though, because there would have to be a lot of cooperation.

Reminds me of playing Cops and Robbers on Halo 3 back in the day.

I can just imagine “the Thing” player transforming like the lambent from Gears of War 3 right before infecting/killing an alone, confused player. Could be pretty terrifying, especially if you had something like the effects orb that makes it look like night or something.

i can imagine this working in halo 4. ive now got the idea of a 8 - 12 player game type and me and my friends all communicating apart from the thing which could be called the flood or whatever the new enemy is. it could work like infection but that it is harder to distinguish who is infected or not. this seems like a good idea.

i now have the sound of the overvoice guy going deception and in my head sounds frikin cool.
