Halo 4 - the Battlefield way

I am a huge fan of Halo. It is the game that started it all for me.

I am a huge fan of Battlefield. It has all the aspects of a grand scaled operation that I love in a war game.

Why not create a Halo that uses all of the great aspects of an intense shooter, but in the way that Battlefield does?

Isn’t Big team battle half way there already? Make games much more open and have the need for vehicles and transports and air vehicles.

I think that if a combination of Halo and Battlefield were made - it would create Halo Wars as an FPS.

Well if I wanted to play Battlefield, I would play Battlefield. Besides Halos kill times would not work in a Battlefield style of gameplay.

Destructible scenery is confirmed, but not on a Battlefield 3 level.

I would like this, not sure about everyone else though…

Agreed, but a BTB Battlefield style gametype would be cool.

I’ve been replying to posts like this for a while now, and I think this is definitely a good idea. Transport vehicles and larger BTB = fun.

Agreed. In fact I really think it’s time for bigger BTB. But A Battlefield/Halo hybrid is not what I want to play. I’m even a bit iffy on destructible scenery.

Don’t worry, Frankie said it’s a Halo game at heart, so don’t expect large scale destruction.

Well, what if the Battlefield way was where you used actual UNSC troops? Took the enemies that were used from the Halo Wars franchise and drop them directly into an FPS?

I mean - you could use all of the Halo Wars vehicels, be ODSTs - break down to a ODST Medic, ODST Specialist (silenced SMG), ODST Recon (Snipes), ODST Support (uses a turret-esque style weapon), and possibly have Spartans as the top tier of the battlefield. Each team got 3 spartans, 3 elites. The rest were jackals and/or grunts or possibly new forms of convenant that were near counters to humans? But not elites because they are too powerful and have shield technology.

It would be do-able. Build off of the Halo 3:ODST style of play that was founded - but incorporate it into something similar to what is out there now?

It would be unique and new to the Halo Franchise with flavors from all of the current games and titles.

Possibly even use map based enemies. Rebels, flood, wildlife. Build all of it into unique maps where you have epic battles and sequences that can spawn and -Yoink- everything up!

Worth a shot as an idea maybe.

Halo game at heart means remove all character abilities.

Bring it back to Halo 1/2 era where you actually had to fight for control of power ups and weapons. Back to the basics is what I would like to see in H4, but they aren’t going to head that way… Reach IMO changed the game in a direction many of the core fans didn’t like.

But then again - it made the game non-stagnant like series such as COD have pushed towards.

As everyone alwasy says - you can’t make everyone happy.

This might be a great idea for a Halo game, but it would get the same treatment Reach gets if it is the way of the next trilogy.

I see the similarity, but yours still relies on the core functionality of HAlo as it is now. Mine is more of breaking away from traditional halo.

Possibly not even a halo 4 title - but a Halo - Wars evolved game title.

To be real - Halo now is not the original Halo. Halo has morphed into something unique. HAlo to me is Halo 1 (not anniversary) and Halo 2.

Halo 3 and Reach are something unique in themselves. I like Halo 3, but Reach overstepped my faith in the series. It changed too much from what it originally was with abilities. I didn’t like that aspect. I still prefer playing classic whenever I play the game.

I don’t like the new abilities at all. Sprint is it, but even then it makes the pacing of DMR shots not work as a player can run around the corner. The fun formula to me got too complex when they pushed the kill times longer and longer as the series progressed. H2 had the perfect timing. Reach killed it IMO and made the shields aspect and accuracy go out the window with the introduction or bloom and longer kill times.

I miss H2… but would love to see a Large scale battle that was the halo interpretation of BF3.

Halo’s an arena shooter, and BTB was just an extension of that; lots of players playing in an arena. Halo 3 and Reach changed it a bit, and tried to make it more ‘war like’ by making more maps open and vehicle friendly. Anyone who’s played Halo 2 will tell you that H2 BTB > H3/Reach BTB. So to answer your question, OP, no.

I like arena shooters, not ‘war’ or military shooters. I’m sure many of Halo’s original fans feel the same way too (not wanting Halo to turn into military shooter).

If you want a BF like experience play BF. When other games start imitating others what’s the point? Halo would stop being its own thing and would really just turn into a BF clone with a Halo skin over it.

It won’t work. If you play BTB pubs, you should know that.

I’m thinking that HAlo could ecompass many different genres of games as it already has spread out past just an FPS.

We have board games, RTS, and FPS in the series so far. Whey not expand it further? Halo is a huge IP with a lot of possibility. It could spread across many different genres easily.

I think that if they took an aspect of halo. Such as ODSTs and the characters of say Halo Wars with the addition of new ones - we could come up with a battlefield-esque title.

Something that is new in many ways, but mimics some of the best ideas of games out there. That’s all each new game is - an inspiration founded from one thing that was liked in another game. Although there are many unique individual ideas - true, why not create something iconic and deserving.

Why not take the iconic battles within the universe - and play them out in a game? Why not take some of the assasination missions and play them. Make something that is truly new within the series, but familiar?

That is all I am saying. I’m not saying I <3 BF the most and that halo should be BF, but it could take some of the aspects and make a truly amazing game.
