Halo 4 Story

I’m sure this question has been asked. But did anyone enjoy the story of H4?

Personally, I thought it was really well done and the new additions made it interesting. I truly enjoyed the game and I’ve beaten the campaign probably 8-9 times.

Let me know what you think!

Yes most certainly. It was top notch. I had such huge hopes for H5.

Did not at first! Felt really sad and betrayed when Cortana died, and missed the whole plot because I did not read the Forerunner trilogy or Kilo five trilogy! However after a few campaign replays, I really grew fond of the story. It was, in my opinion, a Halo grade story with amazing music. 117, Wreckage, Mantis and Green and Blue are some of my favorite Halo music! The story grows on you, so I guess the narrative did its job and the emotion I felt in the ending was perhaps similar to how the Chief felt when he shared goodbyes with Cortana!

I liked it, especially since I played Halo 4 only late last year/early this year, and therefore had time to let the hype over the game die down. When I first heard about Halo 4, I was wary and scrutinized it heavily. I didn’t feel as if Halo 3 needed a sequel. (I passed the same scrutiny over Reach as well, so it’s not just a 343i thing.) But once I finally played the game (bought it used for about $5 last year for my 360), I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. I especially enjoyed the “Man or Machine” and Cortana’s rampancy sub-plots. The ending was great, brought up a lot of questions (though I feel that the Didact was defeated very anti-climatically. Even if it had been a cutscene and not a button-press event, it still would come off as a bit lame).

However, I still am critical about Forerunners being brought back. The Prometheans were interesting at first, but quickly became annoying and frustrating (I started the campaign on Heroic right from the start, which I normally don’t do). The Didact was handled poorly, with no character development for those of us who couldn’t watch the Terminal videos or didn’t read the books yet (I read the trilogy after being nearly done with the game). He came off as a cliche monologuing “big baddy” who was all talk and no substance on-screen (ok, he did use the Composer on the station and New Phoenix, but the rest of the game he may as well have been non-existent). Also, I wasn’t interested in any of the new Spartans, and didn’t get what the big deal about the Infinity even was (and still don’t. It looks like they did practically nothing in Halo 5).

So those are the pros and cons of it, but the pros far outweigh the cons. But it sure makes Halo 5’s story seem like a travesty.

Seconded on the Prometheans. Between teleportation, flying away and stealing your grenades they’re very annoying to fight, and as emotionless robots there’s pretty much no satisfaction after finally killing them. Hell, “Composer” is my favorite level simply because there were no Prometheans and lots of shotguns.
Story wise, trying to get back to Earth in time to save Cortana while at the same time trying to fight the Didact with Cortana malfunctioning gave it some really good tension. Overall I did like the story, I just wish I didn’t have to fight so many Prometheans to get through it.

I remember when I first encountered on I was so confused lol then I started fighting them and I wasn’t confused anymore just really pissed off

Oh yeah… I can get my -Yoink- kicked by the covenant or the flood all day long and it doesn’t bother me, I just work out new strategies. But the prometheans… that’s when I rage quit. Lmao

At the end of the final level, when you are going from platform to platform to insert Cortana into each pedestal, I simply ended up making sure I had a Scattershot on me and, if there were no Watchers or Crawlers around, ran right up to any Knight I found and fired on them twice, killing them before they could get the chance to pull any of their annoying tactics on me. And this was on Heroic, when normally I’d be more wary of rushing up to a powerful enemy. But by that point I was sick of them and decided it was better to kill them off as soon as possible as fast as possible. Well, it worked! Watchers and Crawlers I took care of with the Light Rifle from a distance. So that was the extent of the tactics I used on Prometheans. Scattershot + Light Rifle.

It took me so long to do this because of course I didn’t have a Scattershot lol and Knights would do that stupid teleport thing which drives me bananas

That’s why this tactic works best when you are in a smaller area, so they don’t have far to teleport. I essentially just sprinted right up to them (yeah, the only time that sprint in Halo has actually been a viable tactic for me) and fired twice, then turned to the next Knight and shot off quickly. It was one of the most satisfying moments for me, especially considering it was the end of the last level.

I might have to try that next time I play the game. I stopped playing a couple days ago when I was on that level because they were annoying me so much.

I loved it. The ending left me shocked, though.

I really like it. It really expand more on the story

Promethean start was something incredible a new enemy in the saga the didacta … several unknowns was what I leave this game hopefully with the upcoming releases are resolved … good game.
