I have read both Greg’s novels. However I am confused of how the Didact is the ancient evil?
When Bornstellar released the Didact from his cryptum and embarked on their journey the Didact subsaquently died, and then Bornstellar became the Didact and was banging the librarian. Was it not the original Didact who was against the Halo Rings and wanted to stop the Master Builder? Wasn’t he reluctant to completely destroy the ancient humans when he was leading the Forunner armada?
So basically im asking…
When did the Didact become so anti-human or was he always?
Is that Bornstellar in Halo 4?
Am I missing any other key details?
Wasnt the Master Builder more ‘evil’?

He became Anti-Human during the Human Forerunner war.All of his sons were killed.
That isnt Bornstellar Didact. Its Ur-Didact, The original
Was the Master Builder more “evil” idk anymore lmfao. He is a **** tho.
I seem a bit confused as well. Wasn’t the didact left on some flood infested planet by the builder? and that’s why he looks so messed up in halo 4? (mutated)
This is what I thought. The Master Builder had contempt for any species he thought was below the forerunners. In fact he used one of the Halo rings on the home wolrd of the San Shyuum (prophets) to more or less show them who was boss.
I was expecting the “ancient evil” to be the Master Builder. I know he was set to be executed for his crimes, but the execution never took place due to the threat of the Flood. Did 343 make a boo-boo with the story line? They said themselves that ALL the books for the Halo franchise were canon to the Halo universe.

He looks that way because he tried to become immune to the Flood,I dont rmemebr which Terminal video that was.
This question is why I’m so eager for the last Forerunner book. There are theories, but nothing is certain.
Indeed, nothing is concrete beyond that we know we met the Ur-Didact (original) in Halo 4. It is assumed he escaped or got help off of his flood-infested death sentence.
Ur-Didact has always been Anti-human, ever since the Human-Forerunner War. It is the Bornstellar-Didact who is more open to humanity.
If you watch the Halo 4 terminals, it should help clear up whatever’s confusing you in the books. Some people are more receptive to visual cues than to the long, intensive readings that Greg Bear provides.
Halo 4 does a poor job at providing context for the Didact’s behavior. In Cryptum, the Ur-Didact was no fan of humanity, but the fact he placed his first Cryptum on Earth and didn’t outright kill Chakas and Riser, the humans who accompanied, is telling. He even felt pity for what they had become as a species and felt a pang of guilt.
I assume what ever happened to him in Silentium will change him, but frankly it is unacceptable for a book that comes out in March to properly explain why the villain in a game that came out in November is the bad guy.
The story jumped into terms that if no one had read the books, wouldn’t understand. Cortana starts talking about the Didact as if John already knew who and what he was, I guess thats why they made the terminals for a bit of back story on him.
So the anwsers are:
The evil is Ur-Didact from Halo: Cryptum.
Master Builder’s status is unknown.
We saw the Librarion or was that a AI of her image? If the Ur-Didact was alive, I’m thinking Bornsetller is alive? Then who locked Ur-Didact back into his cryptum? I guess the next Forunner Sega novel will explain.
