I just wanted to express my concern and see what everyone thinks about the new “Storm Jackals”. The reason I’m concerned about this is because (even though they look badass and scary and I like the way 343 have designed them) they are so different to previous Jackals and even the Skirmishers. Every time Bungie made a change, be it a new weapon, alien species, character, armour design, they would come up with a very good reason for it that would fit in with the whole story and Universe of Halo. These new Storm Jackals however, seem to just have that redesigned look because “343 wanted to make it they’re own game”. Sure, that’s all well and good, but that kinda doesn’t cut it. There needs to be a better explanation as to why they look so different. Something like its a new species (been done before). I’m going to buy, play and very much enjoy Halo 4 because I’m a Halo fanboy, but if 343 doesn’t come up with a good reason for the new Storm Jackals, there will always be that nagging thought at the back of my head that might distract from the whole experience.
I totally get what your saying, but from the looks of it,343 are very story driven and will pay attention to detail,so I think we’ll have our reasons for everything.
343i is changing a lot of things without reasons. The Chief, for example.
Saw the new Storm Jackal today (I’m assuming that’s the one that has a sharkish look right?)
-Yoink!- DEY UGLEH.
They look cool, but a little too fish-like, Jackals should look avian. So I think it’s a little inconsistent looking but not bad, could be better.
I just don’t understand why many people want an explanation for every difference 343i has made.
Here’s your explanation: They took too many steroids
> 343i is changing a lot of things without reasons. The Chief, for example.
We were supplied with a reason for that one, which was his armor was upgraded via nanobots during cryosleep. It wasn’t exactly the strongest reason, and their more real-world reason was because they wanted to take on a different artistic interpretation of the Halo universe.
I’m fairly certain we’ll get a reason for their different appearance. Everything up to this point has been somewhat-subtle changes, but the Jackal changed so drastically that it would be pretty disturbing if they didn’t explain why they look so different. From a universal standpoint there could be hundreds of reasons as to why they’ve changed. I can’t see them changing it and leaving it at that.
Perhaps they are all part of an offshoot population of Kig-Yar that came from a different environment than normal Jackals, so their biology had been changed over the generations. This population formed to make a mercenary group, and were hired by this Covenant splinter faction.
Although, with these odd Unggoy as well, it almost seems as if something has been de-evolving them. Odd.
its a standard kig-yar and storm probably refers to the religiously based insurgent group that its part of

That’s actually a very interesting thought. I could see that being a viable part of the story. It wouldn’t be a stretch, given the history of the Halo universe outside of the games. Maybe this faction of covies got ahold of Forerunner technology that reverts species to a younger state, or even a different state.
> I just don’t understand why many people want an explanation for every difference 343i has made.
Its because Chiefs armour was upgraded while he slept with nanobots. Not 100% solid, but still viable.

Well, didn’t the Forerunner’s devolve the ancient huma-

I think its the same Unggoy but just different breathing masks and tanks. But still, this is a very interesting thought. Forrunners de-evolved species all the time if they pissed them off. Perhaps the Covenant species are slowly being de-evolved by the Didact?
It’s 4 years between games. There is a lot of story that is unfilled within that time frame.
Why are their necks on steroids lol?

Idk, to support their huge jaw muscles I guess,
I like the new Jackals so much I wish all previous Halo products were retconned to include them.
I understand peoples reaction to the new look but you know, it’s in and there’s nothing we can do but play the game. I certainly wouldn’t expect a change back to the old Bungie Jackal look in Halo 5 and 6.
Fish Pirates from One Piece in Halo?
Well, the design sure seemed more “brute” then jackal, but they might look better in movement not to mention, their new AI/behaviour might make such design more practical. Less jump and hide, more assault and bite?! ^^
