Sprint in Halo Reach was kinda cool, but not properly implemented for a Halo game. This idea, has much more options than just moving faster foward, so keep reading.
To understand how this idea will work, you must understand what kind of game mechanics we need in Halo 4:
Halo 3s moving speed (was a little bit more than in Reach) and mechanic (moving acceleration).
Melee bleedthrough to stop double pummelers from getting cheap kills.
Less floaty jumps than Halo 3, but same height.
Sprint 2.0
The LB for Default or the X for BJ are the buttoms to be used to activate the speed boost. You don’t need to hold it when you press it, so you can release it and choose the direction you want to sprint (25% speed boost), this function is activated when using the speed boost option while moving foward. While standing still, you can activate it, but if you’re in a 1 vs 1 firefight, then the speed boost gives you a 10% speed boost and removes moving acceleration while moving left/righ, meanig that you go to max speed straight away. This will be used to make strafes like those in Halo CE/2. Also if you wish, you can do the same thing while going backwards (and still shoot), and gain 10% speed boost without the acceleration, to counter noobs sprint wilt CQ weapons. You must remember to save your speed boost energy only when you need it!

It seems extrememly over complicated when you could just fix the problem by increasing overall movement speed and jump height to what it was back in H3. We dont “need” AA just because they were in Reach doesnt mean that they belong in Halo. I personally hope that in no way shape, form, or version of sprint or any other armor ability for that matter appears in Halo 4. IMHO
I am an anti-sprint type of guy but the idea you imposed might make me OK with sprint…
I like how if you shoot someone it makes their sprint decrease to 10% so its harder for them to get away, and also doesn’t make CQC weapons overpowered, and hopefully the sword block will be permanently removed, the shotgun will gain more range, and the gravity hammer doesn’t have to be accelerated (If you guys didn’t notice, in Reach it takes your spartan a little bit longer for the gravity hammer to actually blow your enemy to shreds than it did in Halo 3, in halo 3 the lunge and BOOM were nearly instant.
One of the things that made Sprint balanced and not overpowered was the fact that it could only be used in the forward direction.
Allowing accelerated strafes would hinder gameplay more than it would help in my opinion.
When someone is Sprinting at you, you should not be able to back away quickly. You can either turn and run, giving up your view of the enemy and exposing your back, or you can face him and fight while navigating backward and side to side.
I thought about Sprint 2.0 being regular Sprint if you press LB and forward but being Evade if you press LB and back, left or right. What turned me away from that idea is that players would be able to move away from engagements just as easily as they could move towards them. Moving towards engagements should be encouraged and moving away should be discouraged.
I think the movement speed and strafe speed could be increased but i think a “turbo strafe” is not good. When you jump players expect you to suddenly shoot in to the air. When you strafe it should be more of a smooth motion rather than a sudden jerk left or right.
Why not make it so that Spartans could run the 50-something kilometers per-hour they did in the book, so that you could, y’know, sprint up to a vehicle and jack that?
I like your idea. But i would just prefer instead of reducing the sprint to 10% while your opposition flees a firefight too nothing. All the non-sprinting player should have to do is just shoot the sprinters leg and stop the sprint completly. This would be great as it would discourage fleeing if the non-sprinter is a good shot and wouldn’t slow gameplay at all. Instead make it faster and encourages players only to get to the action with sprint not run away from it.
I think Sprint works great in Reach and in Halo 4 it should stay the same, just last longer. You’re a super soldier. I’m pretty sure Master Chief and other Spartans can run fast for a very long time even with the suit on.

This. There is no need for sprint when you think about it this way.

Sprint needs to go for every future Halo. The BIue Bomber is right.
I support both sprint and evade. They evolve the game play and make your spartan…more like a spartan. Just like how hyjacking and dual wielding forever changed halo for the better.

No offence, but this is the only post I disagree with.
I’m fine with people saying that they don’t want sprint, but NOT improving a feature to increase the skill gap of the game is a good reason to leave it out.

Hijacking, yes. Dual wielding, no. It created a Sandbox littered with half weapons and, when starting weapons were dual wield, rendered grenade and melee gameplay non-existent.
OT:
Sprint could be left out simply by increasing the movement speed. An increase in movement speed means you’re able to get into and out of cover quickly, as well as (if start-up speed is faster than Reach) allow you to strafe effectively. This means making weapons inaccurate, like the default DMR, would be pointless as the skillgap would come from your ability to outplay your opponent rather than out retreat them.

its not about canon its about what makes the game more balanced so it can be more fun for everyone!
I personally would rather have it removed completely, but thats not gonna happen sadly

It should be changed to something like wired reflexes in Shadowrun. A quick burst of speed, without a sprint animation. This would be less intrusive to the flow of Halo than the current sprint function is.
