I was playing through the campaign on splitscreen and it had a lot of performance problems. This playthrough was on Xbox One. The most notable was texture pop-in and draw distance, which were pretty bad. I would estimate about 300 yards away relative to the Spartan would either have missing terrain or very low quality assets. Then the other issue is the distance you can see enemies is significantly reduced. Pretty much if you are zooming in and once the reticle stops registering enemies they disappear and have to be estimated to target or by moving closer. I didn’t have the chance to play it on the 360 splitscreen so I am not sure if this is an old or recurring issue. In my opinion Halo 4 is a beautiful game, especially the open natural environments, but that is a bit lost if not on a solo screen. Is this an issue others are having? Perhaps this is why they cancelled the splitscreen on Halo 5, because they could not optimize it or did not want to put in the extra work before launch. Hope it is in Halo 6 though.
