Halo 4 Spectator Mode as an Add-on?

I know 343 has stated that it might not happen that we can get spectator mode when the game comes out, but what if 343 were to make a spectator mode a month after the game came out as an add-on for free? Or maybe just an update?

With spectator mode this would help tournament organizers to stream matches for Halo 4 and have a profit from doing so. So if organizers get money from doing H4 in tournaments then we could have H4 in big events and giving the game a lot more exposure and even more sales in the long run to people who watch eSports!

Probably not going to happen.

Which is sad, because pretty much every other major game has it in some form.

Halo 4 is casual city and the casual kids/sheep are seriously under the delusion that spectator mode is a “bandwidth hog” when 343 knows perfectly well that competitive players want spectator mode for LAN. Unless, of course, 343 actually doesn’t realize this, which just indicates that they have absolutely no support for competitive Halo.

Support!

If 343i is speaking to MLG as they have been since before E3, then I have to imagine at some point the subject was broached about how to get the game back on the circuit and better than ever. In those discussions, if either party never bothered to mention a spec mode in Halo 4 to be able to cut down costs and maximize profits for MLG, to entice better sponsorships that won’t have to contribute nearly as much money, and to get more $$$ into the prize pool, than neither company is doing what they should be doing.

I believe that even Halo Reach, with all its pre-TU/pre-ZB flaws, is more competitively viable and more importantly, entertaining than COD can ever be. I can understand if 343i honestly didn’t think about this at first (this is, after all, their first real effort at making a game and they have some mighty big shoes to fill), so I can also understand if there isn’t gonna be a spectator mode of some type available at launch. But if 343i really wants this to work with MLG, and also to help the overall Halo community with new content, not just the competitive players, they HAVE to make this a patch or other add-on. There’s really no way around it if they want Halo 4 to achieve long-term success on all levels.

That being said, we still need to support the hell out of Halo 4 regardless.

Yeah I have no idea why we have to fight for it, this is something that should obviously be in the game.

Gears, BO2, SC2, etc ALL have spectator mode now

And Halo had more time than BO2 yet they are supporting eSports completely. Streaming with no equipment, spectator mode, scoreboards, etc.

They did all that in less time than 343 has

A decently organized event will have no trouble with setting up the TV’s/monitors through a setup that allows the techies to switch between screens on the fly, thus your point is moot when it comes to “OMG OMG OMG HALO 4 NEEDS LAN SPECTATING!!!1!111one”.

Also, streaming videos on the net. Easy stuff.

Setting up a streaming LAN with 8 POVs, 2 main screens, and 4 for the commentators costs well over 10000 dollars

As I stated “well organized”. A decent event would be able to cover the costs, much like a TV show would be able to.

Also you’re overestimating, lol. Stop being overly dramatic okay? XD

I think anything that will put more lag into thegame is a bad idea. Well anything short of an actual innovation

Why would we ever want to limit the amount of people capable of hosting an event?

That’s a terrible idea.

Can’t believe CoD has it and not Halo (as of yet).

Halo is going to fall off the MLG radar even farther…

I don’t want to limit anyone. So long as you have the funding and the know how, a gaming event with multiple players will be a cinch.

Also livestreaming on the internet. Mostly free stuff there.

Well GoW3 Spectator mode came in some months after the release, so it may be possible.

All those games have dedicated servers. Halo 4 does not

With the popularity and the history of how competitive Halo is on and off LAN I think it should have AT LEAST dedicated servers for ranked playlists and spectator mode for customs games. You can still get around it like MLG does for their LANs but for smaller LANs and simply reduced costs should include a spectator mode.
